Its about time that Scotland's strategic role in world history was regognised. At the height of the BRITISH empire not English, over one third of the ships used in the British navy were built on the River Clyde in Glasgow and Glasgow was known as "the second city of the empire"
Leader 1- William Wallace
Leader 2-Robert the Bruce
if you have any other ideas for leaders of Scotland let me know or if you have an idea for there special unit

British and English, outside of the UK are basically seen as the same civilization. I know that this is not correct, but this is the way that it is. They just use England instead of the British Empire because the British is a more modern entity and outside of using Germany and America Firaxis has tried to stay away from more contemporary countries (ie. using Rome instead of Italy)

Sorry, but outside of it appearing in a mod your Scotland debate will fall on deaf ears.

Actually "Britain" is a far older term than "England". Pytheas the Greek travelled to the British Isles sometime around 325 BC and names the people there the "Pryttani". The Romans pronounced this "Brittani" and named the country "Brittania", which, Anglicized, becomes Britain.

"England", on the other hand, dates from over a thousand years later when Germanic tribes settled in Britain; one such tribe being the Angles, who gave the name "Angle-land" to the area, which eventually came to be pronounced as England.

There is an even older name than Britain though - Albion.

Time and resources that could be better spent on making other, more significant civs isn't worth wasting on Scotland. To us outsiders the only difference between Englishmen and Scots is that the latter wear Kilts at certain holidays (we think).

Scotland is already included in mods though :) Be happy with that.

Go away!!!!

Okay, mockery aside, really, saying that Scotland should be a civilization because it was part of an empire (dominated by a DIFFERENT CIVILIZATION) that was the most powerful in the world is almost like saying we ought have the Baltics in the game because several ships were produced there and the Russian empire was big. It doesn't work.

Yeah. For the periods when Scotland was internationally significant (Edinburgh as a source of many inventions for eg; Adam Smith, first Steam Engine, Glasgow as industrial center etc) Scotland was part of the British Empire, which was mostly run by England.

For the periods when Scotland was independent, it was internationally insignificant.

I love Scotland, most of my family is from there (if you go back ~4 generations), but its a pretty minor country.

It was Scotland that united Scotland and England

Exactly and many more inventions as well.

Many, many Americans are descended from Scottish immigrants and these immigrants also got America onto it's feet. America isn't really a proper nation but a mixture of hundreds of different ones. Despite this Firaxis are not going to remove it.

Uhh.... no. The Act of Union was pushed by the English parliament, against considerable opposition within Soctland.

Exactly and many more inventions as well.
Yes, but these happened *after* Scotland ceased to be an independent country, and when it was mostly ruled from London.

Scottish immigrants were a small number relative to English and German, and Irish, and later other groups like Italians.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Immigration_to_the_United_States

Try telling any American that. They have a pretty strong national identity.

There are a lot of things that Wikipedia can be wrong about, but basic non-controversial factual material isn't usually it.

Another source:
http://eh.net/encyclopedia/article/cohn.immigration.us

British migration (which is mostly English) is dominated by Irish from 1820, German from 1830, by Eastern Europe from 1880 and by southern europe (mostly Italy) from 1890s.

They're not popular enough, this game is all about making profits and generally people don't care about scotland so they ain't gonna buy it, it will probably be in some ind of mod, deal with it

this game is all about making profits

Yeah, cos that's why Songhai is in, and why we've had native americans and Zulus and Khmer. All about those sub-saharan african game sales....

The game tries to go for a mix of regional balance and important powers; Scotland fails on both counts.

Well the closest thing to Scotland you´ll get is the Celtic civilization in BTS. Else i think there mods, which include Scotland as a civilization.
