I want to get excited about civ5 but really, I have no excitement about it currently. My reasons are thus...
-Screenshots...the graphics look semi-cartoony and not improved from civ4
-New "feature" where one unit is only on one tile- hate this, feels like a lazy development shortcut...since they have been working on it for "3" years (such bs)
-No modability included thus far (mentitioned in several reviews)
-No bragging about the AI (they arent even trying to use it as a "new" feature-which means it will be stupid as always-unless modded by the community)
-Removed most effects of religion, rather than revamping it, removed espionage which I felt had potentional to be improved upon, you cant even re-name cities
-Practically quoted directly from sc2 Dustin Browder, "for every new unit they take one away"= obnoxious, unexciting. Dustin Browder same guy who thinks awesome starcraft play is one baneling, killing one marine, then screaming "terrible, terrible damage".
-Road upkeep listed as a feature...desperate for features much?
Only positives so far...
-Short movies have some interesting video and quotes by famous people. yay 1-2 minutes...
-City state ideas seem actually interesting
(Note: positives seem like added fluff rather than big influences on gameplay/game quality)
One suggestion:
Perhaps incorporate some features from civ4 colonization, which turned out to be a fairly fun and interesting game.
