welcome to the Next Role Play Challenge, The Next Generation where I play as a non-52 CIV leader with our own specific rules and goals. These games are meant to be fun and educational, usually with an entertaining or historic twist.

In this case I take aim at one of the new Civilization 5 leaders, Askia of the Songhai. Frankly I am not impressed with CIV 5 (hell if I was why would I play Civ IV RPCS!) but very much like the idea of the desert warrior!

In fact, ASkia has no great love for Civilization 5 either, thus his appearance here! He has bailed ship, taken over the week and money obsessed Mansa'a role, and looks to run his river-warriors all over the world! However, Askia is no man of class or culture, he is a brutal man using simple means to get reach his goals. And that goal to take what he wants, which is no less than the world!

Game setup

Earth-Map, the 34 leader variant.

We are playing as Mansa Musa, thus we have his UU/UB and financial/spiritual. Askia needs no petty warrior traits to make war.

On this scenario every starts with 2 warrior and a worker. I deleted one warrior and the worker.

Difficulty is Emperor and speed is Epic.

All victory conditions are available.

RULES!

1) Askia MUST win by Conquest only. He may vassal as many or as few as he wishes.

2) He must adopt proper warring civics. He also is not interested in anything high-brow like representation/universal sufferage/Bureacracy/Free Speech/Emancipation.

3) He prefers to head towards only military techs but will research techs for the economy as he sees fit.

So onto our leader

And for those of you NOT familiar with the earth map

Askia is rather limited on military resources.

So how to start, where to settle, and what to research? Askia has mining and the wheel. I say we do the hunting/archery thing and take a few skirmisheers to Egypt.

PS: You need the 40 civ mod to run the save. Sorry, I have no idea how I got it, but I am sure some RPC fan will help poor old MAD out.

Mad - You probably played a forum game some gent posted a while back. I forget exactly what it was - England maybe - but I played it too. I also added BUG to the mod back then and it appears that your file works for me since you appear to have BUG working too. I'm not sure if this will cause issues for folks if BUG is not added to the mod. I think it was v4.2 at the time. I recall adding BUG was very easy - just copy the assets over, but not sure if the version will be an issue.

So the only civics we can adopt are:

HR/Police State
Vassalage/Nationhood
Caste/Serf/Slavery
Any Econ civic i guess
Theocracy

Thanks for telling me what I did :crazyeye: !

Yes, those are the civics although I think I can do OR before theocracy.

Any Economy? COMMIE ECONOMY!!! :D

Hmm looks like E34 has a much better Songhi start than E18's Mali start. I would like to see some Nelephant Rampages, but I guess a skirmisher rush on egypt could work. Mainanance might hurt though.

'Set the world on FIRE'

very very poor food and production

This sounds like an excellent game. Did you delete the extra worker and warrior from the other 33 civs, or just your own?

Just my own.

btw did you give AIs archery?

seeing the land going for egypt seems like good plan, with gold+gems+ivory nearby you have early hapiness that's great :-). stone in BFC too bad you can't do rep :-(, but no food for it anyway

relatively early Ironworking and expand into the Congo Valley ... for giggles :P

If you want to push the Role-Playing aspect further you have to found Gao as your capitol (Not Timbuktu.) 3W and 1S.
I don't know if that's such a good idea tough... :D :crazyeye:

No, the AIs do not have archery.

No, we are not settling to the west however I will name the first city Gao.

Starting in West Africa is enough of a handicap in this game.

Im not sure, but i think SE is a viable choice, plainfield is better than desert...

I agree with lymond, poor lands...

Agriculture -> Pottery -> Animal Husbandry ----choose your self----> Iron working

1st Citi: Gao (of course)
2nd City: up north by the Iron, Wine and Ivory

1st Target: Carthage: Not the best city, but a very nice vantagepoint to invade "Mare nostrum"
2nd Target: Spain and Europe route: Needs Sailing but: loads of Rescources, lots of Civs to have traderoutes with and Spain might have religion to spread and PROFIT!! OR Egypt and Mesopotamia route: 1 word: Cottages and lots of them... some rescources, no need for boats and so on...

South Africa issnt worth much unfortunately...

God, this is gonna be SO GOOD!!!

Well, no surprise here :D
I've played the demo and after 100 turns it was like...:dubious:...SID, what have you done to us ?
Deeply disappointed about this lousy excuse for a new civilization experience, I started another cIV-Story after a long time in our forum and then there was this thought 'Didn't Mad say he would be playing ciV-RPCs ?'

And here you are, playing the one and only cIV again - love you for that one, man

Looks interesting. If someone could help find the mod, I may try to shadow it.

I'm thinking you may be in trouble with the civics restrictions, though. No emancipation will kill you with unhappiness in the late game, and you could certainly justify bureaucracy from a military point of view. Just saying...
