If 2k were to release two different versions of Civ5 one steampowered and the other
non-steampowered which would you buy?

Dude...

Thread made of fail. Given the outcry, what do you expect this poll will show? I think I would go with the steam version because I buy most my games over steam anyway. I expect to see the vast majority of gamers will disagree with me.

If I had to chose between having my self tortured beyond the limit of human endurance for all eternity or allowing steam on my PC for even a nanosecond I would chose the torture.

When someone whips you even once I think you bend like a wuss and say NOOO!!! I pick steam!!! :mischief:

And still, if that was the poll, we wouldn't know whether you'd chosen the torture if you had the choice between torture and nothing either :)

Btw, what does "Steam free version" mean in this poll? One with no DRM at all? One with neither DRM nor online functionality? One with SecuROM?

I chose the Steamworks version, because I appreciate online functionality in my games. Remembering Civ4, it is likely to be less buggy if they use Steamworks.

I was always going to buy the game over Steam.

Wouldn't be too fussed about the Steamworks integration though if it wasn't for the fact that it means we get to play it sooner.

I will only buy a non-Steam version with no online activation required for installation.

I don't care if there are other versions for people who want Steam. They should be able to have those, too, but I'm only buying non-Steam or nothing. Steam isn't right for me. If it's exclusively Steam, I will not buy.

And please, don't insult my intelligence with that weary false dichotomy - Steam or Securom. It's not as if there are only the two choices. Lots of games manage just fine without Steam or Securom. There are still many games without either.
