What DLC is most worth it now that they're all 33% off on Steam?

Personally I still find them overpriced, and I like the game. So I am not sure what to say. I guess Spain+Inca?

Purchasing maps for a game like this makes no sense to me, particularly when they are not even that good. But then I used to make some excellent maps for civ 2-4 and studied maps and cartographic methods at school, so I have high standards.

I'd say the Spain+Inca pack is probably better, unless you really like going for military victories in which case I'd say go for Denmark.

If you have to choose between those combo-packs, I'd go for the double civ. In the end that's better replay-value.
The Explorers Pack is nice, but there are a lot of good map scripts to get through the mod browser.

Spain & Inca is most civs for your money.

Also depends on whether you'd play the scenarios and what kind of scenarios you like. I've greatly enjoyed the New World scenario in the Spain/Inca pack, and the 1066 scenario in the Denmark pack is fun too if you like war.

Polynesia is pretty unique, but the scenario I didn't find so much fun.

Oh, and to quote myself from the other thread:

I would advise to wait until the end of the summer sale.
If it's a daily deal the prices will be even lower.
And if it's not going to be a daily deal then you can still pick it up on the last day :-)

So maybe, if you're lucky Civ 5 will be a daily deal and you can get even more DLC for your money :)

The other one is the thread about the news, this here is the thread about what of the DLC you should best buy, it's for me a difference ;).

Derp, my bad.

EDIT: I strongly agree that the map packs are NOT worth getting.

I'd say it's all worth it except the Cradle of Civilization maps/Map pack. Not sure why that thing costs as much as it does.

I actually was going to get DLC until I saw I can get Divine Wind for EU3 for the same price as the DLC. Spain/Incans sounds best. Don't get the maps, for reals. Selling maps as DLC was probably the dumbest idea I ever heard for a game where people could easily make copies (or better versions).

Hey all. Being that Civ5 content is 50% off today on Steam, can anybody give me some firsthand testimonies about the different DLC packages? I'm thinking some of it is better than others. Clearly Babylon for example, with its great scientists is quite an advantage, where someone like say, Spain with bonuses for natural wonders is practically useless. The maps seem like they might be good but rather pricey and should have been included in the game anyway. The explorers map pack looks worthwhile but is the Viking civ worth getting with its embarkment advantage?

Also, speaking of maps, if I buy a map pack and host a game with friends, will they be able to join if I use one of those maps and they don't own the DLC?

Moderator Action: Merged with existing thread. :)

Thanks moderator. Didn't see this thread.

I'm mostly wondering at this point if I bought the DLC civs (Babylon etc) if I'd be able to use them in my games with friends who don't want to buy any DLCs.

I assume that if the game did allow this, that only I'd be able to play as those civs right?

If you like Civ 5 at all I recommend all the combo packs namely Inca&Spain and Denmark&Explorer. If you want a vastly different playstyle suited for island maps I'd go for polynesia. If you hate leaving out only 1 civ, grab Babylon. I think 5 additional civs, 3 scenarios and extra map scripts for 12.5 bucks is a pretty good deal.

For the map packs, I don't have any idea about cradle of civilizations but I think the explorer pack is worth it if you buy it togather with Denmark. Continent Plus and Pangea Plus are 80% of the maps I play nowadays.

Ok I have a real problem now. I went to buy the DLCs on Steam but its saying that "Your transaction failed because you are trying to buy a game that requires ownership of another game you do not currently own. Please correct the error and try again."

Except I do own the game. I purchased it from ozgameshop.com which I thought was in Australia (like me) but its in the UK and they physically mailed me the game over a week ago but it has not arrived yet. So now Steam thinks I don't own the game but I just want to buy the DLCs so they are in my account while I wait for the main game to show up.

Does anybody have any ideas quick? I don't want to miss the sale.

It's a problem I've heard before.

The short-term solution (until that problem is solved) is to 'gift' those DLC to an emailadres you own, then you can always 'pick up' the DLC :)
Well, that's how I would do it. If that's possible.

But I'm not 100% sure that that problem, which is apparently some region mismatch thing, will be solved. You need to look at the forums here, the 2K forums and maybe the Steam forums to see what the situation is with that. I remember seeing a thread about it somewhere. I think. Edit: Or not? I'm not so sure now.

It should be possible and I think it doesn't really matter if his Civ V copy is from UK or Australia.
