okay, so i decided to crawl back into Civ IV after some hiatus.

Well, nothing better than open game i guess

Settings:
Deity
Normal speed
Tectonics [prechecked map to avoid nonsense this script tends to generate].
Unrestricted leaders
Choose religions.

Starting position

Tad brown, so i would sorta like moving eastwards, but that lonely unforested plains are damn suspicious.

p.s. Small catch all AI is Zara Yaqob:) Just non ethiopian:) Names was changed and barbs given archery they lost in WBuilding. Maybe something else is missing, but i really hope not.
Also i gave map to check since deity tectonics can lead to early disaster. According to checker it is okay map, whatever that could mean.

Looks like you have some crazy production in that capital. Especially if there is metal or horse in the empty square. From what I understand of tectonics you probably have a mountain range to the south. I would SIP but than again I only move in about 1% of my games.

Code:
-Sir, we found some nations south and northwards.
-Bring their leaders in, we need....
-But, sir, they are your clones... their tribes decided you were
the only competent ruler arround here.
-Oh, damn it.

So let's start the crawling.

Settled in place. Popped scout from hut [poor thing got eaten by panther which i never saw].

Also popped map so ended having good scouting.

Spoiler :

civ4screenshot0001vw.jpg

civ4screenshot0002k.jpg

there is byzantine clone border in very top.

AH revealed horses - good. looks like that 2xgold place is absolute critical. The only question imho is either to build settler at size two or three, more inclined on being size three that jungle might meen some barb invasion forces.

Tech wise - Wheel [to make chariots]>Fishing [assuming that sweet spot does not go to someone].

Lurking interested in here.
If I can ask for a quick request: turn? population? tiles being worked? building order so far?
Just to get into your game a bit more. Thanks in advance. :)

By the way: cool avatar! :goodjob:
Did you draw it yourself? Or it was created by an artist or graphic designer for some commercial rpg, video game or fantasy book? Just wondering.

Oh great Soirana is back!! :nuke::nuke:  We'll soon have you playing SGOTM games again. I would love to see you start up a team. I am sure Yatta would join you. :)

As for Soirana's pic. I think it is of a male witch. Hard to make out the small pic.

Wiki bruja link

Cities?? Gold site? Fish/rice/horse near capital? Stone fish?? Can you block Justin?

Otherwise it is lots of mountain and jungle to fight over. The mountain might shield you a bit from the barbs.

Size 2 or 3 hmmm. Pends if you need to secure a city site earlier. Also if you can handle the barbs too. tough call.

Not really a deity player. Just a wanna be immortal (loser) for now.

I know what a bruja is! ;)
I'm the European one here! :p
(edit: ooops, sorry, my bad, UK, you too! //edit)

And I think she's female:

I like gothic fantasy art, and I envy (in a good way :)) who is skilled drawing (I'm definitely not).

I already researched the picture, and find it in various blogs, but without specific copyright notes.

I was wondering if it was Soriana's drawing or a commercial art. :)

it is commercial art. Some spanish guy, used to have series of drawings just can't locate it anymore....

Tiles worked - corn:)
Build worker>warrior [started]
Techs hunting>AH

I would love to steal some land northwards, but main thing is blocking Khmer and having double gold is.... well unfair i guess from mine side.

jungle.... jungle has gems. There is potentialy city which can take both gems on one side i believe.

You don't need to be a deity player to play a SGOTM game. ;)

Good find on the pic. Bruja is defined as a male witch. This picture clearly has female traits judging by the clothes and the build. That being said modern day surgery can do mircles.

Double gems and rice would be nice. Gems are all on Jungle though so you would struggle on plains for a bit. Settling of the gold site will be key. You need to stop Khymers settling the sugar/banana/ fish city. So gold/banana in your initial ring?

The map appears to go further west/ south. Betting you will find a 3rd maybe 4th Ai at some point.

So crawled another 19 turns.

nothing superinteresting....

growed to size three, buitl settler, connected horse....

Also met two more Zara's clones. So far england, khmer, byzanthium and native america. later two made contact via workboats.

the only choice i think was tech affter fishing.... I went with writing....

Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0000e.jpg

Working uniproved makes me sad. Still iprefered to road horse instead of making camp on ivory. If barbs come calling for blood i like chariots more than extra one hammer, one commerce per turn.

Making second settler while still having one worker makes me sad also. It all depends on land northwards. I would need like ten turns to get lots of grassland and cow in south which might be still a chance. If my chariot sees byznthium showing settler in there i would switch to worker immediately.

some dotmaps:
Spoiler :

civ4screenshot0001.jpg

civ4screenshot0006pu.jpg

cowspot in upper south is likely just a dream. Rice, sheep/horse is very good city for pumping GS points and working capitol cottages still not a place i would build settler before havin enough worker force.

