Salut, y'all!
Today I come with another novel idea* that may or may not be of interest.
It is the year 1600 AD and the world is shaping up to be quite different.
For a start, there's no America. Columbus was never born.
Instead, the world has developed to a point were demands are just too high and the people to cope with these demands are grabbing the opportunity.

Who these people are? You.
General rules:
1. No trolling, flaming or whatever.
2. I'm sorry, what? you were thinking you'd manage to start as a great big damn trade empire? No way.
3. In addition, no claiming countries. That's my job.
4. Declarations of war aren't your decision, but anything you do for the war effort IS PUBLIC.
5. Respect the others. Even if they're blockading everything you own.
6. Only join if you can commit. I'm fed up with everyone leaving because they have no time, but I CAN put your trade routes on standby and all you have to do is send me a PM from time to time.
7. BUT NO SLACKING OFF!

What happens if you break a rule?
Nothing, except for rule 1 and rule 5, in which you're banned for an update every time you break it.
Starting out:
Name of Merchant Family: Equivalent of name of country
Allegiance to which country: equivalent of government. You can take any country on the map at the time (such as Denmark, Sweden, Novgorod, Japan, Khmer etc.). can be changed
Religious views of Merchant family: equivalent of religion. You can choose from a religion that actually fits to your allegiance (So no Catholic Khmers or Buddhist Holy Romans please). can be changed
History:
Trade route claimed: choose between two provinces occupied by a country. Any country, but one province must be in "your" country (so if you were a Catholic Italian family, a route from Rome to Constantinople would be acceptable, but from Vienna to Constantinople, not so much). It must be either on the same continent or across a small stretch of sea (Mediterranean/North sea is the largest stretch really), so Hindustanis can't trade with Ethiopians but can with Malayans or Burmese.

Right.
Goods:
Each Province is producer of a certain good, See World of Trade Thread for which goods there are.
Most provinces are already claimed, but some aren't. These are impassable until a) they are colonized, b) a new country appears or c) Your country sends you to set up a trade post.
You will need to trade these goods with skill - don't try bringing scottish wool to Meath please, you'll lose your income.
Trade on your trade routes is automatic, depending on how everything turns out for you.
List of goods (copied for good measure), made so that it's good/buy price/sell price

The list does not apply in the case of trading to a province that produces the same, owing to the fact that there's no point. in these cases you make no money at all.

New trade routes:
Each trade route costs 4gold. (each player starts with 10gold)
Wars:
Apart from the price war (hahaha -.-) Countries will declare war on each other. It's not your fault, but your trade routes between the two countries will be put on hold for just about until the war ends and other routes might be blockaded. You can ask countries for an escort to go round the latter problem (4gold should do the trick)
Maps:
Up tomorrow, imgur's acting odd.

The family used its marrige ties and wits to take over the salt mines in Tuzla giving them a fortune, when the Ottomans came to Bosnia in 1463 they converted so they could keep their mining rights, with those rights they set up a trading link with Ragusa, a small trading republic in Hum.
