HOTFIX RELEASE TODAY (19/01) and Nvidia Drivers

Is it a hotfix if it was announced weeks ago? Not just a 'fix' or patch?

Just got the patch through Steam. Of course there are no patch notes so I guess it's up to us to figure out what was fixed and what wasn't.

So yeah, crashes only, no specifics. No bug fixes or improvements or anything like that.

And no information about what might have caused the crashes. So, nobody can really identify if the patch DID solve the problem or not. :mischief:

1/19 and still no bug fixes, even for the ones they introduced before the holidays (not getting credit for building roads to CS for one). They suck...so bad.

Maybe or maybe they are putting a little more effort into QA so they don't cause more problems as they fix things. If it takes time, take the time.

Have the new hotfix. I can confirm it DOESNT fix the problem with crashing to desktop when loading leaderscreens (I know this isn't universal, but it affects me). Looks like back to 'minimum' for me. :sad:

I've only been playing for 20 mins.

I have had multiple SoundBlaster driver crashes that have hosed my drivers only after playing Civ5!
Maybe this fixes these? I have to uninstall and reinstall SB drivers/software after every time this driver crash happens! Quite annoying, happens about every 10th time I run the game.

Does your system met or exceed the min spec? Particularly your GPU. If not your not asking for a fix your asking them to re-engine the game to suit your system....something that is unlikely to happen.

Okay... The_J, Is this the real final place where we can all share our observations on some issues?

Cuz, for alpaca or others curious i might as well copy-paste the earlier comment (now, locked!) below;

Just got V1167 worth 32.5MBs of a smooth & quick D/L on my setup and after some thorough verifications (loaded a few saves, went for a couple of turns -- no problems yet!) here's the exact files changed by it;

Root Executables & DLLs as usual
GlobalDefines.xml
CIV5Traits.xml
CIV5UnitPromotions.xml
OnlinePanel.lua
VictoryProgress.lua (That actually fixed the previously missing SS-Parts secondary popup)
Upgrade1Textures.fpk (Spain/Inca fine-tuning probably)

So far, so good.

Mostly, all of the xml files edits above are related to the Embarks feature - btw.

Great through the first 99 turns. Not one crash. 4 crashes in last 12 turns. i7 920 GPU, 6GB RAM, GTs450 (Fermi) graphics card.

ARGH!!!!! I hate steam so much......

This "update" is 4616.5 MB according to my steam account. It's downloading the entire game again, when it's already installed!!! Why does everything have to be so difficult with this game and with steam... :-(

It was a 32.5 MB download for me, and I never had any update troubles with any of my 131 Steam games to date. I wonder if your installation was corrupted or if you modified any of the original files. This could cause a re-download. It's not really a common Steam issue, though.

9800GT. It's more than capable of loading the diplomacy screens - it's just sometimes it crashes straight to desktop other times artifacts will appear of the screen. It's very much the game as I see others complain in the forums with these issues and with => hardware.

I'm not asking them to 're-engine' the game to suite my system!?

Yeah I've had the same problem on my computer. The only way I figured how to get around it (and it's a sucky way) is that if you have a CD of CiV then you can uninstall then reinstall and it'll just download the patches. Of course this takes ages and you lose saves etc.

There must be a better way!!!

So, did this hotfix do any good at all?

In each of those locked threads, there was 1 person (IIRC) saying the hotfix did NOT fix their crashing issue.
