With this I've caught up the missed game and we'll be back to every other week
Hoping the surprise works how I want for some fun, so what do people think for the start?

Lacking food and way too much plains but I see a grassland in the fog and perhaps something else to the SW where a food resource may be. I might take the settler walkies.

For me warrior 1SW and try my luck from there.

Spoiler:
Ho hum rival best military 47000?? Now heres comes a suprise!! lol

That looks lousy. Plains, only one GH, no 3H tile for leveraging EXP and no prereq for AH.
I would move the warrior 1NE and, if he discovers 3 gem deposits, settle 1NW. Otherwise SIP and pray.

I agree, but I'd even move for a single wet corn or wheat. This capitol is pretty rough and most of the possible food to the south is of the 3 or 4 variety...not ideal.

If you've tampered with the map, hence the SURPRISE, please tell us in advance so I don't waste 10-20 turns of my life before I realize I'm wasting my time.

This is a pretty annoying map :-/
Spoiler:
Low food, except in locations towards Cathy..which forces to settle close to her and far away from Capi, but those spots have no commerce.

Horse and Copper both have no food (horse only 3f sheeps), leaves us without good 2nd/3rd spots to settle. Aaaand if one goes BW first, you are really screwed. I didn't cos i wanted AH and skipped Agri at first, but still..was in the mood for some relaxed Imm gaming, but here it's like pulling teeth and more suited for paying close attention ~~

harumph

Spoiler:
I did try.... No commerce... If I did it again I would guess u have to oracle something. Land is pretty flat. Only beakers I could get were scientist in cap. About doubled my tech when I settled the scientist. Whoever made this map is an evil person. I made 2 city that shared food with cap. Anyway got to about 500bc and just couldnt see any way to progress. Will follow with interest.

I'm still going to play it, because it's not going to ruin the game, but it can change early wars. Anyways, knowing tokugawa, he's not going to progress farther than civil service anyway :P

Can change the game
...Toku takes all near barb cities easily, becomes big quick (now that you mention it, he had more cities than Cathy), vassals a good techer..no need for being smart, he can let things roll if it goes well.

I can't even get a decent start going to do much of anything.

Spoiler:
I think you have to rush catherine pretty early to have much hope on this map since your land is terrible and her land is incredibly good, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Not sure I can get a horse archer rush going early enough to be of much use since tech rate early on is very, very slow with the land being so terrible.

Had some time to burn this weekend so gave it a shot anyway, though still don't like it when people TAMPER with what is to be a standard map.

I even forgot about Izzy's UU, and since my over-whealming position & monster UU stack means the game's 99.9% won... I'm not going to even bother finishing this one out from my position.

Next map please...

Spoiler:

Immortal University needs like a schedule like Noble's Club. The games are far too few to really be much of a series.
