Please use this thread to ask for help or tech support for Kilkakon's Lost Eden total conversion mod for Alien Crossfire. Also use this thread for for comments or suggestions about the mod. Thanks!

I've downloaded it but unfortunately I haven't been able to get it to work yet. Perhaps I've installed it wrong, but when I start a game I get an error message named "Rules Parser"? It says that it can't find something and advises me to re-install the game.

What is probably the problem is that the game is trying to load the original factions but can't as there are technologies missing. I had originally tried to overwrite the original factions but for some reason those changes never carried over into my Lost Eden project directory.

There's a fix for this problem: Go into your Alpha Centauri.ini and manually replace all factions at the bottom with "LIGHT". This'll make all factions a Lost Eden one and then you can change them ingame.

Seems a bit awkward doesn't it? People would be able to play using default factions if I include them, which could break the balance/enjoyment of the game, but if I don't their games may crash! Not sure if there is a better solution there.

I got the same error message as JH24 and your suggestion fixed the problem. This is a serious problem that you need to fix. I suggest that you modify the readme file to include something like "If you get a Rules Parser error when starting the game, then ... . " (Add in additional info here). Couldn't the user also simply rename their existing alpha centauri.ini file and let a new one be created? Finally, if the player makes a clean installation (instead of copying the files, as I did), then the error won't occur, right?

The above excerpts come from the development thread.

Thanks for the new thread Petek. Got to keep things organised!

As for the afore mentioned faction problem, it does not occur on a clean install (hence that being my main suggestion for installing the mod). I have updated the help files with information about the problem just in case anybody misses the posts here.

Sorry for my late reply. I re-installed Alpha Centauri (Alien Crossfire) (Sorry I didn't say in my previous post you've already mentioned this solution in your Readme file) and made a backup of it. One for Lost Eden and one with the standard rules.

The problems have been solved and it is fully working now. :) I have to finish some beta-reading for a friend but after that I'm going to start my first Lost Eden game. :) I promise to post my notes here very soon.

Ah, I should ask here. Does this require alien crossfire?

Never mind, I'll take this to the news thread.

What's with the genetellia?
'cough' EDEN 'cough'
(I guess.)

I find the theme refreshing. Pokemons with genitals is crazy enough to attract me.
Have seen many game mods, inspired by Tolkien, Vietnam, Master of Magic or other mainstream, pop-cultural fluffy nonsense, bleh. This is surely the first mod theme that is truly original. It's so absurd I feel intrigued to try it.

(Hehehe. Pokemon with genitals as the fallen Prince Oblivion. Hehe.)

And the poke-leaders represent some serious ideology. Like Matriarch Victoria:
Moderator Action: Link deleted per request
AGENDA: Female supremacy; sterilisation of males
...
+1 SUPPORT: All males are sent into combat as soon as they can stand
+1 MORALE: Survivors return home to life of breeding stallion--Matriarchs are practical!
:crazyeye: My favourite so far.

Hey Kyrub! Great to see people getting into the game. I have tried to make something unique, as you have said. I hope that the gameplay satifies your curiosity!

And finally, please edit your post and remove the direct link to the Vixen page. :) I'll PM Petek so he may get there first.

EDIT: Thanks Petek. :)

Kilkakon,

Regarding the Beta version 2: It appears that we have to redownload the entire mod just to get the update. Is that correct? Could you create a file with just the changes, which could then be copied over the existing installation? Thanks.
