Welcome to the Half Full Club, Cup 5a Augustus's Revenge! If you have view the last installment, you will have discovered that my sister crashed my computer and thus all of my savs. So here is Augustus's rightly deserved revenge! Here we pull our own hair out, attempting to win with rediculous circumastances.
So come, enjoy your daily loss of productivity and sanity. Feel free to join in and critize at your will. Suprisingly, this is productive.
The series is now at Prince!

Contents:
Round 1 - The Settleing
Round 2 - The TMIT Hypothesis
Round 3 - :hammer:
Round 4 - The big question
Round 5 - The Scolders Plan
Round 6 - A Victorious Requim
Our leader. Introducing the lovely Augustus Ceasar of the Chinese, the deja'vu Hothead.
civ4screenshot0000h.jpg

INDUSTRIOUS - A nifty trait that gives us a 50% production bonus when building wonders. Also cheaper forges.
IMPERIALISTIC -A lovely trait that gives us faster settlers and 100% bonus to Great General emergance.

Our Unique Unit (Commonly refered as the UU). The lovely Cho-Ko-Nu! I had a blast with this UU in HFC - Cup 4. Hopefully we can have some fun again.
civ4screenshot0001u.jpg

Our UNique Building (If you haven't picked it up, it is commonley refered to as the UB, such as the UU). Ah, the Pavillion! This will be particulary handy for this game. ;)
civ4screenshot0002.jpg

The start! Settle in place? I don't see any definet gains off the bat, but a strategic move with the scout will determine this.
civ4screenshot0003j.jpg

The Rules:
1) You may not have ANY MORE than 3 city! This is a 3 city challange! This also includes if you capture/flip enemy citys.
2) Although all the Victorys are turned on (So that the AI may persue them), you must win either by Cultural or Diplomatic.
3) You may not adopt (Well you can specificaly, but we don't want you to. So don't. :) ) the following civics:
-) Slavery.
-) Organized Religion.
-) Free Religion.
4) You MAY NOT build the Apostolic Palace. Curtousy of TMIT. :)

You may be wondering. How should I post?
We awnser, 'anytime you like, so long as you use spoilers'.

Thanks:
Cam H - there to scold me into shape. Ty!
TMIT - Your "let's play" videos are very impressive. I'm showing them to my father so that he can be a challange!
Kossin - For thou art ze king.

The save is below, it is a WB save, enabling you to choose your speed and difficulty.
Be warned, you will need to give the Barbarians techs according to your level of Difficulty. But I'm sure you know what this is.

Enjoy the Damnation.
Remember, patience. Discpline.

I suppose. But as it is a 3 city challange, your own votes will be limited by your small population. I don't think it's that cheesy.:)

Lol. I've actually never won an AP victory, so I suppose I can ban the building of it by the player.

Round 1 - The Settleing

We start by moving the Warrior 1NE. There are NO other resorces in sight, so I just settle in place.
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0000.jpg

We meet our first "friend". Presenting Peter of Carthage! (Oh bugger, a very powerfull leader for a very powerfull civilization. Time to block him in.)
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0001z.jpg

Techs path was a bit different than the usuall. As we start with Agriculture for the Rice Resorce, I went bronze Working first to get rid of those damn forests.
The settling of your citys. As this is a 3-City-Challange, I have placed them in optimun positions (I hope ) while blocking out Peter. If he tries to sneek past with a settler, we can declare war and kill the settler, then Great General farm.
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0005i.jpg

civ4screenshot0006.jpg

This is going to be a challenge. Only Shanghai is a good cultural city as far as I can see with a bit of production. Your capital only has rice as a resource? Lets hope a strategic resource will pop up. Shanghai has the best papers to become your GA farm. This is if you want to go the cultural route. Thank god you are industrious so you can build wonders fairly fast. Will follow this with interest.

Cap and FP city = cottages.

3rd city spread irrigation + artist spam. Bomb them there.

With any luck you get 2-3 religions and can get > 200% culture in each city other than #3 which is mostly going to be bombed. Unless you get DoW'd you'll win.

