Greetings, Immortals and would-be Immortals (and indeed any other players of any level), and welcome to the Immortal University.

Here is our Leader:

Here's the opening scene:

The following settings were used to create this map

Before we start, here's the copy & paste bit where I get to pretend that I'm TMIT:

To play, just extract the WB save file into your worldbuilder saves directory, then play it. Use custom scenario if you want some extra settings to tickle your fancy. This series was designed for people learning immortal, so most people here will be at that level or trying to attain it, although deity players are welcome also. Hell, if you want to play this on NOBLE. The intention of this and any other game thread I post is to get better. Play whatever level you need in order to improve.

If you are aspiring IMM+, try to remember to add archery back to the barbs in WB. Every time you don't, a deity AI will kill a kitten, although there are a lot of kittens so it's not the end of the world if you prefer easymode barbs .

I do request people to list their difficulty and speed. In terms of updates, well nobody follows that anyway. Post in the manner you feel comfortable. Typical comparison dates are 1 AD, liberalism, and victory/defeat, as well as any major events. If in doubt, go with that.

We also have an initial Immortal/Normal autosave which is much more convenient since you can avoid all the worldbuilder shenanigans. It comes with my personal seal of approval (not least as my worldbuilder edits may contain hideous game-destroying errors that could cause your computer to explode :p).

Busy this weekend so rolled the map early. Got isolated first time so re-rolled and got this start. Was good enough for me to make WB saves so anyone can try it out :p I've checked them and worked fine for me but its awhile since I did WB saves for a forum game so if anyone notices any screw ups please tell me :)

1S is so attractive until we find out we plant the city onto copper/horse/iron. Then, gah!
DeGaulle is very solid leader.

Yup I quite like him, been have some Earth18 games for fun lately so choose him over Louis for IU :)

Meh, wouldn't be that terrible, especially horses. 1S doesn't have so bad production that losing a flatland mine/horses would be a catastrophe. And two extra riverside gems in capital? Yespls.

Spoiler :
Actually just moving settler 1S shows we even get extra fish by the move. Sold!

@Silverbow

Spoiler :
Thats what made me decide to share it (make WB saves), all those goodies were too good not to :)

To lib or not to lib... (940 AD)

Spoiler :

I did what the start asked for, and wonderspammed. Oracled MC, and built a bazillion of wonders:

This kinda came at expense of some grand REX, and I didn't war either:

And I'm a turn away from lib, and dunno what to research towards. This seems like cannon war, since I have no horses. Kinda bleh, but I seem to be quite ahead in tech:

So what would you do in my place? Try to lib steel? Or go for rifling?

@ SilverBow :
Spoiler :
Musket+cannon would be my choice. You should have rifles before anyone else can get Cuir's (to flank your cannons). That way you don't have to wait as long for your first war (city capture gold to fund teching).

@Silverbow
Spoiler :
WOW I thought that there was a 20 city WvO there until I realized that there was a Hannibani too. Wasn't going to play the map if that was the case.

@Zx:
Spoiler :
Yeah those same color guys are annoying, especially if nearby. I actually thought I border Willem for a while.

Hm, with 3 religions and Sistine I could even go culture (I never do that. I haven't won culture in normal BtS for eons).

Maaaaaaan, between the Napoleon Noble's Club and a wacky game as de Gaulle on another board, I'm disinclined to play as the French again.

But man. A double-gems/marble start from an Industrious leader with my favorite trait (Charismatic) on top of it? That is tempting.

EDIT: Opening the Monarch save says I'm playing as someone besides de Gaulle who I presume is also on the map? :undecide:

Oh my, this looks like a nice start. I will of course see what settling the marble would look like but most likely settle 1s to grab the other gem.

Whew. I guess I won't be the only one trying to see if settling on the marble will work out well.

^Well it would take something good for me to give up the gems in the capital, but it doesn't hurt to check at least.

Played on Immortal to 1000 AD so far:

Tech path went Ah>Min>Bw>Wrt>Myst>Med>Prst>Pot>Fish>Sail>Mc(Oracle)>Masnry>Traded for Iw-Alpha-Hunt-Med>Asth>Poly>Lit>Currency>Traded for Monarchy>Drama>Math>Bulb Philo>Music (GA + GA)>CoL>Trade for Calendar and Mono>CS>Bulb Paper>Compas>Trade Calendar-Mono>Bulb part of Edu>Bulb Liberalism(take Nationalism)>Traded for Fued-Machin-Eng>MT>GP

Initial build order went worker>warrior to 3 then another warrior>settler>settler. I stole a worker from Hanni and settled my first 2 cities (decent sites) to block myself off. Took Oracle>TGLH>Colossus>TGL>NE (another city got Parthenon). As soon as I had copper set up I made one axe followed by 3 sword and declared on Hanni again (before 1st Axe finished), taking his worker as it tried to hook up horses. Pillaged 2 cities to death and stole 2 more workers (4 total).

Then I started to fill in my cities while teching towards MT/Gun for a Curs war. Hanni actually declared on me around 680 AD or so which was fine because I was already preparring for war because I need his Horse city and Capital before Gunpowder was finished!

Anyways......the plan is to whip out Curs all the way to Communism which should come in the Mid 1200 AD range. I already have 1 GS for PP and another one coming for Chem and hopefully one more in time for SM (if that happens an early 1200 communism date). I'll be able to easily run over William and I'll turn his cities into whip machines as soon as possible to help me take over most of Victorias cities too. I plan to WS everything over and head up to AL ftw.

haha so many talks about the southern gems, but when I finally got to them right after pigs and gems they were jungled....

@silverbow this is offtopic, but i see your HUD and science bar etc. are modified... How did you do this/what mod did you use?

I am asking because

Spoiler :
I tried the start a couple of times and always fail to build either GL or oracle. GL went in one game at 1520, oracle not much later....

I started with AH-->Mining-->BW-->Fishing-->Sailing-->Myst-->Masonary, then Meditation and PH...

Building order was worker, warrior until size 3, then a settler. I dont see how I could have started earlier on the wonders without losing the northern spot to Hannibal.
Is it possible to build them all without worker steal from Hanni?
