Welcome! This will be my next story. I realized that I dont have the time for anything interactive, so this will be a plain old story :(

Anyway, I am playing as the Norse/Vikings on RFC Europe. I think this is my first time playing this particular civ on this mod/scenario, so I dont really know what exactly is good, so I will be simply charging into this. This will be written from a historical encyclopedic perspective, so yeah.

I will just put up what I have now, its short, but you guys have been waiting long enough so this should help. This is not historically accurate at all, I know very little of RLNorse history. Just so you know, anything thats part of the story will be in Book Antiqua (except this sentence).

The Norse people had long lived, farmed, fished, and shepherded in the hills and coasts of Scandinavia. There were many tribes of Norse people by 780 AD, the year that Olaf Hadrada came to power in the small chiefdom of Helsinborg in Sweden.

Olaf Hadrada was a good leader and a good military commander as well. He was born to noble blood, and according to records, his father Harald Hadrada had ruled the Helsinborg Chiefdom from 757 to 780. Harald Hadrada was known as the Great Warlord by the local tribes in the region, as he had conquered and effectively vassalized thirty tribes along the Swedish coast. He was planning a conquest of the tribes in eastern Sweden when he was murdered in 780. His eldest (and only surviving) son Olaf Hadrada, who was 37 at the time, was unanimously elected chief by the Helsinborg Tribal Council, according to the Saga of Olaf, the source for much of what we know about his life.

Olaf was more civilized that Harald, according to the Saga. He wanted to make Helsinborg a city, much like the cities of the fabled lands of "Greakas" and "Roma", which came from tales spread by traders coming from the South. Olaf wasnt sure if these tales were true, but nevertheless, in 784 AD he had himself crowned the first King of the Norse people, the day after the night he had a dream that Odin himself had chosen him to unite and command the Norse people.

Olaf's influence began to spread beyond Helsinborg. The Swedish tribes in the areas around the old chiefdom slowly began to pledge alleigence to King Olaf in exchange for protection. And protection from the warlike tribes to the East was vital for survival. Across the waters, in a land called Denmark, there was little but war between the Norse tribes. Four years after he had been crowned, Olaf visited Denmark. Most of the tribes in eastern Denmark instantly dropped their weapons and decided that civilization was better than being in fear of being killed. The most powerful chiefdom in the region, Hedeby, tried to hold its independence but soon realized that Olaf had brought with him an army larger than the total army of the entire chiefdom. So, by the end of 788 AD, Denmark was under Olaf's control.

Shortly after the Danes had joined Olaf's new empire, another group of Norse had heard of his rising power. Far to the North, in a land called Norway, the people there were even more uncivilized then the Danes had been. Olaf sent out some traders to convince the Norweigians that joining him was the best choice. When the traders came back with nothing, Olaf and his army traveled to the most powerful village in Norway, known as Tonsberg, and "convinced" the Norweigians to join Olaf. It took a while, but by the beginning of 789, Norway was under Olaf's "protection".

789 AD. Olaf looked out from the beach at Helsinborg and saw the sea. He could never know what would become of the empire he had founded, only that is was now prospering. There was a settlement of Germanics he had heard of to the south. They would make good pickings for the Norse...

There you have it. Comments, suggestions?
