Greetings, Immortals and would-be Immortals (and indeed any other players of any level), and welcome to the Immortal University.

Here is our Leader:

Here's the opening scene:

This is the first start I rolled, Huts and Events are, as always, conspicuous by their absence. Lakes Map Script.

Before we start, here's the copy & paste bit where I get to pretend that I'm TMIT:

To play, just extract the WB save file into your worldbuilder saves directory, then play it. Use custom scenario if you want some extra settings to tickle your fancy. This series was designed for people learning immortal, so most people here will be at that level or trying to attain it, although deity players are welcome also. Hell, if you want to play this on NOBLE, go ahead, but I'm not peeling off the AI bonuses. The intention of this and any other game thread I post is to get better. Play whatever level you need in order to improve. Just remember, there are immortal bonuses and that's not going to change unless you WB edit it.

If you are aspiring IMM+, try to remember to add archery back to the barbs in WB. Every time you don't, a deity AI will kill a kitten, although there are a lot of kittens so it's not the end of the world if you prefer easymode barbs .

I do request people to list their difficulty and speed. In terms of updates, well nobody follows that anyway. Post in the manner you feel comfortable. Typical comparison dates are 1 AD, liberalism, and victory/defeat, as well as any major events. If in doubt, go with that.

We also have an initial Immortal/Normal autosave which is much more convenient since you can avoid all the worldbuilder shenanigans. It comes with my personal seal of approval (not least as my worldbuilder edits may contain hideous game-destroying errors that could cause your computer to explode).

Thanks to an Old NC game for the leader SS as i forgot to do one :). Just did a random leader for the game :)

Ahh just realised the WB save, i've not set the playable civs so will sort that out now

So hold on dling that for afew mins :)

Replaced the WB save with a fixed one :)

Tropical eh? Well I'm in. Hopefully it goes better than the last one. (lost by a hair because Zara had four sources of uranium)

Very very mild
Spoiler :
The governor will cost you three beakers in the opening!

Lurker mode: engaged. :)

Does anybody use the trick where you build something until size two, switch to worker, all while researching bw, and whipping your worker out right away? I love that trick with Sury, though I guess there aren't enough trees for it to be worthwhile.

Btw, you hadn't mentioned Sury's starting techs. I think it's Mining and Mysticism?

did you place more civs then usual in? lakes script is a lot of land.

start is nice even if lacking a bit production I would still opt for SIP.

No, I was going to drop to a small size but forgot to do it. So it will be easier to grab land in this game than a usual Immortal one.

I've been wanting to move up to immortal for a while now and figured I should try my hand at doing these games. But when I try to play this map, i automaticly win a conquest victory at 3560 BC, end game shows there's no other civilizations on the map. What am I doing wrong? Am I not supposed to play this using the scenario function? Did my file get corrupted?

Let me try it, I've probably mess it up and missed a begin unit somewhere or something and made them start without a settler

I've remade and uploaded a new WB save, i had the same problem so i messed up somewhere :p

*edit*

I even tested this one and it worked for me hehe

I'm joining the party, of course! :)
I'll delay my game by few days / a week to finish my Hatshepsut game.
And this time, I like the creative trait and the starting position! :D

aww, I missed my chance for my first immortal win? ;)

well, since you re-did it, did you add more civs or change the size?

I'll be interested to see how others proceed on this map. Immortal is a little beyond my skill level (and patience level). 560AD and here are my thoughts so far:
Spoiler :

1) we have some room, but the land sucked other than 4 core cities, so difficult to REX
2) because we have land available and northern tundra that won't be developed for a while, I built GWall. Judging by the number of barbs roaming my borders...I'm split 50/50 whether it was wise.
3) any game where Mansa has room to expand accelerates the tech curve too much...and I'm having difficulty keeping pace...even with quite a few trades
4) The religion spead is pretty bad on this one. The Confu block is strong and I'm risking imminent war staying in a religion. Will probably revert to no state soon.

560AD and I just capitulated Monty from a HA war. Yes, it was a late HA war...but it worked. Took his Jewish holy city, so that will help a bit. I don't see any choice here except to try to chain capitulate Charley and/or Sulei. I won't be able to keep tech pace with Mansa/Cyrus at this rate.

Seems like a tough draw.

Creative and expansive.. Fast library + fast granary and +2 culture and +2 health. And gold. Sounds like the start is going to be easy and fast.
I still havent finished one of the UR games (modern wars take so long..) so I'm not sure wether I'll have time to play this one or not, but I hope I'll have.

@ Cas
Spoiler :
I saw really only 3 good cities plus 3 so-so cities near the capital (I tend to underexpand to keep the tech rate high). Originally, I wanted to HA rush Monty, but decided to oracle CoL instead, then REX. I had 2 cities and was building settlers but had to emergency build the GW to deal with barbarian hordes (I only had warriors to defend with). Luckily, the GW got built 1080 BC (unusual since it normally is long gone by then). By that time it was too late to HA rush Monty (not enough production due to low city count and Monty having too many cities). So, my 3 cities HA rushed a network of 3 barb cities east of the capital to get my city count up to 6. I could win Lib race ~800 AD but am trying to Lib Astronomy so that date will end up a little later. Once observatories are up, I should be able to Cuirassir (spelling?) rush with no problem. Nobody has Education OR paper yet so I should be fine.

RE: your game; I think you would have been better off eliminating Monty. It makes the diplo much harder (him being Jewish). Also, you are correct, in that running Christianity this early is risky. You need workers badly from what I can see. Your city pop count is low (assumming lots of whips?) but I think you can definitely win from this position. My advice would be focus on tile improvements and economy/science buildings. Switch out of Christianity ASAP because you really need to get at least one of the AIs to pleased (for tech trades that aren't entirely unfair). Looking at the tech screen, winning the lib race is definitely possible.

Till 1560BC (T61):

Spoiler :

MC from the Oracle, just finished BW.

Mansa has Alpha so the plan is to get some trades started and then to expand further to the south with IW. I'll chop a forge to generate the GE for some wonder or maybe Machinery. Somewhat sloppy play, but the map looks nice so I should be all right from here.

Just started a new job, so i'm having less time to browse and play at moment. Hopefully i will get round to playing thou :)

@ Jester Fool

Spoiler :
I'd be interested to see a screenshot of your tech situation around the same timeframe ~500AD-800AD. Mansa is going nuts on the tech in my game and the lib race is most likely lost. I can tell by your comments that he is not at the same pace in your game...maybe that's due to different religion spread...not sure.

You're right that I'm lacking infrastructure and workers that I would normally have at this point, but that's because I went after HA war. And my cities are small because I was busy chopping rather than building farms. Again, the land sucks, so I chose smaller cities working good production tiles and running a couple of specialists. I ran Christianity/Theocracy to get flanking2 HA with 50% retreat odds.

Unfortunately, my Great People have been a priest-spy-priest. No early GS for an academy sucks.

I was able to build GW and Oracle->CoL, but Mansa got CoL ~1600BC (?) before I got Oracle. Again, ridiculous tech pace.

I'm about 800AD now, switched out of Christian to Confu and just capitulated Charle before he got to longbows.

Pacal is the next target if I can get knights before he gets pikes. I would prefer Cuirassier war, but that is too far off. Pacal will probably attack me before then, so I'd rather go on the offense.
