"Unable to allocate draw buffer." Has anyone esle had this error occur? It is happing so much right now I am thinking about re-installing.

Right now I am st the year 2005 and have an military of 170+ and I am involved in a massive land war with the Russians.

I can only go about 2 or 3 turns before it crashes, and that is just the Civ 3, I havent even installed PTW yet.

Has this happend to anyone else or is it my computer.

no, not even on my old, basic PC that i throw away a few months ago, litrally throw. i would re-install

Sounds like a memory issue, ACR.

How much memory do you have? I have 256M, and haven't seen this.

When is the last time the computer was rebooted? SOme of us are up 24/7, and only reboot when we have to. Windows is notorious for memory leaks, so it could be that all of your memory is "used up", and a reboot is necessary to clear it out.

I had that problem when I first got civ3 (man was I pissed :) ) anyway what I did (dont know if it will work but....) was that I got tha patch and the latest driver for my video-card. Hope it will work but like I said....Im not sure :)

Memory is at least 128 but I think I have 256.

Do you have a scanner?
I had this problem when I got the game.
The Optical Character Recognition (ocraware) was causing the problem.
Do a Ctrl-Alt-Del, and choose ocraware, end task.
Hopefully this solves the problem.

You may have viruse bogging down your machine, does it seem slow in general?

I keep the virus def updated and nothing has shown up on the scans so I presume it is not a virus.

 As I am not wholely computer literate on some of the more techincal aspects, can I down load the driver for the vid-card or do I need to purchase? If I can download, does the download come from the vid-card manufacturer of is this information included in MS updates?

Additionally, computer is not on 24/7. I have reinstalled and the problem has popped up again.

You can dowload (for free) the driver from your video-card manufacturer yes.

Thank you for your response.

Not a bump but I have this trouble with same thing on m really good machine at year 2011.
There are too many units, land improovements and so on on a map. And I added to game over 150-200 new units. The game crashes when I try to select some more units or build some in city. Looks like it caused not by software or side-process, but a mass of different units under my control. Some hundred or thousands... Game cannot draw them all I think...

Using 1.22f C3C

Well I have had many battles with 900 or more in one stack on the AI. You may want to ask about this in the creation forum and see if they can offer anything.

I look through over 10 or 12 different sites. My trouble is not fonts or Dx9.0c
Maybe it is because I command over thousand DIFFERENT units?
Thank you, I will ask there.
