The current layout of the Other Games forum is in dire need of reorganization. There are sub forums that get hardly any traffic, and their are sub forums of the sub forums that get a lot of traffic. With this in mind, I think a list of sub forums that get enough traffic to warrant their own sub forum should be made. Here is my opinion on the matter:

Active Sub-Forums: - Sub forums that get enough traffic to have their own sub forum - Alpha Centauri, Never Ending Stories, All Other Games, Forum Games

Inactive Sub-Forums: - Sub forums that do not get enough traffic to have their own sub forum - Spore, Sid Meier's Railroads!, Galactic Civilizations II, Rise of Nations, Total War, Chess, Sid Meier's Pirates!, Colonization, Master of Orion, Call to Power Series

Now that has been sorted out, it's easier to see how the Other Games forum should be organized (or at least, in my opinion):

EDIT: Draw Your Own Story should be moved to the Arts and Entertainment forum, and I don't really care about whether forum games gets post count enabled or not - the mods can decide that.

Sounds sensible to me :goodjob:

As long as I get postcount for my posts in IOT :p

Spam Games - Would consist of threads such as the following: Good Wish Bad Wish, Roll to Dodge, Draw Your Own Story, Eat Poop You Cat, Quiz Games, Caption Contests, Story Continuation Games, List Games, Beat the Pic Above You, Good Wish Bad Wish, Fortunately Unfortunately

Hold it!

Wait, wait, hold on. No, no, for a third time no.

If anything DRAW Your Own Story should be moved to Arts and Entertainment. It is not spam, hell technically it's not even a forum game. It's a collaborative comic where people draw (or otherwise create) an actual story. The series should not in any circumstances be lumped together with spam games. When old Forum Games threads were purged because the mods consider the forum spam, we lost all nine of the early DYOS threads. Those threads were not only full of fun memories but chronicled the development of CFC as a community from 2003 onwards. Yes, some of the comics were silly fun, but we also lost some truly amazing comics as well. Some of them were works of art.

DYOS is not Beat The Pic Above You. I feel like I have to speak up because I'd hate for them to be lumped with spam and then deleted en masse again.

I don't really know where DYOS should be, to be honest.

In a place of honor. ;)

Maybe remain in the main Forum Games forum, or in the non-spam game section, or perhaps move over to Arts and Entertainment. Anywhere where there's appreciable traffic and no risk of being deleted like last time.

Just because DYOS is sentimental, doesn't mean it's not its own type of spam.

Of course, some of us don't always consider spam a BAD thing...when it's put in its proper place. ;) So don't think that calling something spam means that it's horrible and not worthy, it's just spam in the context of this forum.

More than one DYOS participant has asked that this be moved to Arts & Entertainment, and I would have no objection to that. It's more an interactive storytelling activity than a game, and I certainly would not consider it spam. :)

So long as the Rome Total War forum is stickied so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle of other game threads, as I do regularly look around on there.

I agree with taillesskangaru on the matter that DYOS should be in the Art/Entertainment subforum.

Definite yes, Zack. I must say, you've outdone yourself. :)

I wonder who voted no. I would like to hear your side of the story.

Honestly, anything is better than the way it's organised now.

What you've done is a HUGE improvement :goodjob:

I officially approve of this plan

I endorse this idea.
I don't care whether any of the game forums contribute to post count though.

DYOS requires a lot of effort, it should be respected.

I agree almost completly. I don't see the need to divide "empire building" and "non-spam". You will find with "spam" gone, the games will have a lot more space on the forum page.

I really hope they do this. It would me a massivly positive move to reflect how far forum games has come over the last few years, as well as relegate the fading games. (spore should be totally remerged)

I'm cooled on the idea of splitting forum games, tbh. Particularly with post count turned on. I can't see a mafia game running in such a way that people would be able to feel free to participate regularly without fear of a spam infraction. Whilst the games themselves are not spam, they do invariably involve a fair bit of spam. It's good to have an environment in which a lot of that isn't tolerated, but with post count on, I think it would only result in moderation too heavy handed for the wants of the forum gamers.

I don't see a problem with post count turned off, though (apart from endless disagreements as to whether a game should go in the spam or non-spam section).

I approve of this plan, but would go one step further and merge the subforums that never took off back into All other games. This would reduce the clutter and potentially boost activity for both the games in question, and AoG. I'm thinking of the Railroads and Rise of Nations forums in particular. The Call to Power forum is also a strong candidate.

All don't have a significant history that is worth preserving, and the window of opportunity for them to become active parts of CFC is long gone. They are just taking up space now.
