Hey guys,
I wanted to share my preview and interview for Warlock: Master of the Arcane with all you guys here! Its pretty much Civilization 5 just in a fantasy setting so i know you guys will want to at least take a look at it! Im really excited seeing as how I was a big fan of Civilization 5 (My Video Review).

Oh and I even managed to sneak in a Civ 5 question or two, I made sure to mention COMBAT ANIMATIONS in multiplayer! ;)

Check it out, tell me what you think!

I want proof that this is legit and not just a bot (we get a lot of those), preferably in the form of signed merchandise :mischief:

Seriously though, I have been looking for new 4X TBS, and this reminds me a lot of Age of Wonders. Hopefully they do a better job of using the civ5 engine than Firaxis has.

EDIT: RPS also has a preview up:

This looks damn beautiful, hopefully it will include a map editor.

What?! Angry Joe coming to tell me personally about Warlock? That's pretty nifty! Nifty enough that I'm wondering how legit this is indeed!

Anyway, if you're real, hi! You're one of the few game critic who I follow these days. Wait, no, you're pretty much the only one at this point. Congrats on achieving this. Must be because you talk about PC games, and you do so in a critical yet non-cynical manner.

Anyway, yes, I've been following Warlock a bit. And the new Elemental game from Stardock. Will definitely check these games out.

As for combat animations, I eventually end up turning them off when I know I'm gonna play a long war-oriented game... But that's only after hundreds of hours of playing Civ. At some point I've seen them enough, hehe.

Wow! :crazyeye:
What an honor, thanks so much mang, I really appreciate your kind words. Its for reasons like that, that I love doing it!

That Elemental game ive heard has big problems, they've been patching to kingdom come but this new expansion fallen enchantress is supposed to be a sort of do-over, however one of the devs I think recently let spill that multiplayer is being axe'd from it.

As far as the combat animations I can see your point there, I do want the option tho. I usually like shorter games with 1 or 2 friends.

Im not a bot!

Elemental: Fallen Princess (iirc) looks promising, I rarely (if ever) play the multiplayer component of strategy games anyway so I'm not too concerned about it being late or removed from EFP or Warlock as long as the singleplayer is excellent.

Lousy self-promotion at its finest.
But the game looks great. A lot better than Civ5. I just hope it won't get the same buggy launch as Civ5, Sword of the Stars 2 and Elemental.

Angry Joe (if it's him) doesn't really need to post in an obscure sub-forum of CFC to have viewers, as far as I know. He's a half famous internetz boyz.

Thanks for the support Rub'Rum!

Some people need to understand the concept of "SELF-promotion" more clearly, if i came on here with a trailer for the AngryJoeShow or just talking about me and what it is I do, thats "shameless" SELF promotion.

If I come here to where I know there are lots of Civ fans who may not know about a game that aspires to be Civ 5 with Fantasy Creatures that's letting people know that this game exists, which is the whole purpose of the show. I certainly didnt come here to get MAD VIEWS yo'.

Because I dont have a gazillion posts on this board doesnt disbar me from coming here and sharing something relevant with you guys, oh internetz. :mischief:

On the other side of the coin by your logic everyone's opinion of the civlization games on these forums is shameless self promotion.

Anyway, Glad its on your radar now MoonFlare! The Preview code for the game does have some UI issues, but its still really really early - releases sometime early summer.

Kind of sad in that Firaxis/2k should have thought of this first.

Its definitely new phenomenon, people are trying to get fans and make a deal with devs later, ie paid review. I know multiple people who do this. You guys can probably imagine how hard its nowadays to make own website and find people who start to read it.

Not really new idea, just startup version of old idea. That's basically what video game magazines are/were, then the "independent" video game websites (e.g. IGN), then people just making episodes of stuff on Youtube. That's how Yahtzee got started.

The only connection the developer of Warlock has to 2K/Firaxis is that they bought the rights to use the Civ5 engine. Ino-Co Plus is a Russian developer and Paradox is publishing the game.

I was saying it looks like a total Civ 5 engine, plus MoM was a Microprose property----amusingly indirectly cousin to Civ.

Oh yeah, it is probably more inspired by Age of Wonders and Heroes of Might & Magic (which I have not really played, I tried playing an old version I got at the thrift store (slightly battered box and all :D) but was terrible at it) than MoM but similar type of game afaik. EDIT: Not too mention Firaxis doesn't even own a lot of stuff it had back when it was Microprose, they have no idea who owns the rights to the Civ2 source code for instance.

EDIT: Although I'm not sure if Warlock has heroes , and that is something I rather liked in AoW and the King Arthur RPG/RTS/TBS game.

One thing I didn't notice from the interview is what platform they were using. Will this be a Steam game, or what?

If it does use Steamworks it has not been announced yet.
