Introduction

The year is...
Well, technically, there is no year, seeing as there is no calender.
Or writing.
Our navies, for you warmongers.

The premise of this IOT is simple - start a civilization, grow it through an ever-advancing world, and try not to die out before you've met another nation.

Please note that each region of the world - and, yes, they are simplified for gameplay - has a unique ability, which will aid players, and hopefully add to realism. For example, warmongers might like Europe, because of reduced military costs, while expansionists will prefer North America, which will support massive empires with low populations.

Please read all rules carefully - failure to do so may result in a first-round loss of your nation.

Do not insult, either IC or OOC, or I will remove your nation.

Joining and playing the game
Spoiler :
Joining the game:
Spoiler :
To join the game, claim one (1) land territory. This territory automatically has 1 population.
NPCs and players may join at any point, but will still be restricted to the above rules.

Orders:
Spoiler :
Orders must clearly define all actions you are taking, and be accompanied by a fully updated map. While RP is encouraged, insults will not be tolerated, and may result in removal from the game.
Players who do not provide orders will not be removed from the game.
Players are required to list their start region type when posting orders, or they won't be accepted.

Player Details:
Spoiler :
All players require:
A) A nation color. Must not be Black, White, an oceanic blue, or indentical/similar to another player/NPC.
B) A nation name. Again, no repeats.
C) A claimed territory. Must not conflict with existing claims.
D) A brief description of the nation.
E) Optionally, a flag, seal, or coat-of-arms.

Player Actions
Spoiler :
Expanding your nation:
Spoiler :
Territory Claims:
Adjacent land territories must be claimed with 1 EP and 1 population.
Adjacent sea territories must be claimed with 2 EP. Please mark your sea territories with a dot of your color, rather than covering them in it.
Non-adjacent land territories must be claimed by a colonist.
Colonists cannot claim sea territories.
Colonists cost 5 population, and the colonist that claims a territory will not count towards the new territory's population.
Colonists may be added to existing territories for 1 population.
When crossing seas, Colonists require Navies.
Colonists may move 1 territory in any direction.

War:
Spoiler :
Any player may declare war on any player (also applies to NPCs).
Armies are purchased with 1 EP, Navies with 2, and Air Forces with 5. They may be placed in any territory you own.
Units can only attack adjacent territories.
Armies may not attack sea territories.
Navies are required to transport armies.
Air Forces may move 5 territories in any direction, and require navies to cross larger seas.
Navies may move 2 territories in any direction.
Armies may move 1 territory in any direction, and require navies to cross seas.
No military units may be based in another nation's territory.
Air forces must be based in your territory, unless accompanied by a navy.
For combat purposes:
Armies have 1 health and 1 damage.
Navies have 2 health and 2 damage.
Air Forces have 5 health and 5 damage.
Territories have attack and defense equivalent to 2*Territory Population+Military on territory

Trade:
Spoiler :
The following items may be traded, at values decided by the players:
EP
Provinces (If tech level and location appropriate)
Food
Water

Game Mechanics
Spoiler :

Population:
Spoiler :
Gaining Population:
Spoiler :
Population growth:
Growth = Population of territory * Random number (-1 through 2)

Population density:
Density = Population / Territories

Losing Population:
Spoiler :
If the nation does not provide enough food, either:
A) Population will die. More sparse provinces will lose pop. first. A province can exist with 0 population.
B) Secessions will occur, as per seccesion rules.

Food and Water:
Spoiler :
Food and Water requirements:
Spoiler :
1 food and water per population
Food and water used to repair province deficit (I.E., loss of food and water from deserts)

Excess food and water:
Spoiler :
Extra food and water cannot be stored.
However, it may either:
A) be sold to another nation (at a deal the two nations decide upon)
B) be used to gain population, at the cost of 2 food and 2 water per additional pop. The GM will determine where this pop. resides.

Revolts and Collapse:
Spoiler :
If a densely populated region is too far from the "core" of your nation, it can revolt and become an NPC.
If any region is starving or dehydrated, and would fare better on its own, it can revolt and become an NPC.
If your entire empire suffers these conditions, or is spread too thin, it can collapse and split into multiple NPCs.
An empire undergoing collapse runs the risk off disappearing from the game.

Tech advancement:
Spoiler :
When regions are sufficiently claimed (as per decision of the GM), tech level will advance.
Techs will be (In order):
Shallow-water Navies Researched
Irrigation
Colonists
Sustainable Farming
Deep-water Navies
Medicine
Ecology
Electricity
Air Forces
Arctic Navies

GM Notes:

Be sure to place your nation's first territory in a place where you can support your initial population (and, ideally, another 1-2 pop), or else you will die out on the first round.

If you don't post a world map, and mention your start region in your orders, I will ignore them. Don't make me do more work.

If you don't submit orders, don't worry. Your nation will not dissapear, barring a war.

I will join Korea. Put me in seoul with red colour.

You're supposed to put a map, and the name of your region (In your case, East Asia), with your orders. Given that this is the first round, and you're just claiming a well-defined territory, I'll ignore that, but you're going to have to choose a new color - two NPCs are shades of red, and one of them is Japan.

Sorry for that. Also I want green.

Virginia Imperium

Spoiler Claims :

Region
North America

History, Such As It Is
Little is known about the originis of Virginia, other than the fact that someone that was not indigenous to the area first settled in a city they called Yorktown. From there, Virginia began its long rise to greatness....

Motto
Wrte, Piohj, Wirpn, Juaepit, Virginia!
"Glory, Power, Might, Supremacy, Virginia!" in Virginian

While I'd ideally like ~10 initial players, I'm willing to add a few NPCs and start with 5-6 players, if no one is opposed to that (and I get more sign-ups).
