Go ahead and tell us a little bit about yourself! Let's get to know each other a little better. :)

Civ-wise, I'm a fairly experienced player. I can quite happily win on Immortal in single player - I haven't had the time to play Deity yet but will get around to it sometime. As for multiplayer, I have about 4 years and probably well over 200 games of experience. (I lost count a long time ago.) Probably at least half the games have been duels with other highly competent players (of which I've won perhaps 80%); I've also played in a lot of large-scale pitboss games with up to 18 players (where I've frequently ended up on the winning alliance if not winning outright), as well as playing weekly blitz games with a close group of friends (amongst them TheMeInTeam, DanQ, canucksoldier and AlphaShard)... I've won at least 90% of those weekly blitz games. I'm also currently playing in a knockout duel tournament between 32 players on the German civ site (I'm doing okay so far), and playing for Team EVG in the Intersite Democracy Game.

Real life-wise, I'm a student at university in New Zealand, studying towards a PhD in laser physics. I live with my girlfriend, who is studying mechanical engineering, and who I managed to get addicted to Civ - so we have quite a few Hotseat and LAN games between ourselves. It's great fun, not to mention convenient. :D

OK.

Civ, I've been playing civ4 on and off since it was released, plus playing civ 3 for a couple of years before that. I can consistently win on Monarch, and if I'm paying attention I can also do win consistently on Emperor. I've consistently played pitboss games since whichever patch introduced it. I played ladder games for a few months, and it was too time consuming for me to maintain, especially as I've been playing counter strike source competitively for around the same time.

Hi everyone. Great to be on board :)

Civ: I got introduced to civ3 about a month before civ4 was released and that month was enough for me to pickup a copy of civ4 on release day. I have played in a 1 month on, 5 months off cycle for years and was never very good at the game. Towards the end of last year I was still hopeless at the game and had a 50/50 record on Noble. However, in my longest ever streak of playing the game (3 months and counting) I have improved my game to win most games on Monarch after jumping up from Noble (can't lose a game on Noble now and skipped Prince). I'm still learning amazing amounts on the game and hope to at least win 1 game on Immortal by the time civ5 is released. My only Multiplayer experience is against 2 mates that play at about Noble level so they are not much to base off as I usually toy with them until I wipe them clean with Nukes for fun. Its still fun to do it even though I have done it before.

Real life: I work for an Architect after finishing my university degree 2 years ago. Unlike Lord Parkin, my fiancée hates civ as it consumes too much of my time. However, my job is pretty relaxed meaning you will find me lurking around here most of the time I'm at work as well as when I sneak on at home :P

Looking forward to the fun ahead :)

Oh, forgot to post real life stuff.

I'm currently doing an undergrad stats degree, first year, at RMIT. I am currently single and unemployed. I play cricket during the summer and hibernate during winter :p

Civ-Well I was first introduced to civ through a free demo of civ 4 and have been playing since then. I play at either prince or monarch, depending on the leader, and have only minimal previous pitboss and multiplayer experience, being more of a casual player :). Also it is good to see another CSS player here :)

Real life- I live in London and I am sitting my GCSEs this summer, I aim to study maths at Cambridge when the time comes around :)

I have played civ since the first incarnation. With Civ IV I have gotten up to Noble level but will enjoy playing this game against the other teams.

Hi, people.

I play Civ since the begin, 1991 I think. Usually I play single game at Emperor/Immortal.
I also play PBEM, democracy games and non-simultaneous Pitboss. And some games,
all defeats, in the ladder, too. Honestly, the builder part of the game I fear not, but the
warmonger it's different. And an harsh simultaneous timer kills me, even at single.

Real life wise, I'm an old, retired man, living in Lisbon, Portugal.

RMIT Melbourne? I don't know how many places in the world use that acronym. If so, let the Melbournian domination begin :P

Civ: My wife gave me Civ3 for Christmas a couple months before I joined CFC and I haven't been the same since. I'm far from a good player, in large part because I don't like to whip and chop, but also because I prefer playing turns fast over micromanagement. In MP I consistently get smacked around by many of the people playing the MTDG. Our own Lord Parkin has several wins in games I've played in. My small consolation is that I sometimes take someone else out first, so am rarely the 1st victim. ;) As for demogame experience, I first joined the 3rd CFC demogame for Civ3 and have been in just about everything since, other than the inter-site team demogames which I'm admin for. I've also played in Apolyton demogames.

