Hi,

So I would like you to rate tactical AI after new patch. Firaxis mentioned it should be much improved. But what do they know? So am asking you dear players....

What bit of the AI tactics? War? Economy? Diplomacy? etc

They don't uselessly toss archery units away that much anymore.

That one is a improvement now. Before, elizabeth could have her longbowmen she had like plenty of them but they charge upto the frontline to get flanking bonus and then shoot at the enemy unit and they die in next turn instead of utilizing the hilleses and forests and rivers and its 3 range to shred the war chariots and longswordmen of egypt.

But now, AI don't do that anymore unless its a last resort measure. I've only played two games so far in the new patch soo yeah, haven't seen enough yet.

the ai is bad at attacking cities in fact, city states don't automatically roll over and die from a weak group of units sent from a empire to take it. They can protect them abit due to the buffed cities smacking the units sent to take it if they're insufficent that is. Although it helps to have u reinforce it, send units to assist it or whatever.

Even three pikemen will raise hell on musketmen attacking the city state cuz they can't afford anything messing it up now. But you gotta command the pikemen cuz they're fragile capisce.

I gave it a "slightly better", although I really did have my problems with that.

Still, the AI is happily throwing archer-type units at your melee front.
Defensive fire from redlined cities is concentrated upon full health ranged weapons, while "yellowed" enemy melee troops are near.
Coordination between units is still unknown.

It does very slightly better on city defense, though.

In total, I would say the skills have gone up from a 35 to a 39 (in a range of 1 - 100, with 100 being the best).

Whoever faces a challenge when fighting the AI (supposed comparable units/number of units in a given theatre) has some major problems with fighting.

Agreed ^

I had a game where the AI had one catapult and several other close quarter units trying to take an early city. While I was busy taking care of the other units, the catapult had at least three turns to completely fire on my city but, instead, the AI opted to keep moving it around (perhaps it couldn't figure out a good "spot" to fire from?).

P.S. I have noticed that the AI is less suicidal with archery units.

It's slightly better in that it doesn't uselessly move units around and tends to park units in more annoying locations, but much of the added difficulty comes from increased basic defenses, too.

I'd like to see the tactical AI stronger of course, but this isn't really a bad area for the game. The game has much higher priorities at this point.