I played a bit of this game (Prince/Epic).
Spoiler :
I would have settled as you did, except instead of Guangzhou, my third city was Carthage. :p I warrior rushed Peter with 3 warriors and captured Carthage very easily. He only had 1 warrior defending his capital because he was busy building work boats. Carthage is a pretty good city - it has 3 crab, iron, and stone (which should help with early wonders).

I built Stonehenge + Great Wall easily and will soon get Pyramids.

Note: you and Peter are the only ones on your continent. Would the AP strategy mentioned by TMIT still work if you'll have to wait until Caravels to contact all the other civs? (That is, would it still be faster than a Culture win?)

Right, following TMIT's plan. :goodjob:

@Absolute Zero, I will view your spoiler after I've completed this game. If there are any questions, expect them to be answerd in a week. Sorry, but the spoiler might contain 'hint' that could be considered 'cheating'.

Round 2 - The TMIT Hypothesis

To start the round, Peter (of Carthage) does some wonder-hogging. He's grabbed The Great Wall and The Pyramids. Go figure.
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0000v.jpg

Some techs we reaserched. One for Gungzahou and one for some Wonders. Hopefully we can get some before Peter. :)
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0001g.jpg

civ4screenshot0002a.jpg

We get a WONDER! Yus! The Statue of Zeus isn't realy the best wonder for our position, but it was the only one available and it gives us +2 Great Artist points. Spiffing.
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0004x.jpg

We learn alphabet. Then Peter make a demand.
And this kids, is what Wonder-hogging does to people. Don't do it. On the plus side, it did get us to pleased for a tech we started with. :)
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0006q.jpg

A fun event, is useless at this current point in time.
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0007i.jpg

Techs and Wonders. Now it's our turn to wonder-hog and get rid of those forests.
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0008t.jpg

civ4screenshot0009q.jpg

Now, the TMIT hypothesis. He kindly stated what plan we should take, and we will do so. The plan is here.

The save. This should be fun. ;)

Too bad you missed out on the pyramids. It works wonders with cultural victories (early repres + GA). I do guess that you will make a run for the parthenon which is the most important wonder now. This is going to be fun.

Round 3 - :hammer:

So, our task at hand is to win via Culture. So we reaserched a very important tech for our plan. Time to leverage the UB! :)
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0000a.jpg

We build 3 wonders! . Unfortunetly my picture of The Statue of Zeus shat its' self.
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0001n.jpg

civ4screenshot0002o.jpg

And now for an interesting turn of telling this game. :):

(An Australian commentator begins commentating about the game. His name is Bruce. And so is everyone elses.)

MC Bruce: And here we are Ladys and Bruces! Lets take a look at what Bruce's up to. Bruce has had a snabby-whoppy event there, he has.
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0004p.jpg

MC Bruce Oh, but what's happened here ladys and Bruces? Bruce has just stolen Athetics from Bruce! But Bruce isn't down yet, as Bruce has just discovered Bruce-osophy!
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0005.jpg

MC BruceBut Bruce is catching up to Bruce! Bruce has stolen another tech from Bruce! What will the Bruce-ese do? We must wait and see.
And here's Bruce shopping around, in Australia we call it Chin-wagging. And so a very succsessful chinwagg between Bruce and Bruce!
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0006f.jpg

Mc BruceAnd here in the studio, we cannot be fekked trying to commenting for every single tech. So, Bruce stole Code-of-Bruce from Bruce. And then Bruce reserched the rest. And Bruce is catching up to Bruce!
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0007.jpg

civ4screenshot0008k.jpg

civ4screenshot0009k.jpg

civ4screenshot0010d.jpg

civ4screenshot0011b.jpg

civ4screenshot0012c.jpg

MC BruceBruce here has just informed me that I've been confusing you with the Bruces. So now I will say Bruce's first name as well and Bruces ingame name, in a catchy little word that we Australians like to call Shin-diggy.

MC BruceAnd, oh! oh! oh, oh, oh! Bruce-ius has just entered the game! And our Bruces here at the studio have confirmed that I am Australian! And also that Bruce-ius has been the first to reach Liberism!
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0013v.jpg

MC BruceAnd so Lady's and Bruces, we finish the round. And now I'm going to have a cold shower, while laughing hysterically until I foam at the mouth and fall over backwards.

