You know the score - tickly throat, coughing, runny nose, I may be coming down with a case of the man-flu. As we all know this will inevitably lead to pain worse than childbirth and debilitating sickness.

Any known man-flu remedies? I'm thinking having a lot of beer to dull the pain. I'm already taking Ibuprofen.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Can you get NeoCitran or is that a Canadian thing? That always works well on me.

Well, it's pretty easy to pick something up with the same active meds, regardless of location:

Acetaminophen: used to relieve mild to moderate pain, reduce fever, headache, body aches and pains, sore throat, chills.
Chlorpheniramine / Pheniramine: are antihistamines that help to relieve red, itchy, watery eyes; sneezing; and sinuses caused by allergies, hay fever, and the common cold.
Dextromethorphan: used to help relieve coughs due to colds.
Phenylephrine and Pseudoephedrine: used for the temporary relief of congestion or stuffiness in the nose and sinuses caused by allergies, hay fever, and the common cold.
Diphenhydramine: an antihistamine. Helps relieve red, irritated, itchy, watery eyes; sneezing; and runny nose caused by hay fever, allergies, and the common cold. It is also used to help relieve coughing due to colds, minor throat or airway irritation.
Guaifenesin: thins the mucus in the lungs and bronchial air passages and makes it easier to cough up the mucus and clear the airways, allowing you to breathe more easily.

We call that Lemsip here. Tastes horrible! I've been going for lots of cups of tea so far.

Lockets for the throat irritation, cups of tea and glasses of orange juice will help the thirst and a big armchair, fluffy blanket and a DVD boxed set will do for the tiredness and aching limbs. :D

My mum would recommend chopping up an onion and stuffing it into your socks when you go to bed. Woolly socks preferably.

I don't expect for one minute it would work, but it would be amusing if you tried :D

Mate, I think I've got cancer. Like, lung cancer or something. I'm coughing constantly and my nose is blocked, it's like someone's trying to drown me in mucus. Yeah it definitely feels like cancer. Definitely cancer.

Well that's a relief Mise, it could be man-flu, and everyone knows that's worse than any other illness.

It's definitely cancer.

I work in an office of 20 men and 1 woman, which is normally really, really sucky, but when you have man-flu it rocks, cos they literally encourage you to take sick leave so that no-one else gets sick! I took Tuesday off work cos I had man flu and couldn't be arsed to come in, and when I went into work this morning, they were all like, "ffs why didn't you just stay at home a few more days! Now I'm gonna get sick as well!"

Women are immune to man-flu though.

My solution to the flu is to wake up, drink, take sleeping pills, go back to sleep.

The only way foward is sofa and duvet, hot-toddies, bad sci-fi of choice and a hot curry. A hot bath and lighting a real fire would figure in a perfect world.

I have a tasty (and greasy) home made lasagne to finish off, so no curry tonight.

We almost think as one on this. We must be real men! :)

Just make sure it's £10 minimum-delivery-fee chemo or bells, lemon and honey chemo.