In RL I'm an elite software engineer for a large global company, trying to get a promotion to scientific great leader. :D I'm married with two kids, ages 9 and 6.

Hi all.

Civ: I've played a lot of Alpha-Centauri single player (I get quite upset if I don't win), and a lot of Civ IV single player, not so much of any of the others. I usually win on immortal but I'm sometimes get a bit lax on the defensive units and get bitten. The closest thing I have to any multiplayer experience consists of a 7-player game against myself (where I controlled all seven civs), a bit self indulgent but surprisingly fun.

In general, I enjoy a good forum debate and look forward to being part of a team.

In real life, I'm 29, work in "image processing research", have a wife and a little baby girl (11 months), and mostly just wish I had more time for all the fun things I like to do.

How did you manage to make that work? Obviously you'd know in advance when you were planning to attack yourself, so you could prepare to defend yourself - and prepare the nations around you to backstab yourself and join in on the war. :crazyeye: Seems a bit crazy, I'm not sure I could manage it. (Unless it was Always Peace, then I wouldn't have the "advanced military knowledge" issue... although I'd still know what wonders I was attempting to build with other civs, which might influence my build choices. ;) )

When your only sibling is 12 years older and like a third parent, you get good at playing games with yourself :)

The diplomatic element was a bit awkward I admit though. Basically I had in my head what each civ was planning, and just did my best to think about it without accounting for what I knew the other civs were doing. I don't actually find it difficult to do, possibly because I'm very think in a very rational rather than emotional way, and I'm relatively good at seeing things from different perspectives. It's only an approximation of diplomacy, but it worked well enough (subject to my own general failings in defensive military anyway).

I plan to do a writeup of it at some point, hopefully it's interesting.

Cool. You could call the thread "Irgy Plays With Himself".

But seriously, I'd be interested to read it if you do write it up. :)

Hi. I've been playing since civ2 came out. I can semi-consistently win on emperor. I have no experience with multiplayer, except for a one drunk hotseat night in college on civ2 :)

In real life a traindriver in Belgium.

Hey all. Been stuck on this Civilization thing on and off since Civ2. Really got hooked with Civ 3 and eventually had to take a hiatus... which I'm now coming back from. I've got no experience with multiplayer but I'm solidly an Emperor-level player. Come a long way since the days of barely beating prince in Civ3 :D

In real life I supervise a call center to pay the bills but I really love writing & running (and playing civ).

I've been playing Civ4 a little over a year now when not distracted by school or work or various console games. My brother introduced me to Civ1 but I was too young to fully appreciate the game and I'm glad I've rediscovered it. I'm winning consistently at Prince in single player and this will be my first foray into multiplayer. Safe to say I have the least experience of the group to post so far but I'm eager to learn.

I'm a recently graduated Electrical Engineer in Saskatchewan, Canada.

I started playing Civ when it was just Civ. I'm not that good of a player, though I used to be able to beat Monarch without any problem. I say used to, since I haven't played Civ since summer of last year. I haven't been able to get Civ 4 to run correctly on my Mac. I've tried Parallels and Bootcamp, but apparently I'm doing something wrong. Granted, since I really don't like using Windows on this computer, I haven't really tried that hard.

I've played some demogames, but I tend to lose interest when all the infighting starts. I'm not that active, hence the reason I chose this team. I hope you all don't mind.

I'm married with a daughter who will be three next month.

Not at all, we're glad to have everyone who wants to join, regardless of how active or not they're able to be. :)

I copy/paste from our public thread:

I, for me i'm active on the SGotM, and (but not much now) in the HoF (where Methos contributes the most FWIK).
I like Mods like FfH2 and LoR and in those months i'm playing more those solo games than regular BtS.

As you can see i'm from Italy, so i hope you will forgive my poor english.

My interests outside CIV are mainly music (i play keyboards and guitars) and computers. At present my favourite band is Rhapsody, but of course all of the historical Rock Bands and artists, Hard, Progressive and almost any variation.