Completed as a shadow with the same settings:

Spoiler :
Hardly stunning, however;

metzi3cccultvictory.jpg

Brief summary in spoiler;
Spoiler :
I used the same settings as Metzi (Prince, Epic), and settled in nearly the same spots (only Guangzhou was different, one tile east). Got The Pyramids, The Oracle, The Sistine Chapel, and the Taj Mahal. Beijing went with the National Park (lots of Forests on Plains - it was a fairly ordinary 'settle-in-place' site, but it ended up with 10 Forest Preserves), while Guangzhou became the traditional National Epic :gp:-farm with Hermitage as its other National Wonder. I did not fight at all except for the occasional wandering Barbarian. Founded Judaism, Taoism (Philosophy via The Oracle), Christianity, and Confucianism.

Round 4 - The question

The question is located at the bottom. Please zoom down there if you have any awnsers. :)

A quick trade with our comrade, who just switched to free religion.
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0000.jpg

And now, presenting the rest of the continent! And the only tech I mananged to steal from my neighbor!
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0002.jpg

civ4screenshot0001.jpg

civ4screenshot0003.jpg

civ4screenshot0004.jpg

civ4screenshot0005.jpg

This is certaintaly an interesting situation. Sitting Bull seems to be the big cheese of the continent, having vassalized the continent.
Darius seems to be our biggest threat, as he is very advanced (big suprise there)
and is our closest opponent to winning a Cultural victory.
Alexander is not doing very well. Even we are beating him. :)
Hammurabi appears to be in the middle, looking to expand his horizons...by force I think.

All of the leaders are apart from Alexander and Peter appear to be in WHEOOHRN mode. Hopefully it's a combined attemt to crush Darius. :)

Some statistics, before the big question!!!
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0006.jpg

civ4screenshot0007.jpg

civ4screenshot0008.jpg

And...the question is:
Should I begin using the Culture slider to the max now?
As the other continent is entering war mode, and I doubt peter wants to attack me It seems like a good time for me. But then again, this is my first time so any help is dearly appreciated!

Thank you all!

The save,

Very quick suggestions;

Hereditary Rule: With one unhappy city, one at the happy cap, and one not far off, I'd revolt immediately even though you'll probably want to take up Representation as soon as it becomes available.

Guangzhou should at some point get out a Work Boat and you can bring back a Caravel (to cover it from Barb' Galleys) for the Clams on the east coast. You need every health resource that you can find.

A :smoke: we both made ; chain irrigate around to the Rice Farm south of Guangzhou.

As for "The Question", I'd say is "No" ...

I suggest you keep pressing onward to Constitution so that you can enact Representation. From there it's a dilemma; Biology / Medicine, Mass Media, or a Military unit tech' thereafter:

You'll want Biology for Guangzhou’s Great Artist production due to both the +1:food: and also possibly the National Park, while Medicine unlocks the Hospital and Environmentalism to part offset your health issues. Both Beijing (-10:food:) and Shanghai (-3:food: when you grab those two Floodplains {Hermitage city?}) need Farms that will rectify the population predicament once you acquire Biology.

Mass Media is the end point for those late game Cultural WoWs and Broadcast Towers. I think you'll need to look at these seeing you've got just the one religion and resource-poor in terms of Sid's Sushi and Creative Constructions.

Possibly the least of the three would be to look for a unit that can stave off an Industrial Age intercontinental invasion stack. Gunpowder + Rifling will lead to 14:strength: Riflemen, while Gunpowder + Military Tradition (quicker for you than Rifling) gives you 12:strength: Cuirassiers, and the combination of the two obviously 15:strength: Cav's. Nonetheless, I'd work very hard at keeping the AI distracted or make it so they're unlikely to attack you. If things get particularly 'touchy' you may need to consider going back to no State Religion, but ideally it won't get to that as Brennus is the only one I'd suggest who is notably sensitive to religious differences and he's no threat.
