I'm working on this scenario and it is on a massive world map. it only has around 20 civs but theres a lot of units. but when i play it, the wait time in between turns takes forever!!! any suggestions?

As Tom suggested, disable Air and Sea trading for Harbors or/and Airports. Disable or limit tech trading.

awsome. i tried it and the IBT is alot more bearable now. thanks! if anybody has anything else please post.

If the map has a lot of barbarians, that will slow it down as well, especially if they are set to Raging. Sedentary or Roaming will run faster, but No Barbarians probably would be best given the 20 Civs in the game.

Another thing that I am experimenting with is restricting Air Trade routs, but allowing Sea Trade routes. The Sea trade routes do not seem to slow the game up that much, and I build a LOT of harbors on my huge and larger continent and archipelago maps. Not all cities get built on the coast, and those routes once in place are fixed. What I am experimenting with is limiting the Airport to cities with a Commercial Dock and then requiring 3 to 5 harbors for a Commercial Dock. That should drastically cut down on the number of Airports built, but still allow for some Air Trade.

nice. thats awesome. as my map has pre-placed cities and improvements it wouldnt do a whole lot but thats great. :goodjob:

The thing is; once 3 to 5 harbors are built, you can build commercial docks everywhere... (within limits of other requirements).. It would be nice if it could be made only 1 commercial dock for every 3 to 5 harbors built. It would, though, postpone for a short while the onslaught of commercial docks, which would postpone airports also; but probably not by much.

So a player eventually could still build airports in every harbor city.

If your map has preplaced cities and improvements, that makes it a bit simpler to retrict the number of cities with air trade activated.

If you have not used up the 32 maximum combined strategic and luxury resources, you can create a special resource, call it Airport Resource, and require that to be present within the city radius for an Airport to be built. The resource may have no other benefit (I might give it one gold for airport tax revenue), it only allows you to have an airport in that city. Then decide what cities should have the airport allowed, and place the resource there. If you have used up the 32 strategic and luxury resources allowed, then either use one of the available resources, say aluminum, and require that to be within the city limits, or go to a combination of two resources needed within the city limits. That should quite effectively limit the number of cities with air trade activated.

You can do the same thing with harbors to limit the number of cities with water trade, although that would depend on the type of map that you are using. On a Pangeae map, that probably would not be an issue, but on a continent or archipelago map, you might want to allow harbors as needed, without a resource required.

Lastly, with respect to air trade, you could also create several Small Wonders, available with either Flight or maybe Advanced Flight, and have only them allow air trade to take place. Call them say, O'Hare, LAX, Heathrow, Dulles, Kennedy, Midway, Mitchell, etc., and then you can place them where desired or have the option of building them where you discover that you need them.

I hope that this is some assistance to you.

yeah. thats great. i ended up just removing air trade completely, and leaving sea trade with harbors. as its a map of Earth. I may impliment the resources idea as well later on if i see a need. This is some great stuff thanks a ton!

If it is a map of Earth, then another option is to require the airport to be built in only a city with a palace, which would limit every civilization to one airport and really lock in the air trade routes.

Thats a real good idea. although id like to still have alot of airports to be able to airlift units to other parts of the world and such. i guess i could just put airfields around the map...
