Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 17
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the seventeenth game in the GOTM V Training Series! There are plenty of new features in Civilization 5 to explore and the Training Series games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these new features in a friendly environment. You are all encouraged to post your questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads described below. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread. Before going into the details of this game, we would like to ask you to abide to our most sacred rule: don’t replay any turns. If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. It’s better to do the bad moves in the Training Series instead of in the actual GOTM competition, once it starts.

In this game, the designated VC is Domination. You may win by any VC you wish, as all VC's are enabled, but the results will be posted with fastest finish by Domination victory and then all other VC listed below by fastest time. Good Luck!

In this game you will play as Genghis Khan and lead the Mongolian civilization to victory. It’s a standard sized random map played at Immortal difficulty and at standard pace. Domination victory is the designated VC for this game, all victory conditions are enabled. You will have until September 1st to complete the game and submit.

It seems the new patches for windows puts Mac players on the sidelines again as they await their patches. Hope it is a short wait. :please:

Please note that you are only allowed to build Oxford University one time. :nono:

Civ V - TSG17 game settings

In this game, you will be playing as Genghis Khan, you possess Mongol Terror. Combat Strength +30% when fighting City-State units or attacking a City-State itself. All mounted units have +1 movement.

You can train the Keshik, which replaces the Knight. The unit specializes in hit and run attacks, possessing a strong ranged attack and increased movement rate (5 total). Keshik's also acquire promotions at double the rate of other units and contributes twice as many points towards earning Great Generals. To build it, you must research the technology of Chivalry and have the resource of Horses.

You can also earn Khan, which replaces the Great General. While Khan possess the same combat bonuses as a Great General, it moves at an increased rate and can heal adjacent units.

Information about threads associated with TSG
TSG Announcement thread (this one). This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any information from a game you have started. Instead use the next thread.

Game In Progress thread. This thread is used to discuss the game once it's on the way. There are no reading or posting restrictions as such (apart from normal decency), although we encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play.

After Action Report thread. In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state (preferably in the post title) your victory date and score, as recorded in the Hall of Fame, and the most important: your path to glory! , We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the two week period (sorted by date and score). Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after two weeks, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

File Upload System
We now have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature)

This game runs for four weeks and ends Thursday, 1 September 2011.

The Save can be found here.

I hope many of you will give this Immortal game a try. It is tough, but I hope you have a fighting chance. :mischief:

Good luck!

Right Dave, I saw how you and your Keshiks only survived 150 turns on the Deity Challange.....;-)

It does, however it will not heal a unit in the same tile as the Khan.

started a random game at immortal yesterday to get an idea - took out England by turn 100 and stats turned up showing Germany had army power 1600 vs. my 380 plus France attacking me seriously. Wouldnt have gotten far.

Whats the tactics to be able to keep on top? certain tech by certain turn? crank out units one after another or rather building both units and buildings mixed?

thanks for some advices for the first 100 turns!

cheers

Will probably lose this one.. and domination on standard maps takes so damn long. The end turn takes about half a minute once you know the whole map, and then you even have to shuffle around your troops *sigh*. AND Mongolia..

Oh well, let's try anyway.

How did we jumped from prince to immortal?:)
I wanted to complain that last month was boring and abandoned it, but it is quite a jump.

Huts are on? It is always important to know to start with scout or not.

What we discussed in this thread was to vary the difficulty level for the TSG in a way that provides one game at an easier difficulty and one at a more difficult level each month. So the first of the month will see a more difficult level (emperor/immortal, perhaps a deity) and mid-month will be easier (less than emperor).

Yes, huts are on.

no worries. Khans and Keshiks will make you forget this is Immortal.

opening wise:

Find the horses, you'll need lots. Then it's chariot archers for defense (instead of archers) and maybe the first fight.

Very possibly, go Liberty and hit Theology/HS. tech Civil Service then open currency and clear HBR. double GS pop to Chivalry. (or grab Chichen Itza with a GE)

RAs would be important, but it's unlikely needed.

A Great Library/Oracle start should easily gain you a GS in time as well as help finish Liberty sooner. (timing might be a bit off, but the goal is about fast chivalry with enough cash to upgrade to keshiks) After that, kill everyone with Honour.

as a rule, I don't think many people attack city states.
do you make an exception when genghis?

Thanks, it sounds easy :)
I was just trying out immortal level with Rome but gonna leave that one now and start
this one, yi-haa

Finishing up the previous GotM, fell behind due to a corruption problem with CiV that I got fixed now. But, I think this one will allow me to catch up. Don't think I'll last long, but it'll be a fun challenge! :)

btw, I think the mods made an excellent compromise on difficulty level. One TSG at/near your difficulty level per month :) Thank you! :)
