Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

[size=+1](*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
  • Victory Condition: Domination (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
  • Difficulty: Chieftain
  • Starting Era: Ancient
  • Map Size: Standard
  • Map Type: Pangaea
  • Speed: Quick
  • Required: Raging Barbarians, No Tribal Villages
  • Must Not Be Checked: No Barbarians, One City Challenge
  • Civ: Mongolia
  • Opponents: Any
  • Version: 2.13.004 or 3.19.003
  • Date: 25th February to 10th March 2011
Must not play as Inca.

The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

Question of the day... will it make sense to tech to Keshiks? Gers make it even more tempting. I'm guessing chariots will be sufficient, but with quick speed, they might be stretched.

Presumably you can't play this on vanilla because you can't turn huts off.

Is it better for early dates to play on warlords? I can see lack of whipping from AI as advantageous.

first try, 1340 AD
I guess the_hawk will be 2000 years earlier, but at least I made it

first impressions :
- building settlers earlier is certainly worth it :-(, AIs don't build enough cities
- barbs are painful even on chieftain

I didn't know this .

I vaguely recall that the different versions have different timelines... i.e. number of turns to get to a certain date, but I can never recall which is better. I'm playing BtS mostly because I like Buffy so much better.

 Not quite, but I have submitted 80AD. I'm guessing the winning time will be 200 BC or so.

Yes, some settler spam is required for sure. Make sure you start with max AIs. I have not had significant barb trouble. In both of my games I let an AI build the GW and then captured it.

Max AI and warlords seems the best bet for this.

I think you might be right. My 80 AD game was turn 78 in BtS. I looked back at an old log from a Warlords quick game, the 78th turn was 20 BC.

90BC

Using Warlords:mischief:
Odd game. Had to do it mostly with Axemen, but excellent placement, and insanely lucky with battles.

An interesting game might be run using mostly GAs as they add around 8% of land.
I had 65% in the end. 10% more than I needed.

Uh oh, its going to come down to score for tie breaker. I submitted a 90 BC game last weekend. My score was 33251.

Might just have to try again.

OK, knocked off a turn. Just submitted 125 BC. This can be improved, I was still a little slow building settlers. Might try one more tomorrow.

There is no Mongols in Vanilla anyway, right? I haven't played Vanilla in years.

So, Imperialistic Ghengis versus Creative Kublai...I feel GK has the edge, no?

Wrong, both Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan were introduced in Vanilla. In Vanilla, Genghis Khan is Expansive rather than Imperialistic (WL). Doesn't seem that long ago.

However, Vanilla can't be used in this Gauntlet, because it is not possible to turn of those game breaking "Tribal Villages" in Vanilla.

I did Kublai in Warlords. I wanted the border pops from Creative. With the late settlers, I was mostly whipping and chopping, but low priced settlers might be better. I really was ready to flip a coin on this.

160 BC at about 50000
If you beat me, don't tell me, I've had about enough of this game:crazyeye:

at least i have highest scored :D
