Hey y'all, you may remember I requested youtube tags about a year before we got them, so I'm clearly the go to person for the Next Big Thing :mischief:

Embedded soundcloud tags would serve our modding community. Soundcloud is the "best" audio upload/flash player on the internet, and for the modding community it would be a really easy way to share sound effects, scoring, etc without forcing the user to download the file and then load an mp3 player. It would also have some minor effects for OT's music sharing community, as it would be easier to share indie music which is kind of the point of sharing with strangers--everyone knows the mainstream stuff on youtube already.

Thanks KD

If it doesn't play automatically/play if your mouse hoves over it but rather when you actually press something i'm fine with it.

yeah you have to click something

Never heard of it. More info?
The music making community finally agreed on a uniform format to present their works via soundcloud. Like a lot of web winners, its a very clean, simple, ad-free interface (like google to search engines, and the old facebook to social media) Basically with a free account there you can upload up to two hours worth of material of any sound quality that can then be streamed via this really friendly, browser embedded flash player. The flash player displays the waveform of the file.

It's inobtrusive and increases the amount of traffic that file will get.

While the modding community probably doesn't know about this resource, with an civfanatics embed feature and a little education, it'd be popular for sound effects and scoring for mods. Soon rather than downloading a zip file of a bunch of mp3s or an awkward youtube video, there could just be a soundcloud wavebar.

Here's an example of me on another forum getting criticism for a work in progress by using the soundcloud embed. Forgive the bad hairdo and the differing forum culture :p http://djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258291 As you can see, it's all very comfortable and the other participants don't have to follow a link but can interact with the media right there in a thread, just as embedding a picture allows.

Bit OT but i do like the song and mostly agree with that 'adsam'. Started of a bit too high pitched for my liking but i agree with him about the 2.20 thing, could perhaps have the main beat go slower when the 'death' part comes in to it. Reminded me of this song; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQi8wEHMm5Y but a remix of it which for the life of me I can no longer find!

Anyways apologies for the skirt of the topic i quite like the idea if only for being able to put this in the what song are we listening to threads.

Sweetness! I haven't popped into the mod community in a while but it seems like the more professional ones make or borrow :mischief: their own sound effects. If I were trying to show off a unit I made or a mod I made, I'd string all the sound effects into one file, plop it onto soundcloud, and then embed it into my post. Whether or not the mod community actually takes to it is another matter...

edit: thanks for the feedback BCLG100, much appreciated... only linked to my own thread because it was the first example that came to mind... didn't exactly mean to turn this into a thread about me or my music  sorry about that

Yeah, mostly. But when the sound effects are embedded into the mod files, you'd still host that data on rapidshare or whatever.
