Simple question.

Why has the Deluxe Edition disappeared from the pre-order options on Steam?
EDIT - It appears to be only North American customers who now have the Deluxe Edition option.

For those who might be unfamiliar, a press release from 2K Games had the following:

Sid Meier's Civilization V Digital Deluxe Edition will expand players' conquests with the new Babylonian civilization and their ruler, Nebuchadnezzar II (c. 630 - c. 561 B.C.). As King of Babylon, gamers will be able to expand their empire with advanced Babylonian Bowmen to rightfully earn the title of Nebuchadnezzar the Great. Sid Meier's Civilization V Digital Deluxe Edition will also include an in-depth "Behind the Scenes at Firaxis with Civilization V" video feature, as well as the game's epic soundtrack.

Gamers who pre-order any version of Sid Meier's Civilization V from Steam will receive the downloadable bonus content, Cradle of Civilization Map Pack: Mesopotamia, for free when the game is available. The map pack will let players experience the traditional Western and Middle Eastern "Cradle of Civilization." The pack will include the Fertile Crescent with the Nile River valley to the west and extending east down the Tigris and Euphrates river valleys to the Persian Gulf.:) Leaders will be able to explore new terrain, cultures and conquests.

It was available as a pre-order option, for 10USD more than the regular edition.

If we can get an official response from someone from 2K Games or Firaxis that would be great.

Anyone else is free to speculate.

Please abstain from trolling or flaming in this thread!:nono:

My cart is empty!

Yeah, the DE is still there. Its one of the options on the regular Civ5 page.

Yes, it seems to have disappeared. The Steam page on Civ5 doesn't list a deluxe anymore. Just the regular. Maybe something went wrong when they introduced the official release date of 24 September 2010 (not the 21th) and someone forgot to add the Deluxe?

What's the link if it's still there?

It tells me that I can preorder the Deluxe edition still, so its still there. Perhaps it has do with regions?

Could be that they ran out..there is a certain number of digital download distribution licenses handed out even though the game isnt an actually physical..maybe Steam only was given a small number of licenses to sell

Still there.

By forcing the steam store to load the US store via the ?cc=us in the link
http://store.steampowered.com/?cc=us

I can indeed confirm the deluxe edition is still listed.

So the DE is now restricted (perhaps temporarily) to US customers?

And mechaerik, we didn't really need the picture. We do believe you. :) Thank you anyway.

Interesting. In light of the recent developments on this fine forum I suppose now we need to start a rant :gripe: about whether this is anti-European or something.

I wonder if this ?cc=us trick means that we can also use this method to buy at the US price of $49.99 instead of being charged €49.99 in Europe. That'd be nice. :D

I can't see the Deluxe Edition either. It has been like that for several days. Luckily I was able to buy it while it was still available. :)

Edit: I can't find DE from Steam client's store page but it is still available in Steam Store when I browse it with web browser.

I've tried it and I don't think it works. The only way to do it, to my knowledge, is to befriend someone in the US who you can get to buy the game for you and gift it to you (you will need to trust them enough to be able to pay them via paypal or some other means). I have specifically asked 2K Greg whether this is permitted and whether it will work, but I have yet to receive a response.

Believe me, I too am not pleased with the thought of paying 80USD for civ5 when US customers get it for 50. A more than 50% price hike is not justified. And yes, to any Steam fans out there, I appreciate that it is not necessarily Valve who set the price - it is probably the publisher 2K Games.

That is probably because for whatever reason you are browsing the US Steam store when using your browser.

Interestingly enough, I just used the cc=us and I could add the $49.99 into the shopping basket and press the proceed button. Now I didn't actually check-out and pay for it, but it's possible up to the basket.

Hmm. You have me wondering now. I was pretty sure it didn't work. The reason is you'd have to put in a US address. Something that probably won't go down well with the bank if your credit card is not American.

Should be interesting if Greg responds to this thread. Then again, We may have to wait for the much anticipated, universal-tell all FAQ forth coming to get any info.

An official statement from Greg would bew really needed a lot of people would like to buy the Digital Deluxe Edition and didn't preorder yet.

If this is not a mistake, I don't really understand the implication of it.

Either:

1. Only NA players have access to this "exclusive" content

OR

2. NA players are paying 10 bucks more for content everyone will receive anyway

I really, really hate all these pre-order/deluxe unlockables. It forces players to spend cash without trying out the product just to get little trinkets and novelty items.

The Deluxe Edition people should get the Civilization Extreme Diplomacy game

Hey guys; sorry I didn't see this thread earlier.

I'm checking in to this right now and I'll let you guys know what is up as soon as I know.

i can't wait to develop some bowman strat (like quechua rush or praets or something) and abuse that mechanic to dominate everyone who can't get the deluxe edition.
