I want to get excited about civ5 but really, I have no excitement about it currently. My reasons are thus...

-Screenshots...the graphics look semi-cartoony and not improved from civ4

-New "feature" where one unit is only on one tile- hate this, feels like a lazy development shortcut...since they have been working on it for "3" years (such bs)

-No modability included thus far (mentitioned in several reviews)

-No bragging about the AI (they arent even trying to use it as a "new" feature-which means it will be stupid as always-unless modded by the community)

-Removed most effects of religion, rather than revamping it, removed espionage which I felt had potentional to be improved upon, you cant even re-name cities

-Practically quoted directly from sc2 Dustin Browder, "for every new unit they take one away"= obnoxious, unexciting. Dustin Browder same guy who thinks awesome starcraft play is one baneling, killing one marine, then screaming "terrible, terrible damage".

-Road upkeep listed as a feature...desperate for features much?

Only positives so far...

-Short movies have some interesting video and quotes by famous people. yay 1-2 minutes...

-City state ideas seem actually interesting

(Note: positives seem like added fluff rather than big influences on gameplay/game quality)

One suggestion:
Perhaps incorporate some features from civ4 colonization, which turned out to be a fairly fun and interesting game.

Have you played CivIV?

They've been working on an entire game for three years. How is 1UPT a lazy shortcut compared to infinite stacking?

-No modability included thus far (mentitioned in several reviews)

Like?

They've already talked about the AI.

Espionage and religion didn't shine until CivIV BTS. An expansion.

It's called balancing.

-Road upkeep listed as a feature...desperate for features much?

Nitpicking.

City-states are big influences on the game, as is 1UPT and hexes.

Lol, at first I thought you were serious.

I mean really. You either have no idea what you're talking about (around half of what you said isn't even true) or you're a troll.

Once he said "no moddability", it became clear he was trolling. Simply because if no modding ever came up, you bet it would've bee quickly talked about and result in a few bannings.

Yes the non rational fanboy post which probably took you all of 5 secs...The graphics dont look improved imo from civ4 (excluding the movie footage). From that one stupid statement Im guessing your just gonna say everything is great with civ5, but lets keep reading.

"They" have been working on the entire game for three years. Oh no you are a fanboy. Two people talking about the game for a year, doesnt count as a year of development (lead developer and lead artist as only two working on the game for a year lol)

No moddability mentitioned so far. Your answer: like? Is this even a human response? Because it makes no sense. NO MODDABILITY means no mods, or ability to transform the game (some people create total remakes or soundtracks)-this feature has been massively popular in every single civ game yet released, and it isnt included (thus far).

There were plenty of fans of religion and espionage in civ4. You claim they didnt "shine". How old are you? Only shiney things keepin your interest? lol

Not going to bother with the rest of your trash post. Please feel free to get excited about the dumbing down of the game, and paying more money for less features/game quality. You didnt even suggest something I should be getting excited about.

Proof the OP is trolling and doesn't know what he's talking about:

Perhaps incorporate some features from civ4 colonization, which turned out to be a fairly fun and interesting game.

^ everything confirmed so far.

As to graphics and 1upt you couldn't be more wrong, and welcome to the forums

Not going to bother with the rest of your troll post. Please fell free to leave, and to enjoy your Civ 1 for as long as you want. You didn't even suggest why we should listen to you. Because you go all "lol" and "haha, fanboy" on us?

Even if its bad, at least be excited about the fact that the series is continuing, and that you have a chance to play it, however bad you may think it is.

And don't be a Civ 1 fanboy.

The graphics dont look improved

To a blind person this would be true. Those of us who have eyes see a world of improvement.

No moddability mentitioned so far.

It has been mentioned a lot by the developers. Just because this part hasn't been previewed doesn't mean it is not there. The previews have been about the game play, not the modding tools.

Indeed, if you were to go back to the previews for Civ IV then you would find it difficult to identify anything in those previews about the CIV IV moddability.

You noobs fail at basic reading btw....

I like how someone called me a civ1 fanboy since Ive done nothing but compare civ4 and civ5. You fanboys dont even try to make sense, just mass posting.

So back to my point..Why should I be excited about this game? Just continuing the series isnt enough lol or I'd be playing eagames awful series of unpatched games and sequels.

Hey Moderators:

Can we form, like, one big sticky thread for all these threads? It's a real killjoy to see everyday these threads on "skepicism" "what's there to be excited about" etc.

Just give them one big thread to vent why they are unhappy. Then we can get back to fun and strategy speculation.

So much for your vaunted rationality.

I think Charles555nc has his right to be skeptical. I have to admit that Im also quite skeptical about some changes, but Im still waiting to see and hear more about the game.

Do you even know what that means?

No wait, don't answer that.

Unsurprisingly the preview lacked the whole game code (when would a preview ever contain the entire game?) The reviewers reserved their judgment on this, so why didn't you?

You troll fail at being troll.

Aren't trolls supposed to respond to the posts addressed to them?

I too am skeptical, however his tone is not needed at all.

You need to understand the difference between being skeptical and expressing a dissenting opinion. They are not the same thing. A true skeptic reserves final judgment without evidence.
