Greetings to all. I'm interested in setting up a PBEM game for some dedicated and skilled players with a very solid understanding of the game, being able to beat the game on Emperor difficulty or higher, or its equivalent in Multiplayer skill.

Having already found two other players, I'm basically looking for 2 others to make it a full house. We don't have much Multiplayer experience, but we're all very familiar with the game and are interested in a challenging match with experienced opponents. The options we've come up with so far are as follows:

Map Type: Pangaea
Map Size: Small
Map Speed: Normal
Climate: Temperate
Starting Era: Ancient

No AIs, only 5 Human Players

No Advanced Start
Unrestricted Leaders
Barbarians On
Goodie Huts Off
Random Events Off
Vassal States Off
Tech Trading Off
Tech Brokering Off

All Victories enabled

As for Civilization/Leader selection, we've come up with a few rules to maximize enjoyment and fairness, above and beyond merely having Unrestricted Leaders:

-No Financial Leaders; it's probably the best trait, especially in the early game, and so to make sure that not everyone has to pick a Financial Leader or be left behind science-wise, we're going to just make it so that no one is Financial.
-No Romans, Incans or Persians; this is to limit the unfairness of their Unique Units. Incans and Persians have very hard to counter rush mechanics, whereas the advantage of Praetorians is almost too great to be considered fair.
-We'll use a Snake Draft to select Civs/Leaders; basically, the first one in line to pick his Civ will be the last to pick his Leader and vice versa.

-----

So yeah, if anyone is interested feel free to post. And if you disagree with any of the game options we can always negotiate.

Edit:
Play Order

Espirito - Kublai Khan (Agg, Cre) of the Ottomans (taken over by Nighthawk)
Etienne - Suryavarman (Cre, Exp) of the Maya
Tankra - Shaka (Agg, Exp) of Sumeria
Mitiu Ioan - Catherine (Cre, Imp) of the Zulu
rd13 - Ramesses II (Ind, Spi) of Egypt

Original message:
As mentioned I'm one of the other two players already signed up. I helped shape the game options above so deserve part of the flak (if there is any) :)

Hope we can get a couple more people interested and get the game started soon. The only additional thing I'd mention is we are of course looking for dependable players willing to see a game through to the end and not quit when things get rough!

Information for the play-order:
I'm GMT timezone. Tankra is Canadian I understand so about GMT-5 or GMT-6?

Hi,

im interested. Have played CIV 4 for 4-5 years. I'm GMT+2, Estonia. Any civ/leader is fine, tbh i like to pick the underdogs.

All rules seem ok, are you sure about the tech trading tho? Especially if you already have signed up 2 friends, how do i know you wont do the merry-tech-swap-around? :)

Cheers,
rd13

Hey rd13,

Yeah, I can see how that would be a problem; consider tech trading to be off then!

So if you're interested, welcome aboard, then. We just need to find one more.

And yeah, although I know the other player IRL, I can assure you that I have no intention of cheating or giving him any freebies. If I wanted to cheat to make myself feel better about winning a game online, I'm sure there are much better ways of doing it than a PBEM Civ IV game.

P.S.: Espirito, I think there's a problem with your Hotmail. It's not letting me send you any e-mails.

Well that's perfect then. There was one spot left, welcome to the game Mîtiu!

This means we can start asap. What's your timezone, Mîtiu?

Sounds good then. Can you send me your email by PM? As soon as you do that we can start to pick civs/leaders and get the proverbial party started. :)

Have we heard from Mitiu yet or do we need to keep searching for a #5 player? i know it's Christmas and New Year but still a week is a long time to be awol and doesn't bode well for quick turnarounds.
