I hate starting a new thread to discuss this subject, but I don't see any place else to do so.... (Moderators are encouraged to move this to somewhere more appropriate, should such a location exist.)

Should there be another prefix to distinguish "interactive games" such as the Star of the Shogun: Realpolitik or The Law of the Jungle from "purer" creative writing stories such as Wake, Russia! or Militiaman or The Philosopher Kings?

As a specific proposal, I recommend restricting the Story prefix to the latter endeavors, and adding a new prefix Interactive for the former.

:agree:

Come, now: Let us not excite the Communists :D

In all seriousness, I think a seperate Prefix is a good idea. How about Politik as the prefix, given most of said interactives are now RealPolitik?

WebGame looks good to me.

If not for certain corporate interests, I might suggest iGame....

I suggest Politik as most CivV Forum Games can trace their ancestry back to the original CivIV RP and most of the games here are just variants of it.

I disagree, while that may be true of Civ IV S&T most of the games in here trace back to Rebirth of France which seems, to my mind, to be based on Become a Citizen of the Empire - which is an anarchy game, although Yahzuk may like to weigh in on his original inspiration.

As for 6-7 letter prefixes, difficult to come up with anything that short to describe all game stories (possibly just use 'game' but it could be confusing), perhaps a couple of different prefixes could be used to describe types of game. For example:
RP (realpolitik)
diplo (Children of the Emperor, Government and Politics and the like)
co-op (similar to Rebirth of France where players are aiming to win the game, not achieve a personal or team victory)
anarchy (anarchy games)

For the record, if these could be used over in CivIV S&T, I would suggest we had all four of the prefixes+DI.

@Mad: Well, I say RPG because it's a better-known acronym than RP and most Realpolitiks have the word Realpolitik in their title.

I think IAAR is better since it's all-encompassing and better than the current Story prefix anyway.

IAAR can be used for LPs, RPs, DIs, War Rooms, whatever. It's the simple and painless way out that I think no one hates.

I, for one, loathe the RPG prefix for a Realpolitik.

I agree. I think that "RPG" carries a negative connotation to the general public.
