How to set up a custom scenario map for Multi-Player

I want to record and share how to set up a custom scenario map for Multi-Player in Civ4, as this process works very well. The Example below is for two human players, but you can add more than just 2.

Phase 1 - Set Civ4 to Cheat mode

1. Go to folder: My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword
2. Modify CivilizationIV.ini file

a. change from: CheatCode = 0
b. change to: CheatCode = chipotle

3. Save the CivilizationIV.ini file
4. Go to folder: Beyond the Sword\Mods\Mod Name
5. Modify the .ini file for your mod.

a. change from: CheatCode = 0
b. change to: CheatCode = chipotle

6. Save your mod *.ini file

Phase 2 - Create Custom Map

1. Start your Civ4 BTS mod
2. Start new game in "Single Player" mode
3. Set desired game options

a. Randum Leaders, etc.
b. 1st and 2nd players are the human players civs you wish to play although the second player will be listed as an AI player for now.

4. Launch the game
5. Enter World Builder
6. Edit your custom Map
7. Exit World Builder after finishing all of the changes to your map
8. Save the Game (key Step)

Phase 3 - Create game Scenario

*** Note: Single player game is still open at this point
1. Press Alt Z
2. Enter World Builder
3. Save Map as Scenario
4. Exit Civ4

Phase 4 - Load your custom scenario in Multiplayer

1. Start Civ4 BTS
2. Start new game
3. Select Multi-Player mode
4. Load Scenario
5. Set Player Attributes

a. Human/AI
b. Set name for 2nd player

6. Launch your custom Multiplayer game

Enjoy!

Should I maybe move the thread to the tutorials section?

The information in this step by step procedure is important enough to be reference material, as I refer to this procedure every time I set up a custom multiplayer game. So I think you are correct to classify this thread as a tutorial. Just let me know when you move it, so I can change the links I made to this page.

:thanx:

I can't seem to find the right configuration (.ini) file for either AND or C2C

Apologies for whiff of necro, but following this guide on OSX version did not work; the WB does not give the option to save the file as a scenario.

We found out here how to save scenarios by saving to the PublicMaps folder, but MacBTSWB doen't let me change the save location. We had to exit WB, save the 1P game, transfer THAT file to a Windows PC, and open it in WinBTS, and THEN proceed with Phase 2.

As a double frustration, one of my two Win user gaming friends found chipotle reset to 0 every time she booted BTS, making her version unable to be used to finish my projects :/

The procedure was developed for the PC version of BTS, not a MAC. All bets are off using a MAC. Sorry.

Hello all,

is this method still valid for Civ4 ?

It seems like I cannot "adjust" KI/Human Player slots when trying to load the custom build map as scenario.

Or did I miss something or make something wrong (despite I think I did everything correctly ?)

There was only one point where I this guide seems to be slightly off my experience.

You state in Phase 3:

*** Note: Single player game is still open at this point
1. Press Alt Z => Here when I hit this alt+z in my SP game it "switches" to the next AI player - is this working as intended ?

Yes. I Press ALT Z for all of the players until I get back to the first player. After saving the scenario, the next phase opens a new game in multiplayer using the modified scenario.
