While this screenshot is actually a horrible representation of what this LH looks like, I think you should probably consider adding Guilliaume Henri Dufour...

lhdufour_q4b.gif

Obviously it is your call, here is an artists depiction of him...

Guillaume-Henri_Dufour_(Irminger).png

Do what you want, just a suggestion.

The problem is, he was the napoleanic leader of the Hellvetic Republic... this civ is from before that period... high middle ages/renaissance...

He is a good leaderhead though!

Manifold suggested William Tell as the leader, but from all I now, he was just a legend like Paul Bunyon, so I opted for the "Diet" or "Tagsatzung"... based on Frederick's personality traits, but with some obvious changes of course.

you know my suggestion for the leader of the Old Swiss Confederacy. i guess there is only one outstanding famous name: William Tell

:goodjob:

Yes... isn't William Tell just a legend though. I couldn't find anything that said otherwise. Do you have something from the German language histories that might shed some truth to this?
I want to stay away from fictional characters.

he is at least such authentic like all the other leaders i never meet personally. where do you read that he is just a fictional character (wikipedia)?

but if you dont like him, you could take Arnold Winkelried, his existence is indisputable. his story seams literary decorated, the same with William Tell.

I'm not sure at all that Tell wasn't fictional.
He is exactly at the same, semi-fictional level for me as Robin Hood

On the other hand, some of the other vanilla leaders and custom LHs used in most modpacks are semi-fictional too
Gilgamesh, Ragnar or Harald (I always confuse the two :)), David, Solomon just to mention a few
Overally I'm still against adding characters like Robin Hood and William Tell though...

@Absinthe... yes, there were some semi-fictional leaders, or at least exaggerated leaders... Gilgamesh, I will give historians a break on this one due to time that has passed... Ragnar, well, there has been a lot of Ragnar hate, and I agree with it.

@manifold...

That is why I was asking if you have better sources than are more sure of his existence. I want to keep my mods as realistic as possible.
As for Arnold von Winkelried, he looks more interesting. I will have to research him some and possibly request a leaderhead for him and update this.

in that case, you had to rename the UU also. The weapon of the Swiss mercenaries was the Pike not the Hellebarde. Good name could be Pike square (Gewalthaufen) or Swiss mercenaries (Reisläufer).

in the term of the LH i prefer any leader instead of no leader.

The Diet were leaders, just more than one head.
I definitely want to stay away from fictional characters...

As for the UU, I will do some research.
Weren't the "Gewalthaufen" just one section of a formation?

William Tell is such fictional then not fictonal... next try: Johann Rudolf Wettstein

Hellebardier is just nothing special for the swiss. the swiss guard use them in a decorative way.

Yes, but I didn't want it to be the "Swiss Swiss Pikeman", or just the "Swiss Pikemen"...
The use of the halberd was just taken from a previous Switzerland mod, and does need to be changed.

I may go with the mercanary name you mentioned though... it just doesn't feel right to call them mercs when used in a national army for CIV though... you know what I mean?

LH: also the swiss needs some authorised person, when they beg me for peace:)

UU: the correct therms are Reislaeufer and Gewalthaufen. i dont now the translation in english.

This one "Gewalthaufen" - it means - center square of their formations...
and Reisläufer means simply - mercenary

so what? ever noticed the other UU: Phalanx, Landsknecht, Praetorians (in civ 1-3 Legion), Keshik,...

Gewalthaufen means "violence crowd"
Reisläufer means "war-journey runner"

Well, in that case, what is the problem with hellebardier (other than using French  )? It's pretty close to being in the category that the name Praet is in... specialized soldiers that really excelled in this format (some would even argue the Praets were weak and spoiled soldiers compared to the rest of the legions out there fighting hard).

maybe the problem is
praetorians are unique for rom
hellebardier are not unique for swiss

besides Gewalthaufen sounds swiss and cool, or?

Gewalthaufen sounds German... not Swiss...
I am going to call it some name in Italiano!

Anyhow, while the Praets were unique to Rome, the Swiss had the best halberdiers.
I just really don't have any better option at this point... the best option being Swiss Pikemen, but that's already done by the game...

Perhaps I should just make it say "pikeman". If you are playing with the Swiss or against them, you have DLed the mod, and you know what the UU is... the pikemen.
I think I will tone down the strength a little too... I want them to be able to beat the landsknecht is a prime consideration. I am going to work on the UU stats once I figure out exactly how it works.

:confused:you talk about the "old swiss confederacy", right?
