Insert usual AoI intro here.
Maximum aggression, Seaman difficulty.
Modifications this game around:
-If a third world nation captures Industry, Coal and Iron, they can build Italian battleships.
-I've tweaked Third world cavalry to make them slightly less crappy.
-Chinese units have been made cheaper, so will likely be a lot of fun for Europeans in Asia.
-Stealing technologies has been enabled.
-Canada and Mexico have had their defenses beefed, making American overrun less of a possibility.

Austria-Hungary has a pretty good start - decent troops, 7 cities, and a variety of targets. From a management perspective, they also don't have to worry about colonial drama, only having to show concern for a single region. That's good news for the player, bad news for the overall strategy - it means the VP race is automatically against them. Seizing more VP locations, and possibly colonising Africa at the expense of the Turks, is a good idea.
It is Commercial, Scientific, and Industrial. That latter bonus will definitely be of use, though the other two are kind of worthless to them.
Some disadvantages are only one port - wars of expansion are a must to remedy this. While Klyden suggests the Balkans, I don't see why - a much better plan would be to take Portugal or the Dutch, with their fairly crappy troops and two-city positions. The Dutch, furthermore, have FIVE VP locations in their country, which would give Austria a huge lead. It would also be a means of attacking Britain later on with airships, thus ruining their industrial capability.
Besides. The Dutch being the first thing the Austrians inherited historically, it's a great first step.
Technologically, Austria is large and wealthy enough to keep up with the other powers. Developing wonders to get ahead in the tech race is a must. We can use this advantage to wreak havoc on our foes.
We also have a bunch of enemies - having disabled the alliance with Germany, no front is safe. France, Russia and Germany are all potent rivals, and we will need to stay on their good side. Allying with one will be sound policy.

So. 1895. A golden fireball landed on Vienna and killed everyone in the government but the Archduke himself. The Archduke was told by the creature he would get to live if he acted as a front for the creature. Asked his name?
Iblis. And the Archduke would become the most powerful world leader, with millions if not billions of delectable deaths along the way. He muttered something about a nuclear warhead being useful in this pursuit, and when the Archduke asked what the heck that was, Iblis replied, "Shut up and get back in the kitchen and make me a sammich."
Anyway let's get past the ASB and get into the BBBE. Best Boss Beating Ever.
Setting research to 5 turns per tech, it was discovered a fat deficit of 20 gpt was had. The treasury had a surplus of 500 gold, but that would be eaten up quick. As such, RoPs were signed with minor nations to rack up profit margins.
The Mahdists would demand funds, but were rejected.
Week 13, Tibet would demand gold, but they were told Iblis was golden-furred and so could suffice if they desired such. They were confused, but went back to the Himalayas rather than press the issue.
Chile and Argentina went to war. The Iblis smiled with glee!
Meanwhile, the deficit had magically transformed into a surplus without outside assistance. Such was the power of Iblis, spurring rapid growth.
The British were given their blood money. Iblis stated the British would pay back the loan several fold at an undetermined date. Italy was given its money too.
The French took the reserve source of Copper from Austria.
Week 29, the Gold Standard was implementing, boosting the economy and industry of Austria-Hungary.
Week 49, Iblis ensured that two competing comic books were published - one in Austria and one in Hungary. They gained great fame overseas, and "Sonic" would become the world's most well known character for generations. The comic books were praised for being a century ahead of their time.
With the industrial base gradually improving, it would only be a matter of time until Brussels and Amsterdam were consumed by fire...
