Well for me the choice is between 1S or 1E, 1S you give up fresh water, 1E you give up a turn for a 3:commerce: city tile due to Financial.

*edit*

I'd move the warrior 1SE as with the hill you should be able to see the unforested tile 2E to see if saving a turn to improve it if a resource is worth anything (thou Corn is likely to be first improvement so shouldn't matter)

since you chose archipelago... coastal for sure.

I think 1S is probably easiest choice, a little bit problem how to make the corn wet and of course a little bit the health

Thats partly the reason i'm liking 1E too, the turn it costs you will be made back in :commerce: terms fairly quickly from the city tile, and with CS Corn becomes wet :) It saves a turn on your work boat as well

I hate losing the fresh water but 1S looks better for the hammers and GLH. Corn can be irrigated with 2 farms from the SW, it appears, although cottages would be nice for what appears to be a decent Bureau cap - with trade routes to boot

Hannibal on archipelago? One of my favorite combos! I'd love to play this on my far from immortal skill level. Is that possible?

1S goes better for building workboat first as well since you can do the 3:food: grow to pop2 work 2 1:food:2:hammers: tiles to finish it. 1E actually looks like it only has a single grass forest hill for a 1:food:2:hammers: tile. The extra forest to chop could be useful for GLH, I think I'll end up 1E when i play but wouldn't think 1S was anything wrong :)

Open the save, save it in world builder then load it. You'll get a starting menu that will ask you to pick your leader then difficulty level. Try not to spoiler yourself too much!

Why would you go WB first when you can AG -----> irrigate corn + mine gems?!

I am somewhat ambivalent over 1S due to losing the health. I actually like 1E somewhat; settling on a spice tile as FIN means city tile is 2:food: 1:hammers: 3:commerce:, and a 3 :commerce city tile is pretty neato. Combined with the gems it leaves a lot of interesting options, not the least of which is a nigh-guaranteed oracle of something pretty good.

Although GLH is more popular and deserves its reputation, do not discount something like colossus. 4:commerce: coast for the first half of the game is very strong, and opens up a lot of tile improvement flexibility for a trait that frequently lacks it.

Colossus is ridiculous with FIN. Ocean tiles are 3c as well. You don't need workers, just work boats and as many settlers as possible. You'll have 10+ cities each one growing into a 4 commerce tile per pop! And with this map type its even stronger.

This conversation should really start with the moved warrior given that SE is the only place you'd move him.

1S for the two river tiles, one less water tile and the extra hill looks good to me although I'm awful at planning out openings so I usually don't.

Great Lighthouse should be easy enough, what's a typical Colossus build time? I've never played an arc map so I'm not confident here.

I have a GM wandering around, I'm not sure what to do with him as I haven't really scouted to see if there's anyone around other than Monty/Caesar. Should I have settled him? I got Monty to pleased early with a lopsided trade and he is now ready to war AC. Colossus was chopped out from a that huge stack of southern trees. I look forward to seeing the effects next turn. I'd like to do a bunch of trading with the Romans so I guess I'll wipe out Monty and spam coastal cities now. I really should build a trireme.

Thanks, I was waiting for that before chiming in.

1S picks up 2 river grass and 2 peaks. 1E looks like it picks up 2 coast, 2 unforested grass, and 1 unknown tile. It also loses a forest and a spices.

Anyone know if settling on spices gives an extra commerce? If so, I'd go 1E.

If not, I'd go 1S, since you get 3 additional squares that provide 3-commerce cottages right away, and going 1E loses a hills (on water-heavy maps, hills are king).

Up to 500ad.

Spoiler :

Settled 1E based on TMIT comments for commerce. Seemed a good decision.

Lucked out and got silver in BFC. Silver and 2 gems.

Teched Agr/BW/Sailing/Masonry/ MC.

Built GLH and TC in capital.

Really slow on the rex but I have a healthy tech lead. Biggest threat is a roman DOW.

Its riverside so you gain the extra :commerce: on the city tile, which due to FIN makes it a 3:commerce: city tile. Its the main reason for 1E being a good move as you soon catch up on the turns :commerce: you lose :)

@ Grashopa : Very fun (/ frustrating map). You should play the map. You might need to go a little bit unconventional though - I don't want to spoil anything but the map IS a good map (but you might not want to get all the obvious wonders).
Spoiler :
Barbarians are a pain since there is a huge amount of land to claim. Hence, TGL is okay but The Colossus will slow down expansion into the great wilds. Jungle is not your friend (immediately) but there is enough time to carve out room for 10+ cities. GLHF.

Spoiler :
Did anyone else have Monty decide to not spread East of his starting island at all? Super weird.
