With his wife of 40 years. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/01/al-tipper-gore-break-years-marriage/?test=latestnews

A quip:

In the 2000 campaign interview, Tipper acknowledge Al had his faults. He once gave her a Weedeater for her birthday, but he learned to be more sensitive over the years, she said.

"He's very much a gentleman you know, with me around the house," Tipper said. "I know he's dog tired and he could be sitting down and doing something and I need something across the room, he'll get up and get it."

Apparently, he stopped getting up to get her what she needed. Or at least a weedeater every now and then.

But seriously, this does shock me. I mean who gets divorced after 40 years of marriage? Unless, there has been an affair or something along those lines to cause it? Now, I know that discreet friends mention there hasnt been any affair, but isnt that the kind of line we would expect to be given in this situation?

As for me, I am actually saddened by this. I really wish they could work it out and stay together. I would hate for my image of them smooching it up during the campaign be tarnished by this latest development.

One would think that a couple be able to work just about anything out after 40 years of marriage. Wouldnt you?

My parents have been married for 28 years, but I suspect they might divorce when my father retires and stops commuting. Nowadays he lives in an another apartment 4 days a week.

No one's business but their own...

As Ziggy said: people grow apart. Happens every day

And MobBoss wins the award for "misleading thread title" for today...;)

Al Gore is now contributing to global warming.

What the hell Mobby? Pulling the old "No one is saying that had an affair but it makes you wonder hmmm?", implying they did?

There are two people who know why they are divorcing. People divorce after 1 day, 1 year, 1 decade, or 30 years of marriage. It happens. No need in insinuate

Didn't Reagan get divorced too before marrying Nancy?

I never did like Tipper. She would have been the worst part of the deal had Al beater George.

My god, it's pathetic.

The desperate clutching at straws badly disguised as a concerned citizen's thoughs, that is.

Considering that Al is a famous and powerful guy I'm sure he has opportunities to stray if he chooses to do so. It's relatively common for successful men to appreciate as much of the fruits of their labour as they can (even if the fruit is forbidden). :king:

It is uncommon for it to be publicly known however. :mischief:

Anyways, yes, it is a bit strange that they are divorcing now. They even started dating after Al's prom, so they've actually been together for 45 years.

Tipper is 61, it's not like she can expect to find anyone new. Still, she's from a divorced family herself, so that does increase the chances of divorce.

I could speculate that Al has found someone new, but most men in his position want to maintain their reputation by keeping their marriage intact.

[...] the Gores said it was "a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration."
Mutual and mutually supportive decision? Let's wait for the divorce hearings...

My money's on Al having one or more on the side throughout their marriage and his wife finally didn't want to accept it anymore.

I doubt either one had an affair. They (at least from their public personas) just don't strike me as the straying types. My parents divorced after about 28 years, tried to make a go of it again a few years later and split again. It's very sad that it happens but I just don't think adultery played a part here.

So your take is this is his big opportunity to re-marry and then maybe win an election?

But really folks, the main reason I made this thread is simply because of how this couple was sold to the public as 'the example' of a real married couple by the democrats, in stark contrast to the Clinton marriage. The staged kiss, blah, blah, blah.

My thoughts...if Al loved his wife so much maybe he should have spent a bit more time with her, eh?

Who cares about Gore's fidelity! The fact of the matter is that Al and Tipper will now be contributing more to global warming now that they won't be cohabiting! Why isn't Al doing all he can to save the environment?

And let's not forget John McCain, who divorced his first wife to marry a trophy wife after she was the victim of a bad auto accident, even though she unceasingly supported him while he was a POW for so many years.

No, my take is that it isn't really appropriate to speculate on politicians private lives. People split up all the time. Just look at Wobbly Kate Winslet saying how great her marriage was a month before filing for divorce.

You're always starting threads about your political opponents and having a dig and this is just the latest extremely petty example of this.

/shrug

Al Gore isnt my 'political opponent'.

Hell, for all I know he has walked away from politics never to return.

But he is a very public figure, and as such, a topic of discussion in a variety of ways.

And while people do split up 'all the time' as you say....not many call it quits like that after 40 years of marriage. That is indeed unusual.

No one is forcing you to read the thread and post are they?

But I will be honest. I dont like Al Gore, and I think he is one of the biggest hypocrits on the planet. And fwiw, I see this as just more of his hypocrisy in action. Dont like it that I have an opinion? /shrug.
