three important bits:

1.
City States are neutral regions that don't expand. Players have the choice to either establish an amicable relationship with them, which brings in steady rewards like units, money or supplies depending on the type of City State

2.
War is inevitable when talking about Civilization. Whether you're interested in setting up an economic superpower or working to send a rocket to Alpha Centauri, someone is bound to pick a fight with you

3.
We were able to confirm that the game is being developed for dual core processors with the ability to take advantage of up to eight threads, which should be welcome news for Quad Core i7 owners.

Point 2 seems like prosaic hyperbole - not confirmation of something seen in Civ V. Point 3 is interesting news indeed.

Religion, one of the biggest features introduced in Civ4, will be reworked to fit into the new gameplay style. Details on how exactly it will work are still forthcoming

I found that interesting. It seems that religion will be in the game in some form.

Well they said as much as that they did not like religion so they scratched it, and then they felt there was this huge void in diplomacy. They wanted to fill that void with another interesting system, but it was not religion.

So my twelve cores are pointless? You suck Firaxis!

you will need the other threads to play CivNet on Facebook, chat and have a couple of free threads for your work's software, since everybody here will be practically working only inbetween turns (or when the boss/wife is looking).

This stuff on religion is certainly a far cry from just a week ago when they made it sound like it was well & truly gone. Maybe espionage falls into a similar category?

Aussie.

I hope there's something of both in 5, but for the most part, the religious aspect in 4 only really wasted a few :hammers: here and there if you're not really into it. It's like you NEED the bonus of religion in the early stages. Why? Does a culture NEED a religion to flourish?

It wouldn't surprise me if while BtS-style espionage is gone, there is still some type still in the game, roughly along the lines of pre-BtS Civs.

IIRC the reason given for "scrapping" religion was the way it overshadowed diplomacy. I guess it's not too hard to imagine a scaled-back implementation of religion which has a benefit to culture, but not much effect on diplomacy.

Brilliant, an excuse to get dual-hexs so I can Play Civ I, II, III, IV and V (along with civnet and civfanatics!)