Blue spot has all potential in the world, but needs calendar and tone of worker turns to dug up from jungle.

Let's hope poor fogbusters won't die to barbs

p.s. some afterthoughts. There is point of settling on banana, as sugar and 3 food center is as good as banana tile. Second gold would go to other city. Still think it is a bit greedy.

Techs ---- for one i have trilion of forest, for other cities are not too food rich and blocking will be decide before chopping is available anyway. With gold i am actually inclined to delay BW untill Alphabet.

Also that jungle in Sw... seen only khmer and bizaanthian units in it. If it is really is sort of peninsula, than i can call game won. Rest is more or less formality.

Wow! On turn 37!

Very interesting report so far, I'm back on lurking mode...

Oooops... I hope I didn't sound impolite or rude.
I was just pointing out about being a bit unsure about having myself the skills to team up with a deity player.
I already checked the website, I'll likely sign up to try a succession game, soon or later. :)

Ah... thanks for inviting me! :)

Not to argue with you, I really don't care about it. But if you care about getting it right :)
Spoiler :
At least as far as I know ;)

Bruja >> (female) witch
http://spanish.dictionary.com/translation/bruja?src=es&dst=en
(you maybe also translate sorceress to bruja)

Brujo >> (male) warlock
http://spanish.dictionary.com/translation/brujo?src=es&dst=en
(you maybe also translate sorcerer to brujo)

I believe the majority of Spanish nouns and adjectives ending in "o" have a male gender, and the majority of the ones ending in "a" have a female one. ;)

Ah... about miracles: hard to tell, but seems like not Adam's apple on her neck! :p
I think modern surgery couldn't fix that! :D

I don't mean to be pedantic. I'm just kidding around joking with you. :D
Please don't get offended by that! :)

Back on topic:

There is point of settling on banana, as sugar and 3 food center is as good as banana tile. Second gold would go to other city. Still think it is a bit greedy.
After reading a bit better about the plans for the next cities, I wonder now about your next city:

- the city close to the gold tiles is surely going to be the first one that is going to be settled, in order to block (so this is going to be the next city in any case, no matter of which one of the two options you chose for it)?; or

- it still have to be decided which will be the next city, so maybe you might also take into consideration to settle another of the dot-mapped cities first, depending also on your final decision on where you will settle the gold city?

In few words: besides the block advantage, you like that spot better than any other, or you prioritize settling there just because of its tactical position?

Generally speaking, what you consider being the best for a generic second city on deity?

If you get some time to answer, thanks in advance! :)

Depends on map:lol:

more seriously prority one is securing land. having enough good land and not getting declared by let say 1Ad is good chance at winning.

priority two is getting commerce going. As later goes i do recall USun settling like 15+ tiles away to get gold and rusten deciding finances ought to come from wineries in some games.

I mean that spot of 2x gold+2xfood[one under jungle but still]+block+not far away is sick. If i would have done map precehck myself i would have discarded it due to this site.

Maybe you should settle on the southern banana so you can block sury off without a border pop? That way you grab the extra fish, a sugar tile if you win the culture battle and you can backfill another city later with the other fish+gold.

Crawled tad further.

to turn 60, 1600 BC i guess.

thinking back teching to oracle and building it for something like Mc would probably been better. I mean i have both tech rate and hammers. Oh, well.
[Especially since forge is likely to bring to 2 happy citizens]

Went with original plan of writing>Alpha, drop slider after writing, make some cre libraries...

Techs at start of current turn:
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0000f.jpg

Swapped writing for sailing, writing for pottery and alpha for BW and archery. Good revenue from writing but not very good from alpha i guess. still chance of Zara's clones teching Alpha themseleves is quite high and i can't really live without BW much longer. All that forest being unchopped makes me .
Also i rather trade now before worst enemy nonsense begins.
[Although i roaded and opneed borders with northern neighbour, might be very stupid of me.]

Guess this is actually pushing general tech rate up.
especially since next turn i need trade for IW [gems and no copper leaves not much options].

another pic showing most of stuff

Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0011s.jpg

1. Byzanthine clone has full hands. just got this turn i believe. Unluckily i moved to pleased visible also this turn. Main reson i picked archery and desperately want to know there iron is.
2. His missionary is running towards mine cities. Never saw AI spread religion to his target of declaration. maybe if he spents that guy on me it could mean something? pitty there wer litteraly no hills on that border
3. Forest. I think couple more tiles has grown. I am not even sure guy improving rice should not be chopping instead. Well, since i started might well as finish that farm, but order of the day is make few more workers [one capitol, one gold city].
4. Growth.... damn i need grow vertical too. I would guess going for GS in cap was mistake too. i would also love chop away and farm banana, but that is halted on worker force.
5. p.s. Cow went to byzanthine. It think i decided it was tooo optimistic and went worker/settler instead of opposite. Wussy me.

