OK, I found out today that I'm going down South from Islip 2 days earlier than expected.

Here's the Weather forecast for Islip:

http://weather.yahoo.com/united-states/new-york/islip-2427900/

My flight is at noon on Wednesday.

Is it realistic to hope that my flight leaves on time. Or should I just not bother. And if there will definitely be a delay, for roughly how long?

There is more to it then how the weather is where you are leaving from.

I had to drive from Detroit because my flight was canceled. It was sunny in Detroit and Sunny in my Destination City. Problem was the flight crew was coming from JFK where the Airport was shut down. Therefore, my flight was canceled.

I wouldnt think that forecast alone is going to ground the plane though.

So true, but I'm not even bothering to think about the in-between stuff, and nothing going on in Ft. Lauderdale will do anything. I'm most worried about the weather in Islip.

Let's just hope it goes as scheduled.

Everyone seems to think it will go as planned. That's good. Then again, I'm never lucky.

A huge portion of the US is expecting a lot of winter storms so I would say that no, you shouldn't expect flights to be really on time, be prepared for delays. It's a very good point as others have mentioned that planes and crews can get caught up elsewhere even if the path from your airport to your destination would seem clear, especially as some major hubs for various airlines are going to be hit hard by the weather too.

Be prepared for delays no matter what, for me flights are chronically late.

For those who are saying "Late", how much so do you think? A couple hours or a couple days?

Also, remember I live on Long Island, the weather here is warmer than you'd expect somewhere this far north, in fact we aren't even supposed to get snow now (We are getting ice though.)

If the connecting flight does not come in, then you will not go out. While they are issuing waivers since many areas are under blizzard conditions, they do not want people "stacked" up in airports. It is best to call ahead or check online to see if your flight has been cancelled.

You can take your chance in that they will be shuffling around incoming passengers and outgoing passengers with different planes that are available to be redirected. There may possibly be an opening somewhere.

If your flight originates from where you are taking off from, the only thing that will make it late is how many incoming connecting passengers where going to be outbound on it and if it is full enough to warrent a flight. If all the passengers start at your airport and the plane originates there, then you are good to go, unless the flight path has been congested by rerouted planes.:mischief:

I hate to say it, but you're probably screwed. Be prepared for your flights to be significantly delayed or cancelled altogether.

And are you really making your own decisions about which flights you take, and when, and where? You're 15, just do what your parents tell you.

16, but no, my parents scheduled the flight, I was just curious if you guys thought it would be cancelled, since my parents have no idea.

There's really no way to say, and not much point in random no-nothing internet people trying to guess.

Make contingency plans, call ahead to let people know that you might be very, very late (so they can check the arrivals from home rather than trek to the airport and wait there for hours), pack sandwiches and entertainment for a long stay at the airport, bring extra spare cash with you, that sort of thing.
