Welcome folks. I am back with one more played out Civilization IV game before I embark on the materpiece (hopefully masterpiece) game called CiV!

This is no RPC but a simple game to pass the time and keep my playing/story telling game going. Of course that won't stop me from making an entertaining read. True to my reputation, I will play out the entire game to it's glorious or bitter end (see my failed last Diety game).

Segment 1: Local Exploration and Settlement
Segment 2: Horses and Arabs
Segment 3: Wonders and Iron
Segment 4: The Second Wonder Question and UNFRIENDS
Segment 5: The Barbarric and Incan Wars
Segment 6: The Liberalism Quest
Segment 7: Military knowledge
Segment 8: The Arabian Conquest
Segment 9: War Against the Portugese Alliance
Segment 10: Cruising into Space

Onto setting!

Immortal Difficulty (yes I can play and actually win at this level!)
EPIC speed (because I just can't give up my war-mongering possibilities)
Big/Small standard sized map (because that is just the most unpredictable for me)
All random continent and island size/shape

I went after a random leader and got

Well I cannot complain here! Financial and Spiritual with a strong early UU in the Skirmisher and a useful UB in the mint.

Of course as we know the map is more important than the leader.

The Random CIV Generator mocks old Mad Scientist, giving me one of the strongest leaders (hey, those surveys out there rank him fairly high) yet an abysmal coastal start with NO resources visible and here we are starting with the wheel and mining (Bah!).

So we got a pair of floodplains, a warrior due south, and a tranquel lake to ponder our opening movements!

I say move the warrior south, settle in place, and shoot for agriculture. My biggest question is do we go Bronze Working second and hope for some copper or just play it save and go hunting/archery. My guess is the first build is the ever popular worker.

at first I wanted write that next time you should turn on resource bubbles ;-)

how come you dont start at fresh water? I thought it's given...

what about settling 1S? to the north it seems like another coast in BFC...you would get more landmass (I hope)

Well the first time I follow one of youre games. Subscried.

how come you dont start at fresh water? I thought it's given...

Vranasm look at the lake tile to the west of the warrior and the river that flows into it. That is a source of fresh water. I do agree settling 1 S and Mad can you turn the resource pointer. I can't see if there are any resource in there

That start makes me hungry. Time to grab a bite. SIP and curse the map generator?

Greetings folks :)
My first ever post in the forums. lovely game and happy forums :) Just recently managed my very first win on immortal (UN victory).

I'd settle on the hill. plains hills ftw. Has fresh water too and my guess is that this tile is also coastal. But thats a risk to take.

Wait, why are we moving south? The food resources and perhaps more floodplains are undoubtedly in the part of the BFC that is still fogged.

Also my first post in a Mad Scientist game, but it's immortal (and I love immortal games!), and I'm procrastinating.

Here's some stuff you probably already know, but reading it here might still be helpful. There's got to be a food resource to the north or east (plains, so wheat / cows). SIP probably isn't a bad option. SW for the extra hammer from the plains hill might be good, but you might sacrifice your food resource. 1N will not lose you your food resource, but it also might not gain you anything either. You could try blindly charging off into the fog (WSW might be okay), but this is risky considering you're probably on some kind of peninsula (this is B+S after all). I'm guessing there's a good chance you've got an early strategic resource (considering there's so few visible now).

GLH is always awesome on B+S maps, and Mansa has always screamed "Colossus, NOW," to me (considering the forges).

Edit: Confused my west and my east...

I would say SIP. You cant scout anything useful with the warrior in that position so might as well hope the RNG gives you something. With 3 non-forest hills you probably have at least 1 mining resource and you should have 1 food somewhere in the fog.
Not sure I have ever seen a coastal start without seafood.

Food is located 2W of the settler, maybe also 2W1N. For me it'd be a nobrainer to settle 2N1W with this start since that gains the initial food, goes on a river and has the possibility of more floodplains and/or food.

Edit: The food may also be due north. Still, 2N1W gets it all plus the riverside access.

I'd re-roll that start if I were playing solo.

Otherwise, either settle in place and hope the RNG gives you good fog tiles, and maybe horses and copper/iron in the BFC. Or trudge off to the wilderness and hope it's not any worse.

I'm in for the 1S-faction ;)

less ocean but fresh water, and if there are any food resources in the ocean you probably could settle there another city...

On second thought, the plains hill looks delicious.2 floodplains and the hidden food. I'd go there.

But what if the food resource is 2N or 2NE? :p Tough start anyway. I would be inclined to start on the plains hill too. It looks like there will be a hidden resource (horse or copper) close by.

Another vote for the plains hill. Risky, but there's a lot of fog there that can uncover the food source. That extra hammer will be nice, and there's at least 1, maybe 2 FP to help with early growth.

1W looks like a strategic resource to me. Not 100% sure, but that basic 2 food tile in the middle of forests/oasis is screaming military resource to me.
