Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 28
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////

Welcome to the twenty-eighth game in the GOTM V Training Series! There are plenty of new features in Civilization 5 to explore and the Training Series games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these new features in a friendly environment. You are all encouraged to post your questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads described below. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread. Before going into the details of this game, we would like to ask you to abide to our most sacred rule: don’t replay any turns. If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. It's better to do the bad moves in the Training Series instead of in the actual GOTM competition, once it starts.

In this game, the designated VC is Domination. You may win by any VC you wish, as all VC's are enabled, but the results will be posted with fastest finish by Domination victory and then all other VC listed below by fastest time. After our Deity game, thought it might be fun to use Keshiks to exact some revenge. Hope you have some fun with this one. :mischief: Good Luck!

In this game you will play as Genghis Khan and lead the Mongolian civilization to victory. It's a standard-sized mystery map played at King difficulty and at standard pace. Domination victory is the designated VC for this game, all victory conditions are enabled. You will have until February 15th to complete the game and submit.

Sorry to say that Mac players cannot play this game as their update has not yet been completed.

Please note that you are only allowed to build Oxford University one time. :nono:

Civ V - TSG28 Game Settings:
Playable Civ: Genghis Khan - Mongols
Number of AI Opponents: 7
Number of City-States: 16
Map type: Mystery
Map Size: Standard
Difficulty Level: King
Game pace: Standard
Game options: Promotion Saving is enabled. Quick Combat is disabled (You can enable it by following instructions in this link.)
Game Version: This game was created in Civ5 version 1.0.1.511

In this game, you will be playing as Genghis Khan, you possess Mongol Terror. You receive +30% Combat Strength when fighting City-State units or attacking a City-State itself. All mounted units have +1 Movement.

You can train the Keshik, which replaces the Knight. The Keshik possesses a strong ranged attack plus an increased movement rate (5 total), allowing it to perform hit and run attacks very effectively. It also acquires promotions at double the rate of of other units and contributed twice the number of points towards earning Great Generals. You must discover the technology of Chivalry and you need the Horse resource to build it.

You can also earn the Khan, which replaces the Great General. The Khan provides the same combat bonuses as a Great General but it moves at the same rate as the Keshiks and can help heal adjacent units for an additional 2 HP's per turn. This beefed up Great General ensures that his cavalry units will always be battle ready.

This is where you will start:

Information about threads associated with TSG
TSG Announcement thread (this one). This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any information from a game you have started. Instead use the next thread.

Game In Progress thread. This thread is used to discuss the game once it's on the way. There are no reading or posting restrictions as such (apart from normal decency), although we encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play.

After Action Report thread. In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state (preferably in the post title) your victory date and score, as recorded in the Hall of Fame, and the most important: your path to glory! , We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the two week period (sorted by date and score). Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after two weeks, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.

File Upload System
We now have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature)

This game runs for four weeks and ends Wednesday, 15 February 2012.

The Save can be found here.

Keep playing it then. You have plenty of time for 28. :)

Everyone's a critic... :p

I think I'll run the warrior SE along the river. Unless I see some amazing land down there I'll probably settle in place.

i guess the map type 'mystery' is the same for everyone since its coming off a save file, we just arent supposed to know going into the game? or is there a chance we all could play a different map type? that would be pretty interesting.

Knowing the map type gives you a lot of info regarding tech path and negates the need to scout as much. If the community wants to know map type, I can begin stating it. See below.

How much do you edit the maps, Lief? If at all. Just out of interest.
Civ5's edit features are not user friendly and so every map is straight from the map generator. I've tried making maps and editing maps, but there are adjustments that need to be made to hand made or edited maps that are time consuming and, frankly, not worth the effort. In my old age, I might forget to readjust something and might make things less entertaining... :shifty:

I have worked out a process for map and game generation, but that mystery will go with me to my grave.

thanks. technically i figured the save would be the same for everyone, but im not into the mods so if there was one to allow people a vastly different experience i wouldnt know about it.

im fine with the mystery. i dont want to know going into it. ill also skip the in-progress reports until after i play it first. so no spoilers for me, haha. :goodjob:

Sorry, I think I misunderstood your question.

The map is the same for everyone as we use no mods currently. Good Luck!

Have fun... :)

I'm sad. I can't play until the Mac Update is released. Its been a month so I had hoped it would be by now. I guess computer programmers take some time off over the holidays. Too bad for me. :(

Sounds like fun. I have only played three games in CIV 5 yet. And the last one was on prince. But... how hard could it be... and what's the worst that could hapend? :)

Hmm op keshiks again?

I will make a youtube movie for this GOTM but with a 4 cities sword rush opening followed by keshiks. If no iron i will attack with some horses to start the game.

If everything goes fine i will try a no keshik game and compare results. If it's not a pangea map, it can gives me an opportunity to get Astro faster if i can finish my own continent before travelling. Feasible at king i guess.

P.S : I did try to make a movies of the past GOTM but i failed a deity cultural game again and i made a lot of mistakes. Not really entertaining.

Gj with the GOTMS!, just wish there were more :)

How old are you anyway?

I myself am approaching 30 and im starting to feel like an old man :)
:yup: I remember those days, when I used to pick on the older guys and tease them.
Now I am paying my penance...

Sorry, I have a (probably rather stupid) question about submitting my game - it says that I should submit a save from the turn *after* my victory or defeat, but it also says I should select "Lemme play one more turn" and then save the game. But if I win on turn 215, that will still produce a save from turn 215 (because the victory screen happens in the middle of the turn). Am I supposed to advance a further turn, so I'll have a save from turn 216 if I won on turn 215?
