Elder Scrolls V: Oblivion Part 2?

Thought I'd start a thread since a 2010 Oblivion 5 based on the Fallout 3 engine is kind of eminent based on press tidbits.

The next Elder Scrolls game could be a direct sequel.

Bethesda is working on a chronological follow-up to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, according to a Eurogamer report. The game would directly follow the events of Oblivion, which Bethesda released back in 2006.

The report mentions overheard “fantasy-sounding phrases” that include references to a “Dragon Lord” and the Blades. The studio will purportedly be recording voice acting for the game’s characters in the coming weeks. Eurogamer says the game will run on a similar, but more powerful version of Fallout 3’s engine. The majority of Bethesda’s staff are said to be working on the project.
This is all particularly interesting because Bethesda’s Todd Howard said last year that there were no plans for an “Elder Scrolls 5” any time soon. Maybe this will be called Elder Scrolls IV-2?

Since each "Oblivion" seems to focus on a single Daedra plane, want to guess which plane "the dragon lord" suggests? I'm thinking it's the plane of the people's savior---e.g. the dragon demon that appeared when the emperor's son sacrificed himself. Guess the story line revolves around the flames that block the Daedra plane out?
 
Seems like it would be a continuity of the Oblivion storyline... Whose brilliant idea is this? The main storyline was one of the weak aspects of Oblivion to start with. They'd better make an actual Elder Scrolls game and not some sort of weak**** Oblivion Part II kind of thing like what Fallout New Vegas is to Fallout 3 (PS nothing against New Vegas).
 
Yeah I'm really hoping they don't make it Oblivion Part 2. And please for the love of gaming get a better engine! Metro, FEAR, Morrowind (from what I remember) and STALKER's graphics are so nice and crisp, Oblivion's are kind of rounded off and blunt.
 
I could see them actually salvaging the Oblivion storyline by continuing the keeping the Daedra out of Oblivion-land story. That might be giving it a little bit of depth since they have a baseline to add on to.

But I'd agree nothing was as kick-but as Sheogorrath's storyline.

And I'd be happier with game-play depth than more story-line.
M&B fighting game-play merged with Oblivion plus more sandbox rpging would be a better attraction.

And playing Elder Scrolls is like oblivion, no?! :mad: (ok I erred).

Thread title: The Oblivion the Fifth thread, indicates that this is the 5 Oblivion game. However Oblivion is the fourth game in The Elder Scrolls series.

Chukchi's correctly points out that this will be the fifth game in The Elder Scrolls series, not the fifth Oblivion game and that you can all go suck it.

Bethesda Softworks are currently making the next game in the Elder Scrolls series, Eurogamer Denmark found out today.

On an air plane trip today one of our editorial staff, by an unlikely coincidence, sat behind a person involved in the game project.

He not only confirmed the role playing game's current production, but also spoke briefly about the content - that it includes fantasy inciting words like Dragon Lord, something with Blades, and that the voice acting for the characters in the game is taking place these weeks.

The same source confirmed with official game documents in hand, that this will be a direct continuation to The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, which is the latest game in the now 16 years old Elder Scrolls saga and of itself one of the better RPGs for PC and consoles of the latest years.

We just convey what we've seen and heard, and respecting of course, that there is an NDA agreement for all involved, why we have chosen not to clarify details about either the geographic details of the fly trip, the writer in question or the identity of the source of these sparse first facts about the game.

But the sequel to Oblivion comes, we can confirm without hesitation.

I agree. Dragon Age is interesting and all, but all you do is follow the story and that's it. When it ends, it's over AND you can't do anything in between anyhow. What I miss is that beauty of Oblivion, where I could play half a day exploring the woods, ruins, caverns without completing a single quest! You know game-play depth, like you said sandbox rpging.

Damn I remember playing oblivion for the whole summer when I first got it!
Dragon Age lasted a whole amazing week. :( 2 weeks if you count my constant "restarting a new game with another class or simply different hair color" to create a perfect character that I'm truly satisfied with.

I keep waiting for something like Oblivion to come out... and waiting... and waiting. :(
 
Its like the next Batman film. There are so many rumors about the next Elder Scrolls over the past few years and yet none will probably end up being true.
 
I loved Oblivion and Fallout 3 (and NV) but their game engine seems old and tired. Especially in New Vegas, it's showing its age. I've never seen so many graphics glitches in a console game before. Really obvious ones too, not nitpicky things like floating items. I mean things like, entire mountains and buildings flashing in and out of existence before your eyes or wall textures colliding with one another (i.e. flashing walls). Maybe that's not an engine problem though? Also for using the first person perspective, the controls always seemed less "exact" than FPS games I am familiar with, at least on a console.

I assume using a new engine or something is a huge laborious process that they don't have the time or inclination of doing?
 
Yes the engine is old and tired. I doubt they will try to rush another game with that engine after New Vegas. If would be stupid of them to do so, but who knows.

Not that I believe these rumors, but I gotta admit that if they will do Oblivion IV-2, I won't complain.
