Welcome to Dr kossin #31.

Dr is an acronym for Daily Round. Yes, I mean to get in an update every day to the games I will be playing. Of course there might be some days where I can only play a little or not at all, but I will make up for it those other days when I do have extra time on my hands.

Since the 21st edition of this series, the difficulty level has been cranked all the way up to Deity. I'm not at the point where I can win every game thrown at me on Deity level... I probably can't even win every game thrown at me on Immortal but it is getting a bit boring. My goal is now to achieve competitive skills on this level which should hopefully help me improve more.

You, the reader, can help me achieve this goal by pointing out where I got astray, give suggestions on how to proceed, use complex abstract mathematical analysis to argue, curse at me or anything that you may like. Please note that you must respect the Terms of Service of CFC in any case :)

You may shadow this game and post it here if you please, but I kindly request that you put it in spoiler tags and that anyone reading the report abstain from using information found there to help me out.

Should you want more clarification about something I've done, just ask for it and I will try to answer as best as I can.

Enough talk, on to the game.

A special thanks to ifinnem who provided the map.

The leader, this time, is:

Please refer to the Babylonia Civ IV wiki for more information on this leader/nation.

The start:

This start sucks. Sorry, but it does :)
I can't hang around here much today so I'm not going to write a long essay about it.
I'd consider settling SW to get the pigs in the BFC but that's about it.
Can't say whether there's much land to the SW or if this is the end of the peninsula. There should be some more north where the jungle starts.

1SW. Pigs > Dry Rice/Sugar. Plus it nets you +2 hills. It won't be stellar but atleast it'll be something.

Edit: Peeked once again, looks interesting in more ways than one.

I'd also consider NW to get the 3F starting tile (but lose fresh water), or 1W to get the bridge if you are on a large peninsula.

1SW was my first thought too, already from the start it looks it will be a tough one with not much land to settle early on.

1 SW looks correct, even with the lost turn, because of the lack of tiles higher than 4F in the current location.

This would make your highest food tile 6F instead of 4F.

However--I would still move the Warrior 1 SW to see whether there is Gold on the hill there.

I'm sure there is Copper/Iron in the the hill 2W1N. If I'm wrong, I'll pick up my Gandhi thread :)

Can you please do so anyway. It was so interesting to see a genuinely different style of play. I think a lot of people would be interested to see if the different style actually works or not.

For as long as you shy away from it, the obvious inference is that it was not going to work, which I am not sure is correct.

I played to 1 ad, this is a much tougher game than the last one imo.

Round 1

As I and a few others proposed, I sent the settler SW to get a land bridge as well as the pigs in the BFC. Rice, sugar and clams are very poor (4 when it counts) food resources.
Spoiler :

Research was started on Animal Husbandry to be able to improve the Pigs once the worker would be completed.

I decided to explore southwest early on since the warrior was already in that direction.
Spoiler :

Meeting Hatty on t6 however lead me to think there wasn't much land in that direction so I turned him around to explore the jungle area.
Spoiler :

Ohhh... weak. So not much land, and not much actual land.

After AH I went Mining>Fishing>Sailing>Masonry>BW>Writing.

What's one to do with crappy and limited space?
Spoiler :

Yes, indeed.

Part 1 of the game is done.
Here's the known land, in a non-RESIZED screenshot.
Spoiler :

The land is fogbusted and I count 7 total cities, albeit not the best ones.
Hatty is a pretty weak leader so if we're in semi-isolation, I shouldn't have too much trouble taking her out somewhere around cannons/rifles. If not... we'll see!
Drafting, here I come!

more coast exploring ... theres still a few places where you have a chance for island hopping

Eww that's some horrible land, interesting to see if/how you pull this one out of the bag. Although hatty is quite an easy leader to take out I've found, so hopefully she has some half decent land to grab down there.

Be relying exclusively on trade routes for commerce here too.

Have you checked the espionage spending to check if there is another AI there that Hatty knows?

^ There's someone on the other side of Hatty.

Double fish city on the sugar up top will be a nice city, either to work for specialists or for Moai.

Since it looks like an archipelago map, any thought to the colossus too, with copper? Or is it even stupider at deity to go for too many wonders?

yes I have a wb looking about but I doubt this map willbe that generous.

mostly TRs yes which is why I'll put a city on the island.

apparently yes.

Yea it will be good, maybe GT city.

Colossus depends on when I can get MC vs Oracle civ most likely.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't 2W1N a coast? Did you mean 2W1S? Frankly I think (if I'm right) this means you need to pick up your ghandi thread.
