I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed what seems to be a military camp or some kind of fair or circus in the hex north east of New Castle in this screen shot:

Spoiler :

I doubt it's actually a fortified military unit (my first thought), since it doesn't have an icon over it the way all of the other on-screen units do. If it's a village improvement, it looks a lot more colorful than the city itself, and the "buildings" really do look more like tents.

Any thoughts?

I have no clue, other than maybe being a "research improvement" I thought I heard something about somewhere. Could definitely be wrong about that though.

Somewhere to house units? It kind of looks like a fire pit in the middle which would suggest some kind of camp.

That would actually be a very useful improvement to remove clutter from the map.

my first thought was that it was the building circus, but that can't be right. maybe it a resource improvement of some kind..

I noticed that as well, and I think it's probably a wonder (though I don't know which). We've already seen that wonders can be displayed on the hexes around the city tile.

oh hadn't though of that. But isn't it a tad big for a wonder, the others we've seen are tiny.

Yeah.. looks a bit big for a wonder but possibly. An upgraded trading post sounds plausible. That would imply that trading posts upgrade over time like cottages too. What would they improve to? Markets? Eventually malls?

Yes, malls the size of cities covering the landscape! Hopefully they would upgrade to settlements/suburbia.

It wouldn't be unheard of. Scale is something that can't be handled well in civ games by nature. They use much that is abstract, running a civ country is far flung from running a real one!

I noticed this tile, but assumed it was a trading post of some sort.

The other thing I noticed in that screenshot is at the bottom of the screen next to the minimap.
What is that unit??
It almost looks like some form modern infantry with robotic artillery (based on the icon over it).

Nice spot. It looks like anti-air to me though.

Definitely looks like tents. My first thought is that it's a resource tile being worked, but no specific candidates come to mind. There is a well-like feature near the center of the tile. I suppose it could be an oasis, but that's reaching.

And yes, the unit at the bottom of the screen is almost certainly an anti-aircraft battery.

The more I look at this thing, the more I don't think it's a military camp. If it were, I'd imagine something with rows of similarly-colored tents. I mean, some of those tents are striped! It's got to be some kind of of fair. Or maybe a refugee camp!

Could it just be a town? If it's a town, then maybe "European" graphics from an early era in the game might explain the colorful and odd appearance.
