New MP Game Starting (8pm GMT +12)

Hi everyone,

This thread is to organize our second long term MP game.

Our first ran over five sessions over a couple of months. If you want to learn more about that, and how much fun we had, see here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=417627 Best civ 5 game ever for all four players, it was a blast! See the writeups near the end of the thread. The rest is mostly ogranizing stuff.

I would prefer set days within this timeslot if at all possible (our last game took so long because, while the time was set, the days were not).

If you can't play at this time (which is not a great time for many players), I'd encourage you to set up a game in your own timezone--you'll probably find more players available than at this time. It's well worth the effort in setting it up.

So, who's in? We'd like to try this with six players, so the first two new players who sign up can give that a try with us.

Players from the first game are myself, Tabarnak, Mesopotamian aka Pittballz, and Brenador.

I'm in Moscow (+3 GMT), so I guess it's 11 am for me? I could do that in Sundays and maybe one-two other days, but this part is a bit unpredictable (depends on work).

Hi Khoukharev. Looks like you're on daylight savings now and currently 8 hours behind here, so it'd be noon for you.

We already have one or two players with somewhat unpredictable schedules, due to work or study.... We could give it a try, if everyone else can commit to Sundays (wee hours of Sunday for those in North America). Otherwise I'm a bit wary of the increased logistics with more players, and everyone's availability not lining up enough, if we don't have set days.

ha. would love to join in, but I am in China (exactly 12 hours different for east coast USA. Pretty sure the logistics of it sucks for you guys unless you don't mind games around 7~8PMish on fridays or saturdays (7~8AM my saturdays and sundays). Work all other times

btw. I play a lot of single player, but never multiplayer so I may suck too much in any case

Hi Stazba. If you are in the timezone of Beijing, which it seems you are, then the timing of this would be during your afternoon, starting around 4pm.

Interestingly enough, for our first game, we had: myself in Auckland, playing in my evenings; another in Australia, playing earlier evenings, another in California, playing about 1am, and another in Quebec, playing around 4am. Somehow it's a time that works for all of us, given our schedules.

yeah I am in Beijing time (actually in Shenzhen and Hong Kong). Same timezone (or almost) as you in NZland I think?

If times could be set to be weekend sat or sunday (UTC+08 3~4ish is great for me if the new worlder's don't mind being up late), and if you don't mind a complete MP newbie / prince level casual SP (who won't quit, but who probably will get steamrolled with a smile on his face and trying to make others smile or lol) then I would be interested.

That should be fine. I'm at about the same skill level and I greatly enjoyed the last game. I'm fine with playing at any time in what is the middle of the night for me on most days.

Cool, let's call you interested, and we'll see how we go coordinating everyone...if it only ends up working weekends for you...I'm not sure. That could be okay if we do play every weekend. Otherwise it might drag on. Weekdays for you at that time normally wouldn't work?

We're four hours later than you here in Auckland. Your 4pm is my 8pm.

Okay I've posted a couple other threads at civplayers and weplayciv to try to shake out another reliable player or two.

Right now, it looks like we might have 6 able to play on weekends, if Khoukharev joins us.

How's everyone for Sunday 10 July (tomorrow!) or Sunday 17 July? I already have plans for the 16th.

how long would you say an average block of playing time would be? If we can be fairly strict about it, I'm provisionally ok in some weekday nights (my time)

I'd say tuesday's wednesday's thursdays from 9 PM to 12ish (UMT +8) could be possible. Before 9 I want to spend a little time with the wife and kid, and after 12 I want to try to get ready for another glorious day yelling at suppliers.

In any case, here would be my provisional time frame that I promise to try as hard as I can to always have free (other times I can't promise)

Saturday (6~9AM, 2~5PM)
Sunday (6~8:ishAM) 2~5PM)
T, W, Th (9~12 PM)

my steam handle is stazba
I have Civ 5 vanilla

oh, and can anyone give me any helpful links about MP? Basically how to save games and reload MP games, tech questions like that.

(edit) Any of those time are fine with me (and my wife

) but to keep the peace I really cant be playing any more than 2 times a week (once on free weekday times, once on free weekend times).

Kyp!!! I was wondering what happened to you!

Hey guys...as a couple of you know I have recently run into some issues with Civ and it is currently not playable for me. I was getting very long load times (20 minutes!) and so I decided to try an un-/reinstall...ever since I get an incomplete installation message (55); the suggested fix by steam does not work. I've posted on a few boards and put in a steam support ticket, but until further notice, I can't play civ at all.

I'll keep you posted. Any tips appreciated.

Very nice to see you again and posting here Kyp and that you might be able to play with us regularly. Check out the thread for our last game if you haven't already. (Kyp aka secondsaber was one of the players in the very first 'epic' game I ran...which we didn't finish, with only three players.)

Stazba, it looks like the times you posted (your weekend afternoons) overlap with the set time for this game by only about 90 minutes, and that's if we do the earlier start (7:30pm here instead of 8:00pm). This would make for some short sessions...but if we played them at least once a week, that might work.... What are your Saturdays usually like Tabarnak? 22 / 29 etc.

hmm. I can play with consitency 1 night per week either Tues, Wens, or Thurs 9~12 PM. That would be 9AM EST.

Since my weekend time is hard for everyone (or in Tabarnak's case impossible), and if my weekday times are not good either, I will gracefully bow out

btw. Do you use the same online handle for Quebecoise French sites that you do on English language sites Tabarnak? Everytime I see your name, I am reminded of my French Canadian friend in HS screaming "tabarnak de calisse!" when he was pissed. LOL.
