Been away for a bit...

If you didn't think it was good at release, you probably won't think so now. The last patch made it crash a lot less frequently for a lot of people, the AI *slightly* improved, some things were balanced out (power of horses for attacking cities), and diplomacy became a lot more transparent. It's still the same game though, and has issues to work through - good patch, but they need a few more good patches. If your main problems was stability though, you may well be in luck.

Hotfix coming up gonna solve all our problems...

I wrote a whole bunch of stuff, but thought it was too mean so I am just going to say "No, the patches have not improved my gameplay experience."

Orly?? Hotfix is going to make my game run smoother with no crashes?

Yeah I check everyday hoping there's some news but I am disappoint every time.

Hmm. Well, I have been persevering with civ V because I quite like some aspects of it. I am quite a patient person, happily going and making a cuppa to pass the time while the game loads, patiently staring out of the window or doing some little household task while the turn ends, etc etc. But my latest game, on a large map, got to the point where it was crashing every 4 or 5 turns and now (approximately 12 turns from a culture victory) simply will not play on. I've tried loading an earlier autosave to see if it will play differently and avoid whatever is causing the crash, but no joy.

Very, very dispiriting to have a problem so severe that the game will not continue on reload and I don't think I'll be playing another game for a while, if at all.

Anyway, an old friend from here suggested that I try Civ IV with the Rhye's and Fall Mod for a bit of a challenge and I loaded it yesterday evening. Not at all bothered by the return to "inferior" Civ IV graphics, they are fine - in fact, in some respects, they are preferable. The game loads so quickly too! Turn ends are done in a trice. I *did* forget that catapults don't bombard in IV hem hem but otherwise, honestly? It's a joy to be back ... and the Mod is jolly entertaining too :)

Minor improvements.

Ive put civ5 away and will take another look at it once they sort multiplayer out and allow you to use mods in multi (and preferably pbem)

Is it still a hotfix if it was announced weeks ago?

In 2K-Land, I think the term refers to the size of the release, not the timing of the announcement. A hotfix typically is just a small patch that address one or a couple of specific problems. Calling it a patch would imply that it contains a lot of changes, IMO.

But who knows, this is 2K so it's really anyone's guess.
