SDK on Steam!

When I open the world builder I get a screen which shows a globe with a V on it with the words: world builder with the o as a globe with a hammer flying around it. Is this the loading screen? Am I not waiting long enough?

I've given it 10 minutes and it still has not loaded. i7 960 12g DDr3.... not exactly on a low end machine....

No C++ released yet. Aww. Well looks like I'll be brushing up on my Lua then.

Also I'm having same problems with Modbuddy. Gonna try installing VS2010 express see if that fixes it... Nope.

Don't expect the C++ for several months, same thing as when Civ4 was released.

Yah it takes a while to load the assets. You should have a screen with the buttons new map, load map, and mods over a giant globe with a hammer.

I'm not getting anything here.... I have the game installed on P: does it know to look for assets elsewhere other than C:?

I don't think Firaxis knows that people use other drives. Well, their testers don't anyway. :p

I have no idea how to fix it though. I know the ModBuddy will ask you for where you installed your game and to find your user directory, but it doesn't appear that WorldBuilder asks those questions at all.

I'm surprised everyone's having problems. Vista made me download the Iso before it even let me try to open it :crazyeye:

I have mine installed on my D: drive and it loads up just fine, so it shouldn't be an issue of only looking on C:.

Do you get any kind of window at all? And have you had Task Manager open to the Processes tab to see if WorldBuilder.exe shows up when you try to run it?

Doh. Well there goes my modding out of the window. Stuff I want to do very much doubt the functionality is exposed in lua. :(

That really got me curious, can I ask what you have in mind? To demand only "low-level" it must be interesting.

a WIP Civ4 mod I was working on that got abandoned because of work/Civ5 imminent release.

'Advisor system' (needs a rename since advisors are a big part of Civ 5), advisors are a new game feature like a cross between wonders and civics or like the founding Fathers on Civ Col, food redistribution, a completely new religion system (that I feel fits in with Shafer's vision of Civ 5) that would prob be similar to social policies where you create a religion from scratch. Subcultures (corporations, religion, crime rings, terrorism) civs within a civ that 'piggyback' one or more civ's cities for their own ends, immigration / emigration, advanced pacts & treaties. Loads of stuff. None of it was possible in python on Civ4 unless I exposed stuff myself with the DLL.

I'm also about 1000x faster in C++ than I would be in lua even if it were possible.

The contents of this thread, detail what I'm going to do, but obv will be redesigned to fit into the Civ 5 ethos.

Wow, I'm impressed. These ideas are superb!

The immigration concepts are amazing, these could change a lot how the game is meant to be played, making the player to focus more on civic development - not only on explorative or militaristic, like it was on reality (I don't know if where you live they put emphasis on that but here where I live we had an "exploration-based colonization", and when you put side by side with English colonies, for example, you see huge differences on local societies, even nowadays). This immigration one is fantastic!

I won't be long since you probably will talk a lot about this mod yet and I probably will be there following, but I must say I'm now wanting it done as soon as possible :)

I myself will focus more on graphics (have done some mods on other games - 2d and 3d) and - of course it's too early to know - but when, and if, you need some help I'll be glad to help you on your mod, seems absolutely rich and refreshing :thumbsup:

(sorry if my english was confuse, a bit asleep - talking on these subjects isn't easy on another lang)
