I thought I'd break the good news on the main RFC board:

The modder known as embryodead has released a definitive version of the long sought-after RFC Epic/Marathon mod-mod.

If you play RFC, then this is pretty much the answer to your prayers. :king:

The mod-mod offers:
  • no gameplay alterations
  • two optional game speeds
  • improved code to make the mod run faster
My guess is that more and more new content added to RFC will be done for this mod-mod and not the official version of the game. I'd even go as far as saying that this version is or will become the next version of RFC, since the creator of RFC has formally stopped working on the mod.

Could this be adapted to RFC Rand? That would make the ultimate RFC game IMO.

Probably, though it would take some time and effort, so I can't promise anything atm. Never even played RFC RAND tbh.

As a side note, the final version have been updated with a final final patch 1.1 that fixes the issues with research rate, among other things.

Turn 75-181 tech penalty not fixed in epic/marathon!

Eh? It was fixed in 1.1 version. If your version is 1.0 or earlier, please upgrade!

Did some improve the settler amps? Because I played a 3000 BC American start to see what would happen, and the European succeded in imperialism a bit too well: there was no room for cities, and Germany settled America South of Canada and New York. China, Russia, and the GDR were massive.

I haven't touched settler maps, though when the AI has way too much time, such things can happen, even with settlers being more expensive than they should be.

New version available! Includes bug fixes and even more speed enhancements!

Yeah. I'd like to be able to say that its completely error free also, but then I'd have to do the testing required to make such a claim. :D But as long as people are using it and issues are revealed these are also being taken care of. And also any issues that are connected with the official RFC release, so I'd suggest anyone to use this version instead!

There apparently was a bug in the 1.2 release so a new version is available for downloading. Just to warn anyone from using the 1.2 version. (The current version is 1.21.)

Playing some Civs generated Python exceptions, or something. That is actually really bad, so everyone should update. The good news is that there is a quick-fix download available.

There was only a small error in Communications.py which effectively disabled the "losing contact with civs after some time" mechanic.

Anything causing a Python exception is potentially bad and needs to be dealt with. Some are of course "harmless" but in a worst case scenario one such mistake will disable the whole mod...
