After reading all the excellent threads here, I have decided to do a story of my own. This will be using Leoreth's excellent Dawn of Civilization mod, which is based off RFC (The mod can be found at this link: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=361905).

So let's get started with letting everyone see me mess this game up !

Civ is Spain, difficulty Monarch, and I'm not planning on going for the UHV. After all, I want to show off the mod's ability to let a player handle a large colonial empire. Because of this, we will be pursuing the entire Spanish colonial empire in North and South America.

So here's the start:

I send my settlers toward Marsella, Pampalona, and Grenada and change civics:

Grenada is founded as the capitol so I can get my free workers. Pampalona is founded the next turn. I begin researching paper.

My starting units raze Marsielle and Bordeaux:

This also gets me contact with the French. In this mod, they are lead by Charlemagne in the medieval era. I found Marsella the next turn (to avoid the French flip). I play a few more turns until all my cities have Christianity and have popped their borders. I also meet the Germans, who are lead by Charles I (He's actually Charles V ingame, but in Spain, he was Charles I, so that's what we'll call him).

Here's the situation where I left off:

I promise more pictures next time. So... Comments? Questions? Suggestions? Let me hear your thoughts!

EDIT: And how do you get the pictures to show?

Thanks Cam_H- they work now!

On an unrelated note, the techs of Spain, France, and Germany are all the same (well, Germany doesn't have sailing, but they're researching it)

Nice to see a story for my modmod! Let's see if the Spanish can get their Empire where the sun never sets :)

What are to trying to achieve? Only an American colonial empire? Or also possessions in Africa and Asia? What about the Habsburg lands, Netherlands and Austria?

I will be going for an American colonial empire, though not necessarily a full one. Spain's African possessions will more likely than not be taken from France at some point. After all, the Hapsburgs did have posessions in Burgundy that we need to represent :mischief:. I may take the Phillipines eventually, but since Toku usually settles them, that could be more work than I want to do. I will not take a Far Eastern Treaty port unless China collapses or Mongolia controls it (usually synonymous). I'm taking Italy and the Netherlands (unless they're vassals by then), but Austria could be tough. I plan to take it, but last time I played Spain (I ended up winning UHV 'cause England collapsed mid-1300-1400's and France and the Netherlands vassalized to Germany, with both breaking free around the time I had a massive stack built up in case Freddy decided to get aggresive) Germany had a stack of 30-ish units, all muskets, cuirassiers, and cannons (state of the art at that point) along with a bit of assorted medieval junk sitting in Venice while he managed to take Moscow and cap Cathy (his stack never moved, just kept recieving new units) and had Louis, Willie, and Joao as vassals (the first two eventually regained autonomy, but it was scary for a while). I'm not willing to take on something like that, especially after Freddy gets rifles and UPGRADES THE ENTIRE STACK to cavalry and rifles while I'm going after Electricity so I can get extra benefits from watermills and get to radio/ Cristo ! Even a bunch of Conquistadores and super citadel-cannons can't touch that (well, they could, but all my production tiles had been taken by a little green kingdom to my west).

Well, then this is going to be interesting :king:

Since you didn't settle a city in the north-west I'm going to assume you'll conquer Lisbon pretty soon, right?

Yes, I suppose he will : if not he'll be loosing a lot of great land (adding to the unemployed silver). In fact your city location puzzles me a bit. Perhaps you wanted Marsella (which is quite understandable), but still, spots like Mercia (3W of your Pamplona), Cadiz (2W of your Granada) and Valencia cover all of the Iberian territory without flipping to the Portugese. Well, it's your game so do as you like, but can you explain these choices (especially loosing the silver) ?

Those are fine spots as well, but I always prefer these cities, though in Dawn Barcelona would probably be better 1S, since it rarely can work the horse.

I don't really think one is better than the other, though in Dawn, I could keep Lisbon and move Grenada 1E so I don't have to raze and found Oporto. My schedule is a bit full so expect an update Friday.

We left Spain a fledgling empire that had only begun to assert dominance over Western Europe.

A few turns into this round, we got a helpful event.

I took the +500 EPs. We may be able to steal a tech later.

We then met Alfred, preliminary leader of the English in this mod.

The AP decides that it wants to give Marsella to the French. I defy, but it wouldn't have had enough votes anyway.

A source of jade is discovered- welcome news for commerce-poor Spain.

Paper is finished. We begin researching Guilds for Optics and Banking.

Portugal spawns. In this mod, it's lead by Afonso Henriques early on.

We trade for Meditation and Alfy's world map.

Charlie demands horses. I agree for diplo (and because I don't want to offend our northern neighbor... yet)

Portugal founds Oporto as well. Now I have to raze two cities...

Charles I asks me to become Catholic, which is what I've been waiting for since the first round. I agree.

This is the extent of Germany. This is nothing-they usually expand into the Ukraine and kill Russia around 1500 with this mod. Also notice that France lost Brest to the Independent rebels. They will most likely collapse soon, letting us take our Burgundian possessions (and then some).

I get peace with the natives! I'm definitely taking that to help Mexico survive once I capture it.

I meet Ragnar, leader of the Vikings.

Portugal asks to become our vassal. I wasn't totally sure about what to do, but I agreed in the end (I can concentrate on settlers for my colonies instead of military to take Portugal).

We discover Guilds and begin Philosophy (for the tech trades).

Here is the extent of the empire. I didn't notice, but Brest became independent again. Maybe I should capture it?

Here are my cities:

Techs:

Diplo:

And Techs from a different view:

So? What do you think I should do next? Thoughts? Comments? Questions?

I was going to take Italy anyway, but maybe the forces I usually have in Iberia in case Portugal acts up can actually take Rome instead of killing off some half-strength defender Germany has left like usual .

Just let dead things die. Promote your own story elsewhere, not on a dead story.

I would continue this, but after I got back from my 2-week hiatus, I forgot I had this story running on 1.1 and upgraded to 1.3. I might make another story but version 1.4 (the so-called "final version") is supposed to be posted fairly soon.
