Correcting some good units

I recently found that I could easily correct some weird stuff happening in some unit's animations, like the little correction I made to one of Sandris' units lately. So, the purpose of this thread is to post your corrected files or ask (gently) for someone to modify them (if the author is ok). If you don't want your files to be modified, please feel free to send me a PM.

Here is the first "big" correction I just made on Sandris' Imperial Legionary. See the gifs below to see what I corrected.

Before : the equipement is moving.

After : equipement stands still.

I've shown the north direction only since it was the most difficult one, but every directions were fixed. Original unit by Sandris, of course. Here is the file. The original unit can be found here.

EDIT: I'm not sure whether I changed the offset or not. I'll check it and tell you tomorrow.
EDIT2: The offset I've used is 45x45. I now prefer 45x40, which is closer to the original 45x39. Anyway the most important correction to Sandris' units is for the Run anim, which need to be changed to 45x40, 45x39 or whatever, because right now it's set at 49x41...

Same correction to the Marian Legionary: only the shadows were moving, so it's far less spectacular. See pics below for more info.

New link here.

Yep :D I've spent some time wondering how that happened. Was it linked to the rotate ball ? or maybe to one of his arms ? Probably not, because I didn't have to correct anything on the south direction animation (which was a big luck !). The Legionary standing in front of a moving equipement would have been a pain to correct !

Yes, I have a request. I've noticed that in the default animation in at least two of imperator1961's archer units the archer's arm pops up and down. This is visually distracting, not to mention he looks like he is doing something naughty :scared: .

The two units that I know do it are the Portuguese archer High Medieval and the Portuguese Archer Late Medieval, though probably most of his archers do this.

Portuguese Pack

Thanks

Ok Goldflash, I'll take a look at them tonight and if I can correct them I'll give it a try tomorrow. And ask imperator if he's ok with it, of course.

The more I see this thread's title, the more I find it stupid, but well... I didn't know how to call it so I asked myself "How many units will I correct? And answered "some" ; why do I correct them? Are they bad? No they are "good"... so: correcting some good units..." :D

Anyway...
Here's the correction requested by Goldflash. I have corrected imperator's Burgundian Archer, Flemish Archer, Portuguese Archer HM and Portuguese Archer LM. The preview below shows only the Flemish Archer but all these 4 units had the same treatment: frames 1,2,3 + frames 14,13,14,15 played twice. I deleted every frame showing any movement of the arms.

The gif plays too fast but anyway its purpose is to show what has been modified. I don't want to sound impolite to imperator, but the original anim looks more like a fidget anim, and it must have been very disturbing to see this move playing in loop when playing the game. I must add that correcting other people's units feels very indiscrete, you can see what the creator did in details and it feels like watching above his shoulder...
Here's the link to the four corrected flc all in one rar file.

The original units can be found here and there.

Thank you, Themanuneed! I don't know how many of his archers do that - maybe all of them - and it really was disturbing, almost to the point of replacing them in my mod.

EDIT: You're just the man I need, Themanuneed, because I've got another one.

Micaelus made a nice Generic horseman with a spear. The animations are all fine, but then I noticed this:

I don't even have a single clue how you go about fixing that, but if you could, I'd be grateful.

Generic European Pack Thread

The unit in question is the horse spearman, but I haven't looked at the others.

Double Edit: I took a peak at the swordsman and he is fine.

You're just the man I need, Themanuneed, because I've got another one.
I've spent years hoping someone would make this joke :D
Offset problem, or is there something else ? That's very easy to fix, like I what I did to Sandris units (Run anim mainly). I may not be online this week-end, but I will post the corrected files as soon as possible.

Thank you!! And Don't worry, I've waited years for the opportunity to make that joke.

themanuneed... Good job on correcting the Archers.
The Archers move their heads rather fast due to the deleted frames. The way to correct that would be to replace the deleted frames using duplicates of your corrected frames then the head only could be copied and pasted to those frames. The animations would then have the same number of original frames and use the same Flc Speeds so the head movements would be as they were... More work but that would be the way.

Yes, the Generic horseman is an Offset situation with the Large Frames used.

Yes, I did notice the head wobble, but I decided not to make an issue of it. If you feel like working on that, Themanuneed, then I'll use the new files, but if not, no worries.

Thank you!! And Don't worry, I've waited years for the opportunity to make that joke.
:D
I'll see what I can do, anyway I have sent a PM to imperator1961 asking him if he could redo these 4 default anims.
I'm adding the correction I made to the Marian Legionary, less spectacular than the Imperial Legionary, it was just the shadows moving. See the pics in the first post. Download is there too.

Well done. :goodjob:

Not so well is ,that you have uploaded your corrections into the main site of the DB. Please move your files into the right subfolders. Thanks !
You're right, I've just noticed that. It's done now, and I've changed the link in the first post.

@Goldflash: I've tried a little offset correction but I'm not sure it will do, maybe I will have to correct the storyboard using the good old cut'n'paste technique. I have to see what my corrections look like in game (I can't do it right now, I don't have my civ3 cd around), and then if it doesn't look better I'll spend some more time on it.

CD? Oh, those shiny round things you put in a record player or auto-gyro. Goldflash is all Digital Distribution now, baby. :D