So teching is good, while growth and expanding sucks. Chopping time clearly

Crawled towards 1000BC.

From what i recall:
traded alpha for IW. We does has two sources. [see pic]. Need to claim these.
Also very juicy barb city, but i can really wait for calendar to claim it.

Meanwhile byzanthine clone hit even giving schock promo to axes, good thing he builds swords:rolleyes:. okay, not so good maybe.
Scouted him tad with charriot, some build up is going but no immenent danger. [still to see stack comin my way].

Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0017j.jpg

archer on hut made me laugh. Apparently he is stuck in there acting as free fogbuster:)

Decided to tech HBR, can trade it [got mono, priesthood, masonry from it - yeap, i know i tend to trade to aggresive early on, on other hand i have passable tech rate + likely upcomming war].

masonry meant i chopped walls in whatever Chinese third city is called. stocked few archers also.

think chopping can wait a bit, might as well start cottaging area in between cap and that walled city.

Well, maybe i am not target? Well, he sent like couple missionairies....

Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0019h.jpg

See that sowrdsman in east.... what do you think he is doing in there?

Waiting for DOW to open another front, steal some stuff.... Saw AI's doing same from times i played noble. No luck pall...

I got GS also, made Academy in cap.
So main plan:
Drop slider [should have done earlier since i can see khmer is finishing it.], tech maths roll few more chops.
If not declared tech CoL [hopefully trade most of it for HBR].
If declared go maths>Construction. Well, i might as well fight AI instead of jungle. Jungle anyway has one really good site left --- which belongs to barbs, might let them to chop jungle instead of me.

I also believe i should push my culture on horses and all that line in couole of turns.

Well, being declared before 1AD does not count as autowin in my book. So maybe it is not that bad map afterall:lol::lol:.

IMO he's just enjoying a summer day at the beach, he's not even looking toward China. :D
(while the barbarian archer prefers mountains in winter maybe? :D)

---

Seriously now. :)
What type of victory are you targeting so far?
Any specific plan yet?

played whole 4 turns to 800AD. Well, i called it crawling afteralll.

Major news is that clon wars has started:lol:

Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0010x.jpg

1000BC in between turns. Clone01 builds hagia sophia and makes confucian shrine.
about turn later i actually saw the stack of doom coming.
Did not took long before DoW and he dragged english clone in. [yet to see any land unit from england so that is not superscary]

Well, archers did hold up. That other swordsman gave me a bit of trouble. Tried some creative way to get rid of him which cost me likely two extra units:mad:

also lost southern scouting charriot by aattacking barb warrior guarding hut with 80% odds...

Good stuff i roaded through mountains and in max two turns will have iron. also managed trade HBR for half CoL. would like currency more but can't choose really.

i also opened borders with khmer, to get trade income, and traded gold for wine. Unluckily that allows his metal units to get to barbarian city and guarded huts. Not much i could do about that right now.

Need to decide here. I can go through construction, but before i mount offense clone01 might have longbows no problem. My inner me still says that extra gold mine, shrine and hagia sophia [for jungle works] would be still worth it.

Well, maybe i will have more time next week.

p.s. As plans go:
A) survive
B) get enough land [8-10 good cities].
C) keep at tech rate.
IMHO, that is very good plan.

Well, should not have called it crawling i guess:(

My current holiday hardware brely handles CIV even in BC era [and i start fearing what could happen in modern times]. War is not making that better.

good news
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0009t.jpg

Not so good i ma already seeing xbows. And i have zero idea where his metal is. Guess i still must get at least constantinopole. [clone has like three cities left so might as well try finish him.]

not so much good.
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0000h.jpg

Damn i was like two turns short on trading CS.... add 500 BC philo and paper being done already....
Guess i am eating results of my alpha gambit. Still maces at 1AD... Ugly.
i still can fight if he does not get to pikes.

Clones stack:

Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0001c.jpg

Spent most war on that cosy forest:) here goes strategy of choping correct tiles:)))
That is also reason either finish clone or at least eliminate his metal source.
Really don't want to see lat that stuff being upgraded.

Assuming i have an elephant ready to visit barb city, i guess i am ding okay on my plan except keeping tech parity. Still i have good land, and captued cities likely come with enough infra... Will see how it ends.

Ouch! probably a little bit late on the tech situation (and still, it is a Deity game, not easy to keep up), but the captured Great Library, giving a bit of extra :science: and scientist :gp: might help maybe a little to catch up later? :)

Lol at the enemy stack sitting on forest. The AIs warfare is so preventable...

back lurking...
