I'm thinking about doing some more Civ 4 Improvements conversion packs (See my Wood Elf Pack here).

The packs I'm considering converting are all made by Walter Hawkwood and are conversions for Civ 4 from other games (Kohan 2 and Anno 1404).

Please vote on what you would like me to do first and I'll convert the most popular ones first. You can vote for more than one set and the poll has no time limit. They are all fantasy sets except the Middle Eastern buildings pack, although some of the fantasy buildings could probably be used for non-fantasy purposes.

All conversions will include normal civ 3 background and Kyriakos background versions.

Kyriakos background

There are other Walter Harkward packs that I might do later after all of these are finished. Specifically he has some non-fantasy packs from other games. I want to mainly focus on the fantasy stuff first though. Note that 12 of the undead buildings were already done by mrt here

Here are the options:

1. Middle Eastern building pack

2. Drauga

3. Shadow

4. Undead

Shadow is just cool, plus I have a mana siphon growing in my neighborhood.

I like the shadow too, though I have no use for it at the moment. I suspect it would be one of the harder ones for me to do. With my simplistic cut 'n' past method it can be a little hard to maintain the glow effects.

At the moment I open the files up in NifScope then take a screenshot when I have positioned them in a roughly isometric manner. Then I get rid of the black background, scale them down and cut 'n' past to appropriate backgrounds.

I'm also going to try and make some city sets out of these buildings. They won't look like much compared with more professionally produced city sets such as Kyriakos', Ogedai's and RedAlert's, but they might be passable.

And the Islamic buildings pack is almost done. Will post it later today or tomorrow after I test them in-game. Just 3 more houses to convert.

I'm glad you've done the middle-east set. I'd eyed out these buildings (converted by Walter Hawkwind I believe) and was thinking of converting them for my mod when I got time, but you've beaten me to it - so thanks!!

No problem, Rob. As soon as I saw this latest pack from Walter Hawkwood I felt inspired to do some more conversions. It's taken me a while to find the time to do them though. There are a lot more great Civ 4 buildings I'd like to do if I manage finish all these sets.

I'm just finishing the middle east houses now and they are really interesting models. They look interesting and quite different from different angles. Each house could probably provide 3 or 4 different Civ 3 improvements if I do them from different angles. I'll just do one of each house at for now though as there probably isn't that great a need for that many non-specific Islamic buildings but if anyone has a need just let me know and I'll do the houses from different angles.

I must find some time to play your demo, Rob. Next to fantasy, Ancient mods and scenarios are my favourites to play.

I'd like to put in a special request (if I may) for the Human Bank. It's the best / most iconic-looking example of a building to use for a pre-industrial Bank that I've seen.

:) ,

Oz

Sure, Oz. The human set seems to be the next most popular anyway so I'll do that next. I'll do the bank first though and release it individually.

If anyone else has a need for any single building here I can do it straight away as it doesn't take very long to do just one building.

The Islamic set is finished. I just need to test it in game when I get home tonight then I can post it.

As I've said before -- You, Sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

So you've got a way to vary your cities both between sizes & eras.

Yes, quite a lot of variation would be possible. My attempts so far haven't looked very good though. Also at civ scale most of the detail is lost so the variation might not be very noticable. I'll keep trying though. Making the cities 1.5 size should help show more variation and detail.

Learned it from trying to make small tech icons that looked as good as the large. It does take some experimentation. One trick I learned is that sometimes making things a little garish, reducing and then toning down the saturation/contrast/whatever gets a good result.
