Greetings, Immortals and would-be Immortals (and indeed any other players of any level), and welcome to the Immortal University.

Here is our Leader:

Here's the opening scene:

This is the first start I rolled, Huts and Events are, as always, conspicuous by their absence.

Picked the lesser played of the Indian Leaders, Inland Sea map, with 1 extra AI.

Looks like one of those maps where worker-worker to start is good.

Worker 1 mines gold while building worker 2. Then irrigate floods and ignore gold until high enough size.

Why not work FP immediately? Tech timing?

Combination of PH start + immediate gold makes worker-worker very good. It's better than what people think on most maps (Dirk1302 did a lot of tests with this IIRC), but here it has added bonuses.

-Fast worker gets gold up 1 turn sooner (3).
-No good food special.
-Start needs a lot of worker turns (floods) -- map is inland sea which is in itself worker heavy too.

It only takes 11 turns to get worker #2, and by then the first flood is farmed to allow growth.

I rate early commerce a lot.

I noticed the "Field of view" zoom.
Which mod and version are you using?

I have the BAT and PIG mods installed, which also have that feature, but, your save only works in the unmodded Civ4 BTS format, for me.
Is it BUG only?
The other mods seem to have added a few things more, without going overboard and changing things drastically.
This is probably, in a format used in previous games for the series, I imagine.
If, you could add the mod to the 1st post, so, we could know for future reference, it would be appreciated.
thanks. :)

Plasma - As with most forum series games, the save provided - unless WB save - usually runs the latest BUG/BULL in custom assets. This means the save can run with or without BUG/BULL.

BAT is essentially BUG/BULL plus graphics (I use BAT a lot by the way) I recommend having an install of BUG/BULL in custom assets. You can save a copy of the BUG/BULL CA folder and generate a new vanilla CA folder for use with other mods, and switch to it as needed. Only thing is that BULL uses a different DLL file in the Assets folder. You will have to switch between vanills DLL and BULL DLL. I have tools I use to switch all these seamlessly.

If a WB save is provide - like NObles Club and sometimes IU - then you can use that with any mod you choose.

I get lazy on providing a WB save lately :) extra AI plus Low Sea should even out about.

Why not work FP immediately? Tech timing?

I'd assume as 3:hammers: = 3:food: for building a 2nd worker that getting the extra:commerce: is vauled more than getting 1:food: later in the build of the worker (saving no turns on the build but providing 5 overflow)

*edit*

Still work the fp for 3 turns until Gold was mined of course :)

I'd consider the delaying growth by part building a 2nd worker (ie timing it so you hit pop 2 or 3 as the 2nd/3rd improvement is finished). This way thou you'd improve Rice - Farm FP - Mine Gold, and start growth sometime during Farming FP (3rd turn of farming i think).

what i found more disturbing is the distribution of strategics.

Spoiler :
I wasn't exactly in mood to fight out barbs with wars and selftech archers

Spoiler :

The real difficulty in this map only happens if Brennus dials up war with you instead of his worst enemy MM to his west. Otherwise you can just expand to ~13% land and out-tech everything w/o complication.

Horse is readily available so no need to tech archery for barbs. Iron is a possibility also with a high commerce start and jungle land to clear.

@ TMIT :
Spoiler :
Funny you should say that. He was friendly towards me (but had been plotting almost all game) when he declared ~ 25 AD. He hated MM, I shared no borders with him AND he had war elephants. Chalk up another loss. Way too much land to settle as the human player (I had 8 cities and room for 2 more) which dropped research to almost nothing. Most of the AIs had 8 or 9 cities except for MM who had 13. Ouch.

I was very happy with the location of the horses nearby. I managed to get in 13 cities and did my barb defense with 3 warriors and 3 wandering chariots. :)

bad scouting on my part.
I didn't see only 1 tile in the east and ironically it was the horses, I checked yesterday through WB...

if I would see it, I think I wouldn't complain...

You were unlucky. I could see that the end of the map was over there but it also looked like water so I got closer for a look. I ended up scouting the corner first and didn't really check out Brenus' land for ages.
