Hammurabi of Babylon - barebones leader mod.

Now those of you who haven't purchased the DLC can play as or against Babylon too.

Update: 25/10/10: Babylon has been made available for purchase via Steam. As such, this mod will now serve as more of a "try it free before you buy", so you can decide for yourself whether you think the gameplay changes are significant enough.

Mod Description:
Adds the leader Hammurabi of Babylon.
"No frills" (read: barebones) version of the Babylon Deluxe DLC, so if you already own that particular DLC there is no point in using this mod.
No official artwork, audio, graphics, pedia entries etc.
Otherwise functionally identical to Nebuchadnezzar II in that Hammurabi has the same trait, unique building, unique unit, personality attributes and city names.
If you don't own the Deluxe DLC, until it gets released this mod is about as close as you're going to get to playing as Nebz.

NOTE: This is a barebones civ, based off the Hebrew civ made by Solver. It uses the diplo scene of Ramesses and the vanilla artwork for the UU and UB. It also uses the artwork and icons (leader and civ) from Solver's Hebrew mod. (This may change in a later version, when I can create some new dds files.)

If you like this civilization (whether playing as or playing against), why not consider purchasing the "Nebuchadnezzar II" DLC when it is available? Unlike this mod, it has professional polish. Sadly it's not yet available and it's not known when/whether it will be.

It can be downloaded here. Current version is 1. (2nd Oct '10)

Install instructions:
1. Extract the contents of the zip file to your mods directory. The mods directory is located at My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Mods. If done correctly, there should be a folder named "Babylon Hammurabi" in the mods folder.
2. After launching the game, go to Mods-> Browse Mods and tick the box for the Babylon Hammurabi mod.
3. The civ can now be selected when starting a (modded) game. Note the civ is at the bottom of the list, so scroll all the way down. It will be possible for you or the AI to get Babylon if set to random.

Special thanks to Solver for the Hebrew civ which I based this off of.:)

Modders, I'm looking for help with making some better icons and the DawnOfMan dds files. At the moment, it probably looks a bit bizarre seeing Solomon/Hebrew artwork instead of Hammurabi/Babylon stuff.

This is great, thank you very much. But as for the quote "If you enjoy it, buy it when it's available", pass. Why should I pay for something which should already be included in the game I bought. I already pay $30-40 more than others because of where I live.

Hmm, yeah I'm only trying to be diplomatic (being kind to Firaxis). I too am somewhere where the deluxe edition is more than double the price of the regular game.

The main downside of using this instead is that it won't work with steam achievements, and that some people may find it weird having the Ramesses leaderhead used for Hammurabi.

At least now, people without the deluxe DLC can still play with Babylon and participate in strategy discussions involving the civ. :)

well good work anyway... I'm creating civilizations at the moment... I have added all the button pics and civ data but the only thing left is the leader animation, which from what I can see from unpacking the fpk files is it's going to be really difficult for most people to create customer leaders anims... it's amazing how complex it is and I think we might have to learn how to use granny 3d to do this which is around $15000 programme. but maybe there is a 3d max plugin or something or a converter.

BTW, I'd suggest having Darius instead of Ramses for a fill-in leaderhead. They both have the Mesopotamian style (Egyptian Pharaohs were always different).

nice job! I agree Darius would feel a little closer, not that it matters much.

I'm sure that can be arranged.

@santino6, you're more than welcome to use the xml file in this mod if you intend to work on a Babylon mod. In the spirit of keeping it a barebones mod, I've left the civpedia entries pretty scant, and the diplo introduction/defeat messages that I put in are pretty lame, so they'd be good things to change for a more polished mod.

I was hoping to be able to work in a static leaderhead, but from what I've heard from Solver, it sounds like that's problematic at the moment, and using a fill-in leader is safer for now.

Yeah Babylon and Persia's leaderheads are like the same guy, just ones standing up and one sitting down. And are you able to change the written diplomatic text?

Absolutely! I'm not much of a writer though, so I'm not the best person to be doing that. To be honest, I don't even read the diplo text of any of the leaders.

If you have suggestions for what to write, I'm all ears. :)

EDIT
Posting this hear for my own reference:
DDS for Civ5 must be uncompressed, RGB with alpha.

Thanks! I was just thinking to myself that some riflemen would be perfect for cutting through those enemy warriors.

It seems the music is handled a bit weirdly. For example, when you start the game the menu music continues as you play, or after you meet a leader, their diplo music keeps going. Probably because the mod isn't pointing to any music that should be playing while using this civ. I'll look into it.

What I've been doing in the meantime, is just using winamp in the background to play all the .ogg files in the Music folder. :)

I'm having the same issue with all of my custom civs. I noticed that in the DLC version of Babylon there are multiple audioscripts/define xml files but I can't seem to get them running on my mods.

Hey, rated this as an A-

would be higher but the civ does not have 'flavours' atleast it does not appear to have them from the government diplomacy mod. This means it might be even worse and even less logical than the usual AI

would also be higher if the leader introduction (when you play as the civ) didn't simply skip all the tension building with an ect intsead of a full leader intro.

Obviously this is beyond your control, but it is also pretty confusing to have ramses (no idea how to spell his name) as the leader.

Edit:

Oh, I just saw your reasons for doing the above.

He he.

Anyway, the leader flavours should actually be working. I modded them all in so that in theory Hammurabi should behave as an AI identically to how Nebz would. What do you mean they appear to not work based on the government diplomacy mod?

I'm calling this a barebones mod because I haven't been arsed doing all the historical discriptions and so forth. It's just there for the raw gameplay changes which is all that some people, including myself, care about anyway. If anyone wants to contribute to polishing the mod to a higher standard, I won't knock it back.
