City nomenclature?

I saw that in the previous demogame team Saturn named their cities after its moons.
Are we going to do something similar here?

Would be a bit hard to think of what, as there are only a handful of named stars in its constellation, and it doesn't directly relate to a mythological deity.

Well, if we're team Sirius we could follow that theme and name our team after stars.

For example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_brightest_stars
Sounds great, thanks for the link. So I guess our first 10 city names would logically be:

Sirius
Canopus
Arcturus
Alpha Centauri A (or just Alpha Centauri)
Vega
Rigel
Procyon
Achernar
Betelgeuse
Beta Centauri

Of course, we can decide to change them at any time for any reason. :)

Betelgeuse is my personal favorite  Love the star name idea

Betelgeuse is indeed awesome. Ideally that city should be founded somewhere with a lot of food, so it can grow extremely large. :)

I vote for this as well with a resounding yes yes yes. :scan:

I'm neutral on this, with a slight preference to let the default names, unless we don't play with Civs like Khmer, with impossible names.

Default names are so much less cool, though. :p

For we shall be unique amongst the stars.

Some random ideas:

-Canis Majoris for our biggest city (largest known star)
-Gliese (581) for our cottage city (star with most known exoplanets-4)
-Lucy/BPM37093 (Lucy is the nickname) for our gold city, it's a diamond star (one huge diamond)
-Nemesis (doesn't really exist probably) for our main troop production city. It was postulated to explain mass extinction events on earth.
-Cygnus (OB2-12) for our science city, it's the most luminous star :)

As thematic and nice as those suggestions are, does it run the risk of letting particularly clever opponents know what our plans are (or at least were originally) for the cities? One advantage of just going in order of distance is that it doesn't give much away. Not that I actually think it's a big deal.

Either way I like the idea of star names.

I agree that we don't want to risk informing smart opponents about our city structures, so I think that the names should be arbitrary and not linked to a particular city. I'd be open to naming cities specifically for the purpose of disinformation, though. For instance, renaming cities close to a secret ally with war-like names (with the ally's knowledge), and then striking out of the blue at our rival on another border. ;)
